Contradicting Instructor Information?
Hello! I just had an odd experience at lab today- now, I understand in nursing school, instructors usually have their own way of doing things that differ from teacher to teacher. However, we witnessed two instructors today having a debate in front of us with no apparent compromise on the question. (This happened in class, while we were divided up into our clinical groups, reviewing medication administration). One student asked a instructor passing by our group about her handout and administering 1ml into the deltoid vs 2ml, which was what the book said. That instructor sternly said that only 1ml should EVER go into the deltoid, while OUR instructor defended that the book claims 2ml can be given in the deltoid. The other instructor claims it must have been a misprint in the book- OUR instructor refuted that at her clinical site, they do give 2ml injections into the deltoid. It was confusing, because we weren't sure who to follow. We were told to just follow 1ml for the exam- but I'm curious now. In the event something like this happens again, how are we the students, supposed to address this? Do 1ml with one instructor and 2ml with another? I understand each facility has their own protocol.. but I feel as though this should be something standardized?

How were you able to decide you could handle an ACCEL nursing program?
I would like to think that I'll survive because I've been working in a Hospital (PCA Float and ER Tech) for 2 years. I've made it up to half way through my junior year in a traditional program, but failed out because I spread myself to thin over things that weren't related to nursing. How long did you have to study every night, ajmclean?

How were you able to decide you could handle an ACCEL nursing program?
Wow thats impressive! How well did you do in those prerequisites that you took? I definitely could not have been able to take A+P I + II, Chemistry, Microbiology or Statistics all at the same time!

How were you able to decide you could handle an ACCEL nursing program?
Hello! I presently have a BS in Public Health, graduated with a 3.25GPA, and am currently preparing to decide whether or not to attend an Accelerated BSN, or an Associates Program. I have been accepted to both for this upcoming fall, (I understand I need to make a decision soon), and have reserved seats for both programs. I am currently taking a summer course, General Chemistry II, for MCPHS (my acceptance is contingent upon the completion of this course). However, I am not doing very well in the course so far. It's a one month course, so everything is condensed. This is the first, and only, hard science class, I have not done well in. My other prerequisites have been A's and B's. I have taken a condensed summer course (statistics) and gotten an A before. I understand doing well in one prerequisite doesn't guarantee success in another. However, getting on to the question: For those that have picked and completed an ABSN program, what led you to believe you could handle it? Have you always been a strong student that picked up information quickly? (And for anyone who has recently graduated MCPHS or Curry, can you offer your experiences?) I understand I'm at an advantage because I don't have kids or a full-time job, I would be supported by my own parents.. I just would like a little bit more information. Of course I understand it will be stressful, but would you mind sharing more details? ( Ex. How many chapters did you need to read a night? How many hours a day of studying? Exams a week? ) I know an Associates and then an RN-BSN program is longer, but I believe it would be less intense. I have a lot of people who support me and are strongly convinced I could handle an ACCEL nursing program. Only a few have recommended the Associates (one is a doctor and a nurse, they both believe ASN programs produce better nurses). I'm also hoping to see if anyone who didn't do well in one prerequisite went on to become a successful nurse. Specifically, accelerated programs. I know the decision is ultimately what I believe is best, but I feel as though I need more information before I can decide. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Curry College ACCEL Program 2016
I got wait listed I was accepted to MCPHS 2015 Fall start and Massasoit's ASN 2015 Fall start. Does anyone have any advice on what led them to do an accelerated program?

Got my dream job as a new grad !!
Wow really!? That gave me a lot of inspiration! I hope your journey is everything you could have wished for! :))) It's so nice to see people reaching their dreams.

ati practice teas v compared to actual test
I just took my TEAS exam today. I scored an 81% reading. I was frustrated because I had scored SO much better on the practice exams (85% reading, then 92% in reading) All I honestly needed was a 75, but after reading all these and putting the work in, I somehow scored lower on the actual test. I used the ATI practice assessments, free online test questions, and the manual (mostly for the math and science). It was only the reading portion that we took, but I was under the impression we took the whole test and they only counted the reading portion. My surprise when I learned it was just the reading we would be taking. :)

Curry College ACCEL Program 2016
I actually received a packet from them detailing what the program was like and when their deadline was. But I'm skeptical if it's updated... it says the program costs about 35,000, yet the past threads i've read are saying it's near 38,000 to 40,000. So I wouldn't want to completely trust the deadline outlined in the packet. I haven't sent in my application just yet, I want to get a hold of someone in the department and talk to them first. I just hope that I'll be accepted, given I have failed out before. If I don't get accepted, then my backup plan is to go to a community college, receive my associates, and then do a RN-BSN program, hopefully a 1 year program. I'm thinking of applying to those schools as well, but Massasoit Community College and Curry College are the closest to me. Massasoit is a 2 minute drive down the street from me, and Curry is about a 20 minute commute. Are you going to the February information session?

How to Prepare for Nursing School 2nd Attempt
I actually did spectacular in medsurg. I received scores of "Excellent", and even found an uncharted grade 4 heart murmur. This was noted in my evaluation, and my instructor even pulled me aside to say how proud she was of me. I never had a problem with med/surg.

How to Prepare for Nursing School 2nd Attempt
Hello! I am planning on applying to nursing schools again for my second time. I failed in my Junior year in my maternity rotation after being told that I could not critically think, and that I essentially could not put the pieces together on my care plan. However, I was told that my data collection, from every instructor I have ever had, is very good. I want to utilize my strength, and work with fact that this is a strong point of mine. Are there books or programs where I can practice case studies or care plans that have gotten good reviews? I have ATI, but I think I need something more intensive that will force me to write out my reasoning for an intervention or diagnosis. Any thoughts? * I am planning on shadowing a maternity nurse this summer or fall, and learn from her nursing diagnosis or her own care plans.

How Should I Address My Failure in my Personal Statement?
I realized I did have a lot of extracurriculars at the time (being an RA, being in the Honors program, having a job, taking extra classes..) I was trying too hard to be wonder woman. I understand that might have attributed to my failure. Yet I am baffled about how my failure unfolded, because I had done very well in my previous rotation- with all of those same stressors. Perhaps they had finally gotten to me during my second rotation. I did not want to admit that maybe I was stressed, although at the time I was convinced I wasn't. My plan for the future, whether I am accepted to a Accelerated program or an Associates program, is to do nothing but strictly nursing, and have no other distractions.

How Should I Address My Failure in my Personal Statement?
Hi there! I am a senior in Public Health (Used to be in Nursing until I failed out), and I am trying again to become a nurse. **If you are here to tell me not to bother, to think of a different career path, or anything to essentially divert my passion from Nursing, you may kindly leave. I WILL become a nurse, and I have no time for people who will tell me otherwise.** I am planning on applying to Associates RN programs, as well as Accelerated BS to BSN programs. I am looking at Massasoit Community College, Curry College, Simons, MGH, and possibly others. I am focusing on writing my personal statement for Massasoit first, as their deadline is fast approaching. How do I address the fact that I failed out of a 4 year program in my junior year? (I failed the clinical portion, maternity. My grades were above passing, around 85. I was told I could not put the pieces together, could not critically think, had no independent thought.. mostly through my care plans. Despite this, I received scores of "Excellent" on my previous Medsurg rotation, and even found an uncharted heart murmur. I have other past threads you may read about regarding this.) I understand they will receive my college transcripts- I want to be able to explain why there are past nursing classes on there in the event they see them.

Curry College ACCEL Program 2016
Hey everyone! I am thinking of applying to Curry College's ACCEL program starting next January 2016 :) I am very anxious, but this might be the best option for me. To be honest, I am a senior in Public Health who failed out Junior year of a previous program. I have all the prereqs done, but has anyone else heard of a student who failed a 4 year college who made it into an ACCEL program? (If you wish to know why you can read some of my old posts- I did not fail for academic reasons, it was an awful situation. In addition, I took an extra honors class, my parents moved to Florida, and I was an RA at the time- so I definitely overwhelmed myself.) I made a 3.88 this semester, and my overall GPA is a 3.15. My plan if I do choose this school is to work only once or twice a month, to keep my name on the payroll basically, and just focus on school. Nothing else. No other classes, responsibilities, except for maintaining my relationship with my boyfriend. If there are ANY Alumni out there who would be so kind as to offer an insight into the program, please share! This is kind of my leap of faith. Anyone else planning on applying for next year is welcome to chat here as well!

Curry College ACCEL Class of 2015
Hello everyone! Im thinking of applying to Curry college's accelerated program this year for next years cohort. Can you guys tell me how everything in the program is going so far? what do you think helped you to get accepted? I have a copy of the schedule for each term, and the only one that really looks awful is summer, where you go to clinical three times a week. If this has changed, can someone just briefly tell me their schedule for this semester? (And any other semester if they know it?) Thank you all so much!

Failed nursing school but didn't give up!
Thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I have been crying and beating myself up for almost a year ever since my instructor failed me. She told me I couldn't critically think, I had no independent thought, that I made my patients uncomfortable and not trusting of me and that I was robotic in my assessments and interactions with the patients... She completely destroyed me. I was offered a job at an ICU in the hospital I work at, by a nursing staff who wasn't aware that I failed out but was under the assumption I was a senior and would be graduating soon. I was flattered, but still terribly upset. The thought of going back is daunting, but I know Im young (21) and I have so much time. I'm extremely sad, but there is hope from reading your post. Thank you
