Accepatnce letter to NS with a catch?!
I'm at a University in California... but we didn't have a math exam at orientation... we did have a med-calc test on the first week and was expected to get 100%. You do get 3 tries though... it's just sad when you're dinged .25 points and then you have to retake it! But then you justify that by playing devils advocate... a simple med error could either get someone really sick or kill them. I would probably just brush up on some conversions and basic math skills if they're going to throw a "math test" at you... unless they called it a med-calc test then I'd probably throw in some basic drip problems too.

@ksfiles I wouldn't worry too much about the website... if I recall, they didn't update it until you were either rejected or accepted into the program. I could be wrong though.

Nursing student working on a project regarding nurses at the international level
Hi abhinay. Thanks for the offer. I tried sending you a private message on here but it says that you disabled that option. I was just wondering how you would like for me to contact you? I can email you if you prefer that? Just let me know. Thank you.

Project regarding nurses at the international level
Hi everyone, I'm a nursing student who is currently taking healthcare informatics this semester and we've been discussing how healthcare is like in the United States. For our upcoming project, we're supposed to discuss with either a nurse educator, registered nurse, certified nurse specialist, clinical nurse leader, healthcare informatics professional, or even a physician at the international level about healthcare in another country. I was just wondering if there was anyone here who has worked in healthcare in another country in the past or currently still working internationally in healthcare who wouldn't mind answering a few questions in regards to technology and healthcare. We can either exchange messages on here privately, we can do this through email, or we can do a telephone interview as well. No one but myself and my classmates will see your responses and your identity will remain anonymous at all times. Some of questions are like: what types of patients are you responsible for during your typical work day? How do you use technology in your profession? What are the pros and cons of using technology in your professional life? Does it take away from patient experience? The above are some of the questions that would be asked. It should take about 10-15 minutes to answer the questions. Once again, I can only interview individuals who have worked internationally or currently working internationally in healthcare and we can either do this through private messages on here, email, or telephone, whichever you prefer. It would be greatly appreciated if any of you are interested! Thank you.

I wasn't able to pick up so they left me a voicemail about my acceptance. My coworker also got accepted, however they didn't tell her that in the voicemail, they just told her to call them back. They also call with a 415 area code number.

@mailnursetobe, thanks for that information. One more question... was looking over the clinical dress requirements again and it said white leather shoes. I was wondering how strict they were on those since I don't have pure white leather shoes... I have Nike Free's running shoes and the material is more fabric-like than leather (not sure how familiar you are with the shoes) with some color on them, such as the swoosh mark is green. So I'm just wondering how strict they are on the "white leather shoe" requirement. Thanks again!

Seems like the link to the facebook was removed since it violated terms of the website. Again, try searching for it on facebook under "USF CNL Cohort 16" and if you can't find it, either make a post on here or PM me on here for the link.

@mailnursetobe thank you very much for all that information, you answered a lot of the questions I had. I was just wondering do we purchase our own white scrubs from somewhere else, or will the school be providing white scrubs for us to purchase? Thanks again!

To buy or to rent?
I'm about to start my nursing program and I was just wondering, is it better to purchase my textbooks or to rent them? Aside from it being cost effective to rent, I was wondering would purchasing it benefit me in anyway (aside from it sitting on my bookshelf, never to be looked at again), such as being useful for the NCLEX or future courses or will those textbooks be useless to me after the class is over? Just want to see what other people did and what their experience is, since it seems like I'm bleeding money left and right at the moment!!

What type of stethoscope should I purchase for school?
Thanks for the recommendations, I will definitely be looking into all the ones you suggested since school is only 1 month away! Also, thanks for tipping me off about putting my name on it!

What type of stethoscope should I purchase for school?
I'll be starting nursing school soon and I'm pretty unfamiliar with the stuff I need to buy or where to even begin. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what brand/type of stethoscope should I maybe purchase as a student (or even for the long run)? Are there places online that sell these equipment for cheaper that I should look into? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Okay, I didn't realize that you couldn't send personal messages on here unless you've posted X amount of posts. So for those of you who can't do that either, I created a temporary email that you can reach me at for the facebook group. [email protected] Or you can try finding it directly on FB.... not sure if it'll show up yet since the group size is so small at the moment. Search for "USF CNL Cohort 16"

Thanks for the tip @bboykenshin! I guess I'll create a group. If you have a facebook, you could personal message me on here with your email or name (however you want me to find you on facebook) if you don't want it displayed on here for the public to see.

I'm not sure if anyone would be interested or how many more accepted people will check the allnurses forums, but I was thinking about starting a facebook group for our cohort. Let me know if anyone else would be interested! Also, I hope the rest of you still waiting to hear back get some good news soon!

The letter is pretty small, it basically just says congratulations and that everything else is online for you to view (I'm assuming to save paper). We won't be able to pay to reserve our fees until a few more days. But yes, there's an all day orientation on May 15 (then a week later, school starts!!!). I'll just give you the website since you'll be receiving it soon anyway! University of San Francisco (USF) - Orientation It basically contains everything you will need to know/get done soon. Just a warning... it's a bit overwhelming at first glimpse after clicking through everything...

@aggiepack177: I have a B.A. in Psychology. My undergrad GPA was 3.3 and the pre-req's I took after were 3.9. I've interned/worked with students who have disabilities and volunteered on and off at hospitals for several years in different departments (UCSF and SF General).
