2.5 gpa Best way to get accepted in nursing program?!
I will be applying for the nursing program in Fall 2014. I only have a 2.5 GPA because i didn't do so good when i first started college & ended up being put on academic probation. Now that I've got my s**t together, I decided to work towards becoming an RN & eventually a NP. But I'm having my doubts that I will even be acknowledged with my low GPA for the program. What can I do to raise my chances of getting accepted in the nursing program?! Should I take more classes to raise my GPA? Should I retake classes to raise my GPA? Should I volunteer in a hospital? Or should I just give up my dream of becoming a nurse because of my low GPA & from when I was on academic probation?! I'll take any advice because I really want to become a pediatric nurse practitioner someday. I'm only 21 y/o & ready to get my career started so I would like to know if I should continue pursuing a nursing career or something else. Thank You!

Advice please!
Hello. I'm 21 y/o female and I was recently diagnosed with Lupus about 10 mths ago. I was always healthy and strong before getting into my first "flare". I even had to get a blood transfusion because my blood count was really low. Anyway now that I'm on Lupus medication, (including Prednisone which I hate and made me gain 30lbs) and out of a flare, I'm a lot better than I used to be. but EVERYDAY I'm always left feeling tired, achy joints all over my body, back pain, weakness, & feel like I can't stand for more than like 2-3 hrs w/o feeling so tired and weak with swollen feet.. and the list goes on. I'm a pre-nursing student hoping to be an RN and eventually a PNP and hoping to apply for nursing school by 2014. I'm having second thoughts as to being a nurse because I know i would have to work 12 hr shifts, no sitting, possibly no lunch breaks if busy, and so on. Stress, spread of germs, lack of sleep, etc. could possibly set me into a "flare" and being sick for weeks at a time really sucks. My questions are for the people that have Lupus or any other autoimmune diseases.. -How is your day after a long 12hr shift?! -How to protect yourself from all the sick pts that come into the hospital? -How to minimize back pains and joint pain from working long hrs? -Even though I have Lupus, would Nursing still be a great career for me? Or too much for me to handle physically, emotionally, & mentally? Any other info would be greatly appreciated & helpful. Thanks!

Good "non-prerequisites" classes to take before nursing school?
I think Medical Terminology is a great class to take. It really helps with Anatomy & Physiology 1&2. Or maybe even take a basic Spanish or French class. Before nursing school, during the summer, I'm going to take Medical Term, Spanish, & Life-Span Psychology to help prepare me.

How far do you commute to school?
No more than 5 minutes. Thank goodness! (:

Really confused.. Pls Help!
I'm a pre-nursing student and finishing up the last 4 of my pre-reqs. Once I get accepted into nursing school, I'll finish with my ADN as an RN. I will be going back to school to get my BSN and my MSN. I would like to eventually be a nurse practitioner; not sure exactly what specialty just yet (maybe Peds or ER). I'm not exactly sure how all this schooling works or how to go about becoming a nurse practitioner. I guess my question is: Will I have to go back to school to get my practitioner license after I get my MSN or after my BSN? If so, how many more years is it to obtain my Practitioner license?! About how much would a Pediatric nurse practitioner make? Or an ER/Trauma nurse practitioner make? Or just any other advice about nurse practitioners or schooling would be great. Sorry to sound ignorant. I'm 21 yrs old and I'm really looking forward to a career in nursing. I have been doing a lot of research but just need a bit more info from people who are maybe already a nurse practitioner or from someone that is pursuing a career as a nurse practitioner as well. Thanks!(:

A&P1 & Microbio
As of right now i am taking Biology and Algebra Math. During summer I, I'll be taking Life Span: Psychology and during summer II, I'll be taking Medical Terminology. I'll be taking Anatomy & Physiology 1 and Microbiology at the same time in Fall 2013. I'll only be taking these 2 courses and working part time. Will A&P1 and Microbio be too hard or too stressful for me to handle? Is there anything I need to know or do before taking these 2 courses? What should I pre-study before class actually starts? I really want to be prepared because I would like to earn A's in both classes; B's at the lowest. Also in Spring 2014, I will be taking Anatomy & Physiology 2 and Statistics Math. Should I be worried about taking those 2 classes together? Thanks! (: Any advice would be helpful.

Advice?! Volunteering?!
Right now I am working on finishing up my pre-reqs for the nursing program. Just 4 more classes to go (microbiology, A&P 1&2, and Statistics) - which i am very nervous about taking soon.. and will hopefully apply to the nursing program at my community college by Fall 2014. Anyway I was thinking that I would like to get into volunteering in a hospital setting a few hours a week so I could eventually get a job there and once I finish the nursing program, I could possibly get a job as an ADN RN. But as of now i am 21 yrs old and have no experience in the medical field. My question is: Where and how can I get information about volunteering at a hospital? How do I apply? What are the requirements? I live in North Texas and would love some feedback pls! Thank you!
