  1. When I was hired about 2 yrs ago, they hired 11 new grads to the heme/onc/bmt floor. Extensive training, classes, and long precepting was done. When on our own, the senior staff still offered help, and continue to at this time.
  2. On my heme/onc/but floor, we are 3-4:1 for day shift...usually 3. And nights we are 5-6:1. If some has an acute problem, then all nurse hands on deck with some amazing teamwork!
  3. I get these conversations regularly. The response is usually... " how do you do it?" Or "I can't believe that's what you chose!" My response is that it is bittersweet everyday. I find it an honor to be part of my patients and families lives during such an emotional and vulnerable part of their lives. They are so thankful for everything that we do and offer for them. I learn something new from each and every patient and I love them all. Of course this is a hard thing when we lose them, but I am honored that they allow us to be there for them during his time. This also makes me appreciate every minute of everyday that I have on earth with my husband, family and friends.
