Medic/RN2B

Highly doubt without any special certs. Pretty sure they have EMS certs. Unless they are just ambulance drivers or work on special ambulances like not real EMS ambulance such peds transport etc

RN's cant work in EMS unless you have an EMS cert. That is nation wide. They are probably dual certed or licensed. Also OP. Just so you know. EMS doesnt pay very good. And burn out rates are VERY high. You usually work 24 hour shifts or if you are lucky 12 hour shifts...lift lots of heavy patients...waaaaay more than you would ever do in nursing. EMT basic. You are gonna make (depending on where you work and states) $9-$11 bucks an hour. Yea that low. Unless you get land a sweet job with a company that pays great which there aint hardly any of em out there anymore....Paramedics make about $20 an hour. Depending on experience but you can almost go anywhere and get a job as a paramedic. You NEVER work under the direction of an RN. Whoever said that is wrong. You have a medical director that you practice under. But you are kinda your own doctor as a medic. No asking for orders etc. But like someone else said....ambulance services are cutting back too. We are seeing it everywhere. Thanks to obamacare :/ so I suggest you do some ride-a-longs first to see if its something you wanna do. Cuz most people who do EMS are not in it for the money! Obviously this is all just general info and this is all PRE-HOSPITAL info. I think you should follow through with nursing school and finish. You will get a job somewhere. Just keep your head up. Even if you dont like nursing then you can turn to EMS....it is a very fun job.

A patient with COPD will do fine on high flow O2..even a non rebreather at 15lpm as long as they are not on it very long....a short period of time is not long enough to knock out their hypoxic drive. However you arent going to see great O2 sats with a COPD'er anyways and if they were already on 2lpm and then went to the bathroom with their NC off and their O2 sats were 93%. You probably wouldve been ok bumping them up to 4lpm and having them take some slow deep breaths in through their nose and out through their mouth. Works wonders with COPD'ers. Get them all the time like this on the ambulance. Just remember not to leave high flow O2 on very long if you put it on because it WILL knock out the hypoxic drive :)

My alternate spot got moved to a permanent one for the RT program at Terre Haute! I was so excited when she called I could barely contain myself. No word on the RN program and I honestly dont expect my alternate spot to change there. But wanted to update a few of you on here!!!! Yay!!!!!!! Looks like I wont need to hang around the nursing boards anymore :)

Yea a lot of RT's become RN's or visa versa. Good way to do more than one job you love! :)

I feel.like that for the RT program but not for the medic/Rn. I dunno I should be thankful at least I am an alternate...my mom was an alternate for both her lpn and rn and got a spot for both each time. Fingers crossed the same happens for me!

Well I got my Paramedic/Rn letter today and I am an alternate. Pretty bummed about that! So now I am alternate for the RT program and the RN program. So Im crossing everything that I get into one of the programs!! If not guess I will be applying for the Paramedic/RN in Terre Haute that starts in Jan. 2014. :/

And the above is NOT true about living on/off base. They have single soldier barracks and you arent allowed to live off post unless your unit gives permission. For the Army anyways

If you are wanting to do healthcare you should look into Army...whether it be reserves or active. You can join right now but you cant come in as an officer. You would just be enlisted. Ive always wanted to be an Army PA...but my husband is active duty and I have kids from a previous marriage so I cant join. Obviously your best bet is to go talk to a recruiter and find out exaclty what your options are. The Army or any branch offers an array of benefits and I think as a female you would be just fine. My husband is a recruiter for active and reserves if you have any specific questions before you actually go talk to one. :)

It depends on the requirements of your school. My school...NO. it is a waste of your time because they soley go off grades and TEAS. They could care less what you did before. I couldnt work as a CNA either. Mu sister does but not for me :/

Yes it is! Considering I had to apply with my first TEAS score which was pretty low...cuz their deadline is a month before nursing and it was a last min decision to apply for RT. So pretty darn good :)

Still waiting on lawrence letters for RT and medic to RN but when I got home from Ft Knox today I had a letter from the Terre Haute Ivy Tech and I was selected as an alternate for the RT program there!!! Pretty excited about that because I still have a pretty good chance of getting in.

Yea that is why I said IU Bloomington. My mom said it must be an Indianapolis thing :/ sucks to work up there then! She works 7a-7p. Her evening shift diff starts at 3p.

IU bloomington has not done away with evening shift diffs. My mom is an RN on med/surg and still gets shift diff. But yes IU you have to already have your BSN or get it within 5 years of employment or your gone. My mom had to sign that with them and she has been with them for almost 2 years but she was already working on her BSN when she was hired so she didnt care. Any LPN's that already work at IU have to have their RN within 5 years too.

Our school doesnt look at your GPA at all except you have to have a min of 2.0 to get in. Other than that they weight grades of pre-reqs and teas but is is only an ASN program :) it is also a very competitive program and you usually have to have A's and a high 70 or higher TEAS.

Most BSN accelerated programs around here you have to have a bachelors degree before you can be eligible. It sounds like they are talking accelerated because those programs are 2 years or less. However with an associates degree in art you are probably going to have to take a lot of science pre-reqs if you havent already done so. I know WGU is offering a 2 year bachelors degree option for students with an associates degree or higher. But like the above person said you need to check with whatever 4 year you are thinking about going to and never rely on advice from the college you are currently attending for what you can and cannot do at the 4 year school!!
