One thing we have noticed with these pumps is that they can tidal a babies blood pressure. We are sure that given constancy in most other things, this tidaling is pump related. We place our inotropes exclusively on the syringe pumps and keep all the syringe pumps separate from non syringe pumps to avoid this tidaling effect. Given the screw mechanism is supposed to be constant and non pulsatile, we find the syringe pump modules pulsatile as well. There has to be a better way. Or pump out there.

Either really. I swear they will kill someone. If they don't want to flow they won't. The other day I had a "Check IV Tubing" error on my citrate for dialysis. Reset wouldn't work. Changing the tubing wouldn't work. I ended up changing the tubing twice, and the module twice before my whole dialysis clotted off in the interim. If it had been vital pressors it could have been catastrophic. And I swear as I watch his blood pressure tidal up and down, that its pump related. As he does have his norepi and vasopressin on the Alaris. We never had these issues with the AVI's. We have had lists of errors with these things and managment keeps saying there is nothing wrong with them.

Ya but even the original court documents state that Mary Shindler testified that she was present when Terri uttered those words with the rest of the Shiavo's, the question since has not been whether she said that or not, but how much importance that statement has when parents want something other than those wishes.

One last thing, the nurse that claimed Michael said those things and testified that Terri had held conversations with her was found to be lying by the lower courts. Michael was almost given a restraining order because of how adamant and particular about the care she recieved. She has never had a pressure sore under his watchful eye. But still this "nurse" is part of the dog and pony show going on around the issue.

She had last rites performed when they took the tube out last week and will have them again when death is imminent performed by the hospice priest. Also the money that the Shiavos' won through the malpractice suit, went into a trust to pay for Terri's medical needs. Lawyer for Michael says it ran out three years ago and she is now a recipient of Medicare/Medicaid. Michael stands to gain nothing financially at this point. Maybe we should turn this around and say her rights and wishes were violated when they put the tube in in the first place.

Has anyone had any trouble with these pumps. We keep having Channel Error and air in line problems. Just shutting down for no reason with inotropes or dialysis causing swings in blood pressure. The pumps just shut down and are completely unreliable although described as being "safer" with the Guardrails software.
