  1. Am I wrong here??? Isn't Wisconsin a Multi-State Licensing state?? Meaning, if you take your state boards in WI, you will not need to take them in MN, and like 7 other states. I'm not sure if you have to have a certain number of classes actually completed in WI, but I would definetly call the Department of Regualtion and Licensing just to be 100% sure. Best of Luck!! & Good Luck on Boards, when in doubt, choose the middle answer!! :)
  2. Obviously companies/people can't NOT hire you because of your disability. According to the ADA, when applying for a position and have restrictions for the company/people a job within your restrictions needs to TRY to be met. HOWEVER, since you cannot drive yourself to the job I think it's almost impossible to get a job unless you can find a ride or find a facility close enough to where you live. As far as keeping your license current, I would contact the Department of Regualtion & Licensing. BEST OF LUCK & GOD BLESS!!!!! Nurseangels
  3. Just out of curiosity, why do you want to get your BSN? :)
  4. I am an LPN for a company. I do a majority of the pre-employement health screens. We do ask if you are currently taking any medications. We do a quick test and if it is pos. for opi, amp, thc, etc. we will ship it to a "lab" far away from us. The lab will be able to tell the amount and what kind of medication you have taken or are taking. Don't worry. The medication you have taken will most likely be out of your "system" by the time you test. I am not a doctor, but I have never heard anything about Motrin? affecting a drug test. If anyone knows about this let me know. I have had to defer people because they have had "false" positives. We generally , if you have available, will get a release of information from the Pt. and make a copy of the prescription. We will keep this on record because when the "lab" calls we can verify that we do have a copy of the medication. They will be able to tell what kind of med it is though. I have been told by my co-workers that the "lab" is so good they can tell (THC) what type and if it was second hand, columbian-cut, etc. PRETTY COOL! :rotfl:
  5. I attended a college where I had to have 78%, which is a C- in order to pass. Anything under, 77 or below was an F. I have, at least 2 times while I was attending college received grades of 76 and 77% and had to retake classes. I actually got dismissed from the ADN program and decided to just finish as an PN and take my boards. I was so bad at testing that I was unsure if I was even going to pass my boards. I waited 6 months after I graduated to take my boards. I am now an LPN. It was the greatest moment in my life. Anyhow, I do plan on continuing to become an RN. I am 4 classes away. My point is......Things happen for a reason. It took me about 4 years to get my degree as an LPN. Talk about not giving up.... I believe that you know if you really want to stick with this. I used to call my parents at least once a week and cry. School was the most difficult thing for me. If you want to do it, you will. Mine was actually a job. I landed the job of my dreams as an LPN. I now work as an occupational nurse for a large company. It is a job that I have wanted since I was 15. ??? There is a reason why you didn't pass. Maybe you can't see it right now, but you will down the road. I promise! Best Wishes! You can do it!!
  6. Hey, Went to a Case Management meeting and they gave me a ton of websites.... Hope some of these work: http://www.healthfinder.org/ http://www.cdms.org/ http://www.dhhs.gov/ http://www.janweb.icdi.wvu.edu/ you might also try CDC website or the Mayo website and type in the type of disorder??? :) Good Luck!
  7. I would highly recommend taking the basic nsg. classes first. I know you probably won't want to, but become a CNA before entering nursing school. It makes you appreciate nursing so much more.......take A&P, Microbiology,Pharm., etc. so you aren't overwhelmed when you begin your nursing courses
  8. Oh, you should go to Chippewa Falls. It's a really cool town. Large logging town. There is a park there with different types of animals--(very small zoo) the Leinenkugel's Brewery is there also. Don't know if they are giving tours this time of year???? I've never gone on a tour, but have always wanted to.
  9. Where do you live right now? About 2 years ago I moved back to my hometown from living in Eau Claire for about 5 years. I went to college there. I had fun while living there. What are you interested in??? Night life? Shopping? Traveling?
  10. I am really overwhelmed right now by all of the publishing companies that offer LPN to RN programs. I have recently attended a meeting with College network--$8,000. Rue's program would be about $6,000. I am willing to pay the $$, but I want to make sure the program is good. I am having a really hard time deciding which publishing company to go with or going directly through Excelsior??? I kknow the publishing companies are here to make $$, that's pretty obvious by the gap in price between all three companies. It's really hard to pay that kind of money when an RN program at a technical college is $7,000 total around my area. Obviously, the waiting list is extremely long or I would just go back to a technical college. As far as clinical work, I currently work in Occ. Health so I am not getting a lot of hands-on nursing. A plus for me is that I originally started out in an ADN program and had a lot of skills courses where we did NG, Irrigating, dressing changes, care plans, etc. I've read the forum here and I don't know what I think. I need pro's and con's from people who have been in each of these programs. Please Email me your response. Thanks!!! nurseangels
