Hi All! As far back as high school I always knew I wanted to be a travel nurse because I was lucky enough to have an aunt who was a traveling Rad Tech. I would spend summers with her all over the US and loved the thrill. Fast forward to now I am currently an Adult Nurse Practitioner working a very nice job in a major hospital in the Texas Medical Center. I was one of those BSNs who went right into my Masters program and I do not regret my decision one bit . I have always put my desire to travel on the back burner because I got comfy in the salary of my jobs, but lately I have been feeling like I can still live my dream of traveling, if only for a few years. I am 30 y/o single with no children, just a fur baby. So I just wanted an opinion from the fellow travelers. I actually haven't worked bedside in 4 years but I work in an acute care role as a hospitalist so my critical thinking is adequate and my skills will probably just need a little rust knocked off. so my questions are: 1. I would probably want to travel as a day med surg/ tele nurse, what salary am i potentially looking at traveling 11 months a year including bonuses and housing stipend? 2. Do you think it's reasonable that I feel ready to get back to bedside armed with my clinical knowledge even though I have been away from bedside for 4 years? Thanks in advance and happy holidays!!!

Thank You so much for this info! Thats a far cry from what I'm offered! When I spoke with the Medical Director he did mention that by their hospital rules a physician must round on all midlevels' patients, so I would be lightening the load for them instead of giving them the day off. I know when I worked inpatient care (in Houston also) I could see a patient, write a note and bill on my own without physical supervision but I guess hospital rules vary. I've done research on the NP salary in Austin and it's not that different either. Very valuable information. Thanks for giving me info to form my negotiations :)

Good Morning All, I just wanted an opinion on a contract I was offered by a hospitalist group in Austin TX. I'm an ANP with 2 years of acute care experience and I was looking for a per diem position. The director states that he mainly needs me for Saturday and Sundays with 15 follow up progress notes but he is only offering a $200/day per diem. My concern is that it will take me 5-6 hours to do follow ups on these patients which is roughly $33-40 an hour. At my previous position I saw 15 patients in 8 hours and collected a full salary Given that they do not have to pay health insurance, vacation, sick leave or anything else (besides malpractice) I think this is very low ball. What do you guys think? Thanx!

Good Afternoon all, I just wanted an opinion on a contract that I recieved for a per diem Nurse Practitioner position with a hospitalist company in Austin TX. I am an ANP with 2 years of Acute Care hospital experience. During our interview they stated that they needed someone for evenings 5p-10p and weekends. they offer a $200 per diem rate which includes 15 patient contacts. (I have an email out to them to define patient contacts- 15 lab checks vs 15 admissions) At my previous job I saw 15 patients in 8 hours and collected a full salary lol:yes:. Given that they will not provide medical insurance, vacation or holidays, I think this is very low ball. What do you think? Thanx!
