  1. I will graduate this Friday from an 18 month BSN program for people who already hold a bachelors degree. Ours is not called rapid track, instead it is aptly titled "compressed" because the normal 2 yr workload is compressed into shorter semesters. I have found the accelerated program to be very enriching and I would recommend to everyone.
  2. This is not related to my former post, but does anyone know of an online BLS/CPR recertification? Thanks!
  3. I agree that unmarried women with children need help, but I am tired of the discrimination that exists between married vs. unmarried which is very similar to the "both parents working/not getting to spend as much time with kids as they like/barely missing the qualifications for medicaid" vs. the "parents who decide to spend more time with their kids/drop to one income/qualify for social problems." Who is right? Depends on your own opinion. All I know is that what is good for one should be good for all. Being married should not make an individual less likely to get aid just like barely missing the cut-off for social programs should not create the idea that the family is not struggling. It seems to me that this country is increasingly rewarding the life-style of "no initiative" and making it harder for the middle-class who are not rich, work hard to improve themselves and their communities, and who pay more than their fair share of taxes. I am getting tired of the idea that if you are white/middle-class/college educated/married/childless (either singularly or a combination of these) that your life is a cake-walk. In reality, your education (and the education of others), bills (and the bills of others), and your availability to obtain grants/scholarships are totally up to you and you get no "slack" for your good decisions. Rather, people will tell you "it is so hard to be a single mother" (true, it is very hard, but your decision) or you are lucky to be married (why, to pay higher taxes & miss out on grants for nursing school?). Sorry if this letter seems cynical or offended anyone, but I just got done paying bills, studying, and I am preparing for a 12 hour day that will begin tomorrow at 5. Just my two-cents: take it or leave it :chuckle
  4. Hey everyone, I know that this is not the current topic, but does anyone know of an online CPR/BLS recertification? Thanks! :)
  5. Thanks for the link!
  6. I know that this is not really the board for education, but does anyone know of a good website/have notes/powerpoints, ect of prefix/suffix that you have used in the past or use now? I recieved a list of prefix/suffix words to memorize in high school that were medically related and from those that I remember I have been able to decipher a lot of the medical jargon that I don't use everyday. Also, does anyone know of a good reference book for neonatology? Thanks!
  7. The vast majority of the nurses I have worked with have been great, very welcoming and educational. Reading all of these posts from both student-nurses and nurses reminds me of something my clinical instructor who is 74 years old said. When asked by a nurse manager how she could get the new nurses to be better workers and take the initiative to do things my instructor replied, "You can inspire the new nurses and turn them into great nurses by setting the example yourself. Never think that anyones job is beneath you." I think that is great advice for all of us. RN's, LVN's, aides, assistants, patient care facilitators, ect need to stop bickering and start working together.
