I was hired there recently and im not an NYU grad. I also know a friend who was hired there who wasn't an NYU grad. It is possible to get in there if you graduated somewhere else. The biggest thing that i think helped me was putting my GPA on my resume (only if u have 3.5+).

The website says they ship out the top 2 weeks prior to clinical but that's always pretty much a lie. If you order it right now you should receive it sometime in July (prob during the middle). The earlier you do it the earlier you'll receive it (despite what their policy says).

StarvingRtist, If you're completely set on going the accelerated route then i would keep pressing the issue. They never get applications with 20+ students having a 4.0 GPA and a 92+ score on the hesi. Call their bluff and tell them you know people who got in with less than that. If you have to go beyond them then do so. Speak to the dean of students affair and tell them that your application wasn't given a proper review. Don't let the matter drop if this is really the route you want to go.

Giselle, You were probably wait listed. More than likely if they don't hear back from the people who got accepted in the "first wave," then they start going down the list and start accepting the people who were wait listed until all the seats are filled up. I know a girl who heard back 1.5-2weeks after everyone else did and it's because of this exact reason. Best of luck.

Congrats on everyone getting in! If you guys need help picking up a good schedule for next semester just let me know! (Through PM). Many of these instructors lack online reviews so selecting a good one may be troublesome without knowing someone in the program.

StarvingRtist, I completely get what you're trying to say but just know that there is a specific mindset you have to have for nursing that revolves around having good judgement even when you don't know the material. This will happen a lot once you get in. You'll literally be faced with questions on subjects you never touched on in class or the textbook. And as a critical thinker, you're supposed to be able to pick the "best" nursing action. It sucks but NCLEX style questions are what make nursing classes hard. There's a book that i reallyyy recommend you get your first semester of nursing. It's called: Fundamentals of Nursing- Content Review Plus Practice Questions. It really puts you into that nursing mentality and builds on your critical thinking skills.

StarvingRtist, When i said "I completely guessed" I actually meant i completely guessed, lol. I never even read the questions for most of them. And to some extent you're completely right in feeling misinformed. Those questions are a lot like the nursing questions you get tested on when you enter nursing school. So, feeling cheated is natural (it's exactly how i felt). However, they still are a good indicator of how well you'll think as a nurse. A lot of those questions focus on having good judgement and obviously as a nurse this is a trait you need to have to succeed. I heard back from lehman last year on June 19th. Hopefully you guys do hear back from them before that. I know the waiting sucks. But good luck to everyone. I'm sure i'll see you all next semester.

Hey Destin293! :) nice to see you still active. Guys, the critical thinking part doesn't matter. I went headstrong knowing this last year and completely guessed on nearly all my answers. I got under 700. I still got in. All they care about is that you pass everything else with a 75. I got a 92 overall (97-98 on the anatomy portion) when i took it. You guys should be fine.

The physical and CPR cert need to be done sometime in august- if im not mistaking. So, you definitely have time for that. And yes, registration is done the same day you pick up your packet so try to look up the instructors/clinicals you may want for fall ahead of time. These are the classes you'll be taking if you're in the generic: NUR 300, 301, and 344. It's possible to also take HIN 269 in the fall, however, most people just take it during the winter or summer (I seriously recommend this). I'm actually taking it in a week. It's online during the winter and summer soo... :).

Glowinthdark, Sadly, that's the disadvantage of being in the accelerated program. The coursework + clinicals is VERY time consuming. So, many people post grad find it really hard to get a job without a "foot" in- not just in lehman but in nearly every accelerated program in ny. Having connections helps but unfortunately not many people do. In regards to leaving for the summer, try to speak to everyone and anyone you can. You want to be 100% sure you can leave and come back. Even if this means speaking to the chairperson directly.. and i recommend you do this real quick because after a certain day everyone stops showing up or they start showing up whenever. nursing2017, Aw, i remember being nervous that i "might" not get in but you just have to be confident that you will. Your grades are above the usual cutoff rate so you should have no problems. StarvingRtist, Your words cannot be "realer." It's not lehman if you don't get F****'d over at least once or twice, lol. You'll hate it and you'll love it. Also, since i'm in the generic program and not in the accelerated it's hard to say if you can actually volunteer. I doubt it though. Even as a generic you're pretty much risking it by volunteering or having a job. Nursing is hard. Getting in is actually the "easiest" part, staying in is the hardest. Just so you guys know, volunteering is cool and all but hospitals usually tend to have specific programs for nursing students. These are the programs you guys want to volunteer/intern at. They're the ones that allow you to build the "right" connections. Montefiore has one for nursing students who have completed their first year of nursing school. It's an 8-week summer paid program (i think they pay 20-23/hr) that follows a normal nursing schedule 12hrs/3days a week. This is just one of many programs you guys can apply to down the road.

Your information seems to be spot on. If you did the application accurately and handed it to them then you should be fine. It helps to make a copy of everything you have- just in case. A 4.0 gpa and a 92 on the hesi does basically guarantee you a spot. Good luck.

Jen, The cutoff tends to usually be 3.5. In the event that they don't have enough seats filled they may pick those with a 3.4 science gpa (I know of only one person this happened to- she was admitted late). Glowinthdark, Its hard to say if this is true since the person who handled all our issues dealing with registration/orientation retired earlier this year. So they have someone else in charge now (if im not mistaking). However, i would speak to a second counselor. August seems pretty late to register for classes. The only thing we had in august was our orientation. Also prior to getting in you have to do a lot of paperwork and stuff. If you're not CPR certified by the american heart association then you need to do that too. Travelings possible but traveling for a really long time isn't possible to do this summer. Also, where did she see these stats? lol. From what i hear the school doesn't help you find a job after you graduate at all. However, they do try to encourage you to do summer internships while in the program. The point of this is to basically network yourself so that you can maybe get a job where you interned at after you graduate.

Hey Jen! Sorry for the late reply. Finals week has kept me reallyyy busy. To answer your question, no. They tend to focus more on the science gpa than the overall one. A 3.6 cum gpa with a 3.7-3.8 science gpa is completely fine. Best of luck!

When you get the acceptance letter you'll be given a date so that you can come in and pick up your admission package. On that day you'll be given info outlining the courses you need to take your first semester. You get to pick your classes (by getting permission for them) the same day you pick up your package. The earlier you go the greater the chances of you getting the schedule you want. More than likely you'll have class/clinicals 4-5x a week your first semester. Also, after the first semester you don't have a say in any of the classes you pick- sadly everything will be picked out for you.

The retake opportunity isn't something new for this year alone. It was allowed last year too. Some people do freeze up during the exam and fail it, not because they lack the knowledge but because their nerves take over. Taking it again is fair to a large extent. Had you fail wouldn't you want the chance to retake it rather than wait one WHOLE year for the opportunity? In the end, GPA is what really gets you in- not so much the HESI. You can have a 99% hesi score and a 3.0 prereq GPA and still be rejected in a heartbeat.

You have some good stats. If you're able to maintain your gpa (or do better) you'll undoubtedly get in. Best of luck

Hey issyl11! If it makes you feel better i know a few people who got in with the same HESI score as you. :) Most people recommend having a HESI score of 85+ to be in the "safety" zone but to be honest I think they just want to see if you pass. What they REALLY focus on is the science gpa & a 3.8 is REALLY good (congrats!). I personally think you'll get in without a doubt.

Im not by any means necessary an advocate for hostos. However, in my school (Lehman College) I have seen students apply to their RN to BSN program and get in. Just something you should consider and potentially inquire about.

Lehman College actually takes in students from hostos into their RN to BSN program. I would check on this matter first before making the decision to transfer swiftly.

Don't be! you have to have confidence to succeed in life. Getting As in the spring is completely attainable. You just have to try hard and want it more than anything. A 3.67 science gpa with a passing score in the HESI would more than likely get you into the program. So, don't stress it too much! I definitely know people who got in with lower gpas (3.5-3.6). Of course every year is different and your year might me more competitive than mine. So, definitely stay on top of everything and try hard.

No, HIN 268 is not included in the science gpa. However, you do need a C (73+) or higher to pass it. Anything below that is failing.

You seem to have a pretty solid chance at getting in. The cutoff rate for this past year (2014) was somewhere between a 3.4 and 3.5 science gpa. If you can manage to stay above that range (3.5+ gpa) then you'll more than likely get in. Of course, the higher it is the better the chances. In regards to hesi, disregard any comments about it having microbiology and biology in it. That was not the case when i took it last year. I scored a 96 on the anatomy and physiology portion solely by studying a&p. Since you're just taking a&p 2 i would suggest scheduling an appointment to take the exam sometime in march. That way you're able to absorb as much info in class as possible before taking the exam. They do allow you to take a retake but i heard it was way harder than the first time. So basically if you fail the first time your chances of passing the second time are slimmer (however, it's still possible..some of my classmates did pass the second time). Also, when you study a&p don't scrutinize every little fine detail for the HESI. It's not an exam that goes too in-depth with things. Good luck though! i'm sure you'll do fine. P.S.
