  1. Thank you all for the responses, I am feeling more confident now. CCRNdiva, I never thought of this situation that way-it seems very clear now.
  2. LOL. I know you are right but so many of my classmates here in Atlanta are very young and inexperienced some without nursing experience period. However the instructors give them prime clinically sites. I have had to find a site to gain the experience I need and I have it but many of the instructors seem to favor the younger nurses versus experienced nurses and I am hoping it is not a similar experience in the job market.
  3. I am graduating my NP program in December. Unlike many of the students in my program I have over 15 years of experience and I am older (in my 40s). I had a lot of obstacles to overcome in order to reach this goal (I have been trying since I graduated some 20 years ago) but I am here. I am concerned about the job market for me once I do graduate. My experience is in many areas, in fact the list would be shorter for areas that I don't have experience in. I know age discrimination is against the law but really am concerned that I will not be able to obtain an NP job. Does anyone else have this concern?
  4. This thread is so funny and great to read. I can't believe that it got so serious at one point. I am glad it's back and use it to laugh and smile after a trying day/evening in the ED. Trust me, I love being a nurse (it's my calling) but sometimes, I do wish that I could say to a patient: "So you're 20 and you've had nausea and missed periods for 3 months and you really don't know what's wrong, right". Or how about when a patient with multiple tatooes says, "I'm scared of needles!" Don't you want to smile and grin as you grab a 14 gauge. But we don't do we, we smile and treat them as graciously, as calmly and more professionally then anyone involved in a service based industry. I really do love, love being a nurse.
  5. Thank to all for your comments, it is a little more involved than I thought, so I think I am going to start very small. I am in the process of writing a business plan out with some projections so just pray for success for me as I jump into this venture.
  6. I have a few: -cover your mouth or turn your head when you cough or sneeze, I don't need your illness. - Nausea for an hour is not an emergency -most women who are pregnant have morning sickness, it's not something new! - Your doctor telling you to come to the ED if you can't wait until the morning for an appointment is not a MD referral, it's you being impatient! -Yes, I do know what I am doing, this IS necessary and NO I will not use a butterfly to give you fluids!
  7. Hi I am Marilyn I am originally from Florida but most of my family are in Georgia. I am so glad I am here and look forward to learning the city of Atlanta. I am awed with the change of seasons! I am a former High School teacher (I taught Health Science-CNA/First Responder) and wondered if there are any programs like this in Georgia. I am currently an ER nurse and loving it. I think God directed me to this profession as I love every aspect of nursing! I will be returning to school very soon for an MSN so that I can teach future nurses (I'm so excited!!) just need to get pass the GRE and/or MAT, which do any of you prefer?
  8. I am very interested in starting a home health agency. I have worked as a home care nurse in Florida but have recently relocated to Atlanta Georgia. I live in a growing area, but I have noticed that some people live miles away from health care services. Can someone offer an opinion about this venture?
