  1. I can't private message either... YET! I guess you need to have at least 15 post and I only have 14. So this will be the 15th! This is pretty much a totally unnecessary post haha, but now I can pm you my email!
  2. Here's my stats- overall GPA: 3.90 prereq GPA: 4.0 TEAS score: 94.0% no work experience
  3. I've been trying to answer that question for a while now. Long Beach has a very high NCLEX pass rate; it was about 96% last year. San Diego's pass rate was about 88% last year. Long Beach makes their pool stats available to everyone, but I've never been able to find San Diego's. According to the CSULB Nursing website, these were the stats for the student admitted for Fall 2014: Fall 2014 * * * 604 Generic applicants (70 admitted, 171 ineligible, 433 qualified alternates) Rating Average - 9.39 (range 9.92- 9.35) Statistics for 70 selected students: Average Science GPA - 3.90 (range 3.25- 4.0) Average GE GPA - 3.94 (range 3.53 - 4.0) Average TEAS test score - 89.85% (range 80.7.0% - 97.30%) Average Math score - 93.73% (range 83.30% - 100%) Those are some pretty impressive stats! As for the programs themselves, I think they are both good and that we really couldn't go wrong either way. At this point, it really is about what it is that you're looking for. Long Beach: it has the two-year choice (but that means no summer vacations!), a lot of students get hired at LBMMC right after graduation (the contract is for two years and there is some tuition repayment), the NCLEX pass rate is high, there is a built-in preceptorship in the last semester, so a lot of good things! I am little concerned about how students are divided into basic and trimester... I think that you request the program that you want, but there is a chance that you won't be placed in it. San Diego: the program is five semesters, there is no built-in preceptorship but (from what SuperMurse and Coriander have said) there are opportunities in the last couple semesters, all nursing student are required to fulfill a study abroad program (it can be over spring break, there are lots of options, but it is an additional fee, check it out: Guidelines for Nursing Students), there seem to be a good amount of new grad residency programs at hospitals in the surrounding area -Sharp, UC San Diego, and Scripps all have them. That is the information that I have collected in the past few weeks. I'd love for anyone with more information to add!
  4. Just go the email!! I'm in! Good luck to everyone!
  5. I just called! Current SDSU students are getting their emails tonight and transfer students tomorrow morning! I know for that the emails tomorrow morning for transfer students will only be acceptances and then the waitlist and rejection emails will be later... not sure when. I don't know for sure if that's true for current students too, and rejections will be later. I didn't ask. Good luck to everyone! I am SO nervous! San Diego is one of the only programs that I applied that I don't know the pool stats and averages for previous accepted students.
  6. When did you hear from SDSU? Did you get an email?
  7. Hi Coriander! I'm not sure if you can help me with this questions, but I'll give it a go! To be honest, I'm not totally sure what the differences are between internships, preceptorships, and externships (I think those are paid?). When I try to collect a bit of information from hospital websites all three of those terms are thrown around. You said that a lot of your classmates did preceptorships... is there a particular semester that a nursing student becomes eligible to even have a preceptorship? Is it possible to do more than one? Maybe over the summer and during the semesters as well. Any light that you can shed on this would be great. I'm just waiting to hear from SDSU so that I can decide between them and CSULB. Long Beach has a built in preceptorship in the last semester; I have no idea if people take on extra internships, or something to that effect, as well.
  8. I'm in the same boat as you Beccaz07! SDSU is my top choice, but they're not making it easy with all this waiting! Hopefully I'll find out in time to let CSULB know either way by May 1st. Do you prefer one program over the other? I'm from northern California and don't know a whole lot about the programs. From what I've researched, I think I'd like SDSU more than CSULB and I would rather be in San Diego than Long Beach. I'd love to know what you think about the programs.
  9. Hi SuperMurse, thanks so much for all this information! I was curious about what you said regarding preceptorships. Is it correct that the program does not have a final semester preceptorship built in? You say that there will be plenty of preceptorship opportunities though. Does that mean that we'd be taking on the preceptorship in addition to the lectures and clinicals in the program itself? Also, do the preceptorships offer a lot of options when it comes to the type of department? On a side note, I'm curious how many students are in a cohort at SDSU. I could not seem to find that info anywhere on the website! Thank you!
  10. Hello to any and all that may have some helpful information for any of the schools listed above! I have applied to SFSU, SJSU, SDSU, CSULB, SSU, and CSUS for the Fall 2014 semester. As of yet, I have only heard back from one school (an acceptance to Long Beach!), but I won't be hearing from the others until late April or even early May. This gives me a very small window to make my decision, since most of the schools require that I submit my intent to enroll by May 1. So, in order to avoid paying the fee to practically all the schools on May 1 so that I have some time to figure things out, I'm trying to collect as much information right now. I think I have a really good chance of getting into every program I applied to, which makes the choice even more daunting since all of these programs are great! Just for reference, my overall college GPA is 3.9, my nursing prerequisites GPA is 4.0, and I scored a 94.0% on my TEAS. Now, I would greatly appreciate any information from current or past students at any of the above programs. Particularly, I'm interested in clinical sites, student-professor relationships, preceptorship options, overall quality of the program (was it organized? evidence-based? focused on student success?), exam formats (NCLEX-type questions?), and if there are any contract or internship opportunities with hospitals after graduation. And if you have graduated recently, were you successful in finding a job in the area? Sorry for the length, but thank you in advanced for the information! Whatever advice you have to offer is greatly appreciated. This is probably the most exciting and simultaneously nerve-racking decision I've ever faced!
  11. Ah thanks! Just the prereq GPA? Then my impaction score would be 8.09 Also, does anyone know when we should be hearing about acceptance?
  12. I read the little note on the application incorrectly! It was 5 days for them to receive the application, not 5 days for them to send notification. I freaked a few of you out... sorry about that :) @fancyeyes I'll definitely email them too, just for my own peace of mind! Also, I'm not sure what my impaction score is... I can't seem to find the page that explains how to do it. You divide your TEAS score by a certain number and then add your gpa, right? I don't know my impaction score but my stats are: GPA: 3.9 TEAS: 94.0
  13. I'm sure both of our applications got there! I bet they are just behind on sending us notification. It seems pretty unlikely that both of our applications didn't make it! I sent mine with plenty of time to get there too. I'm calling tomorrow just to check in, I'll post what they tell me.
  14. Has anyone gotten notification from the school that they received your application? I think remember that the application said you should be notified within 5 days of them receiving it... I didn't send the application certified mail, bad decision! I sent my application about a week before the deadline and I haven't received any notification. I hope they're just behind on the emails! Please let me know if you've gotten notification or if you're in the same boat as me
  15. Hi all! I am brand new to this website after stumbling upon it when trying to ascertain some information about my newly chosen career path. I am currently taking my BSN prerequisites at a Junior College and it's getting to that point where I need to decided where I would like to apply. I live in California and I am definitely interested in staying here. I know of just about every BSN program in the state, but there is very little information when it comes to which programs are the best! I know that where your diploma is from isn't the only factor in getting hired, but I truly believe that some schools must have better reputations than others, yet there is absolutely NO information on it. For example, I have heard from multiple different sources that Dominican University in Northern California has a reputation for not being the most rigorous program and the surrounding hospitals know it and some Dominican grads have a harder time finding a job right away... I have gravitate towards the programs that seem like they are the most difficult to get into, like San Francisco State and CSU Long Beach, because I want to work hard and get into the absolute best program I can manage! I'm just curious if anyone has some info on how much weight hospitals put into where you get your diploma (especially in CA) Thank you!
