You should send your application NOW if you live in CA! They can process everything and then they are just waiting on the things from your school. I graduated In june 2013. I sent my application in February 2013. I got my ATT 5 days after i graduated in June once my school processed my grades and all that. If you wait until you graduate then you have to wait for them to process everything.

@Ruby_rocks CONGRATS!!!!!! I am so excited for you!!!!!! Did they say when we will be hearing anything else back? I have been checking this thread and my messages all day to see if you heard back!!

I have not volunteered in NICU. At this point I have been offered a position on another specialty unit. My dream is NICU so I will apply like crazy again for NICU once I get experience. I am so sad not to start in my dream job, but I know this is not the end all for my path to NICU. I am in contact with a NICU director so once I have experience elsewhere I hope to be able to start the NICU path. Thank you all for your responses.

So many other threads have so many replies. Good luck! I have my fingers crossed for you!! Are you hoping for any unit or just wherever?

I wouldn't have ever thought about that. I am eager to learn little tricks to keep organized. Transitioning from a nursing student role to a new grad will be interesting, but it is the time and I really look forward to it!

Hello Everyone! I am a new grad RN. I just accepted an offer on an oncology/respiratory floor. I am pretty nervous simply because this is real. I am not a nursing student who can go back to my instructor or the nurse. I am going to be the nurse!!!! Anyways, after accepting the position I was really excited and told a few friends from my class and I was a little shocked by the reaction and honestly became a little freaked out! She told me not to have kids because of the exposure. This really concerned me simply because I am a young nurse that hasn't started a family yet. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank you! They called me this afternoon (thursday). I will be on Respiratory/Oncology. I was open to any shift so that didn't matter. I actually preferred to get nights simply for the differential, but I didn't express a preference. Thanks! I have been on the hunt since June!!! I was giving up!!

I agree about getting a foot in the door. My only concern is a 2 year commitment for something I do not have a passion for. Any suggestions on taking a position other than acute care? Such as Peds rehab? Or dialysis? Anything else?

I think I was misunderstood...I have a reason for nicu. My reason is not because I love babies lol. How do you know loma Linda is not hiring next cohort for nicu?

Thank you everyone! I graduated from RCC. I followed up after my interview. I so not have any previous healthcare experience other than volunteering on a mother-infant floor. I do have nrp and pals. I will graduate with my BSN in May 2015, even though my courses will be completed in March 2015. I do have clear reasons drawing me to nicu other than oh I just love babies. I am really trying to stay positive. I can't imagine taking a position on any other unit!

Ellie everyone. I am a new grad (June 2013) ADN. I am currently enrolled in an RN-BSN program. I have been applying like crazy for all RN positions since graduating from NICU to Med Surg. In the hundreds of applications I have now interviewed twice. First for a new grad residency in NICU. I didn't get it and in all honesty I am still heart broken over it! This week I interviewed for a Med Surg position. It seemed pretty promising, but my heart really isn't in it. I truly dread the thought of talking a position in med surg especially with a 2 year commitment. NICU has been my driving force. It's the reason I went into nursing. I am willing to relocate (currently in SoCal). Any advise would be more than appreciated!! I really want to get into NICU!

Yeah, I heard the same thing from someone that works there. I didn't have any clinical rotations at Hemet or Menifee. Where did you go to school? From the last cohorts thread people received calls a week after the first calls went out. So you never know!! Have you applied elsewhere?
