Hello, I'm currently enrolled in an on-campus NP program. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on my question. I would like to be able to take a class in the summer that is only offered at my school in the Fall and Winter. Does anyone know any on-campus (in Texas) or online schools that lets students enroll as "non-degree seeking" to be able to take Adv. Patho or Adv. Pharmocology that can be transferred?

Hi, has anyone been accepted into the Fall 2015 NP program at TWU? What program are you in? What hav you heard about the program. Are you going full or part time? I've been accepted to the Dallas campus. I have to plan my work schedule up to September in a couple weeks. I know orientation isn't until July, but does anyone know what courses we take the first semester and the days we attend classes? Are we suppose to register for classes now? I haven't received much information and was curious to see if anyone else knows.

The Versant Residency for THR is about 18 weeks. It has classes you attend during the first half. You have about 3 preceptors and they switch after each 6 weeks and/or new acuity level. You also have mentor meetings (helping build your career as a nurse) and discussion days (I can't remember what it is called but you get together to discuss how the versant program is or your concerns, good days, etc.). I'm glad I was able to do the residency. The bad thing is the 2 year contract (you have to complete 2 years or pay if you leave before your contract) if you feel the unit or specialty isn't a match for you.

I sometimes wonder how other hospitals or units are like and what they offer that my hospital or unit does/doesn't. I thought it would be good to start a forum for other RNs who may be thinking about looking for another job and want to get an idea about other units/hospitals before they apply. I will be applying for NP school in a few months. I am a NICU RN with 2 years of experience. I know I don't want to work as an NNP but I'm very torn on these programs: Pediatric NP, Acute Care NP, and Acute Care Pediatric NP. I want to be able to find a job when I'm finished with the program. I'm also not sure if I'd like working more in the Clincal setting or the Hospital setting. Anyone in these programs willing to over any advice or give your opinion. Here are the pros/cons/questions I have about each program. Any advice or info about these specialties would be greatly appreciated. Pediatric NP: Pros-M-F day shift job, weekends off, no holidays, no on call, better chance to find a job. Cons-Lower end on salary (or is this not true) Question: As a PNP can I only work in a clinic? Acute Care NP: Pros- Possible 3 12hr shifts, night shift, higher pay, I can see a mix of Pedi and Adults if I work in an ER setting. Cons- Weekends, holidays, on call Question: I was told ACNP aren't hired as much in the ER as a PA would be, is this true? Would it be hard to find a job if I wanted to work in the ER? Where else can I work as a ACNP? Acute Care Pediatric NP: Pros-( If I work in the ER) 3 12hr shifts/week, night shift, higher pay. Cons-Weekends, holidays, on call, hard time finding a job?, Question: As a ACPNP can I work in a clinic as well? Would I be limiting myself and have a hard time finding a job with this specialty?

Thanks for the advice. I asked because I have reached out to some managers and that's the way I got the 3 internship interviews I applied to. I just wasn't sure if there was a specific way of getting their information. Getting a residency/internship is difficult because it's so competitive and I was told by some people by reaching out to the managers that is how they got the position they are in.

How do I get contact information on who the nurse manager is for a unit at a hospital? If I call the hospital operator can they transfer me if I ask for nurse manager for "unit", do I call HR, or do I call that specific unit? Is it okay to call and do this?
