  1. Depends on where you work! My old job I worked 7am-3:30pm M-F. Then switched to 9am-5:30pm M-F. On call on 2 weekdays a months 5:30pm-7am. On call 1 weekend every other month Friday 3:30pm-Monday 7am. Pretty amazing hours for the OR. However we were not a trauma OR,not open 24 hours. I moved and my new job (trauma OR) I work 11a-11p 3x week Rotating days. On call 3pm-11pm one weekday every week. And one weekend day a month. Meh, OR is a tough schedule with all the call. And trust me, you get called probably 75% of the time if not more
  2. I agree with whats already been said. Document EVERYTHING. Put in an incident report. Go up your chain of command. There are studies that show the more hostile an OR environment is the greater risk to patient safety
  3. Hi Surfandnurse, I just moved to AK from out of state to work for Providence. They are offering some great incentives if you are planning on sticking around Alaska for a while. $10,000 signing bonus plus relocation assistance and great hourly pay. I personally could never work in the bush because of the remote location and my husbands job is in the city. Anyway, feel free to message me with any questions. I don't know anything about travel nursing but I know that both Providence and Alaska Regional are hiring like crazy.
  4. It won't let me link but if you have facebook we have a group there. Search: UTHSC Houston SON Summer Class of 2014 and it will come up. There is already tons of info on there.
  5. How much is it for contract parking in the garage? Is it yearly? Monthly?
  6. I'm so happy you posted this as I was about to do the same. I start my 1st semester of nursing classes/clinicals on May 20th! My baby (#2) will be 7 months old then. I nursed my 1st son til 15 months and I'd like to at least make it to a year with this one. I've never pumped before however. I don't even know who to talk about the subject? Or if there is any where at school for me to pump other than my car. Our schedule looks like we have lectures in the mornings that last three hours. Break and then labs for another 3-4 hours. Yikes. Our clinicals (1 day per week) are from 6:30-3:30. That looks to be the real challenge. My plan is to pump every 3 hours. I will nurse before I leave in the morning - husband drops him off at daycare. Then in the car before I go in to class, after class, and then at home of course nurse nurse nurse. I also dream feed at night and pump just to keep my supply up. Drink lots and lots of water and make sure you are eating enough. I've dropped so much weight just trying to make enough milk to keep up with my chunker & and pumping extra. I'll keep you updated on how things go. I guess I will ask some one at orientation where and if they allow breaks to pump. I wish I had waited and got in to the fall semester but things happen they way they happen. Kudos to you for having the drive to breast feed. It is not easy and so many mamas throw in the towel when the going gets tough. ( nothing wrong with that either! you gotta do what you gotta do! - the thing I've learned after two kids. :) )
  7. Thank you oceanise and Jessbird!
  8. Oceanise - How's your first semester going? I'm having daily panic attacks about starting school in May. I have two young kids so I cannot study at when I get home in the evenings. Everything must be done when I don't have class. You think it's possible to have enough study time during the days? Time management is vital to me!
  9. I have a W from stats - I first tried to take it 5 years ago at HCC while working full time. I took it again last year from another university and got an A. I got in so I guess a W is fine!
  10. I agree with what everyone else has said! In the math know all your unit conversions from memory - there will be questions on that. A&P - I went through all my old labs and just skimmed to refresh my memory. That really helped.
