  1. Hi guys, I just came out of the test center at my CC, got a 81% on my teas. Thought I did .....well.....not advanced enough in my opinion. Should I retake it? The school I m applying to requires applicants have their teas score submitted before the 10th of Sep. so....retake it? Any thought? Thanks.
  2. Hi akulahawk, Thank you for your thoughtful input. I totally understand that I will be suspected for a long time even if I finished my BSN or other nursing programs. I am going to stick to nursing because this is my passion, and I really cannot stand the idea of not becoming a nurse in my future. Again, thank you so much for your advice.
  3. Hi Fireman767, Thanks for your input. This happened in March, 2013. I got 0 on that test and got an academic dishonesty record on my file. I passed this A&P1 class with a B.
  4. Yeah I know the saying of once a cheater, always a cheater. Thank you for your advice and everything. If you cannot believe the fact that my grandpa passed away and then I cheated on my test, then..,I don't know what to say. I know this record will follow me for the rest of my life. But nursing is what I want to do and I don't think one mistake would banned me from pursuing my passion in nursing. Again, thanks. I really appreciate your effort.
  5. Hi GrnTea, I happened during the March of 2013. Thank you for your input!
  6. Hi,thank you so your input. I cheated on a test and got caught. My grandpa passed away during the week I was preparing the test and it just ....well....I could not concentrate because of the sorrow. But my grades are good..do you think I have a shot in getting into nursing programs? They require an explanation of why you have this record and provide them with how you improved yourself.
  7. Hello there, I am wondering if any of you who are already in nursing program used to have academic dishonesty record?
  8. Hellllo there! I am applying for BSN programs now and I am wondering if you guys can give me some advice on my essay? Thank you so much! PLEASE be brutal and mean when you criticizing this essay because I need to IMPROVE!!!! Here it goes: I am the so called "middle-child" in my family born to be a little daredevil; I take risks from loudly singing alone in public and bungee jumping, to more complicated ones such as accomplish my passion of being a nurse against my family's expectation. Being raised in a family full of doctors can be intimidating. They expect me to be a doctor since I was only five. However, my passion has always been nursing. My grandmother who was a terrific ER nurse in China is my role model. I used to spend countless childhood hours in her hospital, watching her taking blood samples, learning how to read an urinary test results, and hoping around the nurses asking them to apply makeup on my face. I would comfort those patients who were my age when they got their flu shots and could not stop crying over the pain. During my childhood, my parents had a lot of issues with one another and when they were arguing, I went to my grandmother's hospital, hanging out with the nurses and patients then I would feel much better. It was after my eighteenth birthday when my parents asked me what major do I want to pursue. "Nursing". I answered without doubt and I tried my best to ignore the disappointment in my parents' eyes. Few months later, I moved to the United States and start my study at XXX college. While taking classes at XXX College, I began volunteering at three different places: Figure Drawing Club at my college, Tacoma Art Museum, and St. Joseph Medical Center. Volunteering at the hospital is my favorite. I am an manager's assistant at the Critical Care Department. I help patients with their meals and keep them entertained; I help nurses with files and set up equipment in the units; I organize the equipment room and recycle medical wastes. I feel excited when nurses discuss the medical procedures. I am amazed by the way nurses care for their patients. My supervisor, ******, introduced me to many great nurses at our units and I admire them with all my heart. I felt the warmth those nurses bring in the cold and sorrow hospital. I felt close with them and I want to be one of them. After two months of volunteering, my determination of being a nurse has never been stronger and I could not stand the idea of not becoming one. I desire to be a nurse at Critical Care Department because I enjoy working with different people and I do not prefer a specific gender or age frame in my patients. I am looking forward to doing something worthwhile in nursing and helpful to society. Thinking like an adult and acting like one, I choose to risk not fulfilling my family's dream of me being a doctor. Instead, I am going to be accomplish my passion of becoming an outstanding nurse.
  9. Hi there, I just want to know what's my chances of getting into a BSN program.. Well, I have a GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0, and I have a W grade on Psychology 200 but I took it again and got a A-; I volunteer at a hospital as an assistant in Critical Care Department from March to present and I am still volunteering; I volunteered at an art museum as a visitor specialist for about half a year and 4 hours per week; I volunteered as a treasurer at my community college's Figure Drawing Club for about a year; I am an international student who have a F1 student visa; I have recommendation letters from my adviser and my professors. I have an academic dishonesty record on my file when I was taking a&p1. I have a toefl score of 101 out of 120 and I am going to retake it this july. Now I am done with all my pre-reqs and now I am applying for BSN programs. Am I competitive or I may have to wait or...I will have to think about another major instead of nursing? Thank you guys..I am kind of lost right now and hoping you guys can give me some advise.
  10. Your post has been SO helpful to me and not I decided to go ahead and re write the whole thing! I have a different approach to the essay and I think this time, it would be so much better! I really like the idea that you mentioned of writing about how nurses have the edge to work with people from totally different backgrounds and treat people equally! Thank you hi616!
  11. Thank you so much for bearing the length of the essay! :)
  12. Thank you! I know the record looks bad but I am thinking of getting a supporting letter from this instructor saying I have been a good student who just made a mistake. Hopefully the admission won't be picky on me too much...

  14. Online classes are nice but they are really picky about people who cannot control themselves and forget deadlines often... Good luck!
  15. Hello there! Thank you all for doing this and I am really appreciate the effort! I am applying for a BSN program and the nursing essay's topic is Describe a risk that you took and describe how it affect you. Here it goes: I am the so called "middle-child" in my family born to be a little daredevil; I love to take risks despite the fact that I got bruised and hurt many times. Risks can be taken from skate-boarding, bungee jumping and loudly singing alone in public, to more complicated risks such as moving to another country and dumping my old childhood dream and replace it with my latest passion. The most risky one that I have been taking is becoming an outstanding nurse instead of becoming a painter. My family wants me to be a doctor or at least in medical field for nearly two decades. To be honest, I never thought of becoming a medical worker and when I decided I want to pursue my studies and career in the United States when I was 18 years old, I put down nursing as my major just to get my family off my back. Meanwhile, I secretly wanted to change it to an art major when I got here. However, something changed my mind greatly about being a nurse and now I cannot stand the idea of not becoming one. While taking classes at Tacoma Community College, I began volunteering at three different places: Figure Drawing Club at my college, Tacoma Art Museum, and St. Joseph Medical Center. Oddly, volunteering at the hospital is my favorite. I am an assistant at the critical care department. I helped patients to get their dinner, nurses to get a cup of iced water, and more importantly, I got to see what is like to be a nurse. I got chilled by listening nurses walking and discussing the medical procedures that those patients are having. I am amazed by the way nurses care for their patients. My supervisor, ******, introduced me to many nurses and medical workers at our units. After two months of volunteering, one night, I closed my eyes and laid on my bed. I start dreaming of myself as a nurse, working with other nurses and patients and I felt extremely happy: Then it hit me, I desire to be a nurse!I want to be a nurse at critical care department because I enjoy working with different people and I do not have a specific gender or age frame that I prefer in my patients. I desire to be one of the outstanding nurses that I know of at my hospital! I used to think that when I grow up and finally become a painter, I would be satisfied even if I have no job, no money to pay for rent, and I live under someone else's basement. However, as I grow, my mind and my personal values grow too. I no longer put myself first. I am looking forward to doing something worthwhile in nursing and helpful to society. Thinking like an adult and acting like one, I choose to risk not fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a poor artist. Instead, I am going to be so much more as a nurse.
