Finished Probation
Hey guys! I haven’t updated in forever- but just wanted to update that I finished probation Feb 2019! Nearly 5 years of it- was so happy to be done - very thankful I didn’t give up, thankful for my support system, my faith, and keeping focused. The minute I was done, I booked a flight to celebrate to Fiji! Lol Just wanted to share with others who may be lost or discouraged right now- don’t give up, keep going. You too, will finish! If I can make it, so can you! If you don’t know my story- I suggest you read the thread lol.

There's hope!!!
Update to this update lol: I'm so thankful! Work is going well. My bosses support me continually. My co workers do as well. I really took what I had for granted. I sometimes think how close I was as February is approaching. But I know I just need to count my blessings cause I could've lost my license for about 3-5 years! I'm extra careful about what I am eating or drinking cause of the holidays- so be cautious! Happy New Year to all- stay positive and don't lose hope. (This was written in October this year- I posted in the wrong forum lol) I should've posted here and not in the General Discussion- sorry! Reposting now! Update: i retuned to work this past week! After about almost 5 months of waiting to hear from the board, I heard back and they decided to settle with my lawyer! At first I was going to a hearing, but my lawyer fought hard for me and saved my license. I don't deserve it, however I know I have learned my lesson. My probation was extended. I'm very happy with my outcome. I want anyone reading this to know there is hope. I thought I would lose my career for at least 5 years, but I didn't. Hiring my lawyer was the best decision I ever made and money I spent. You absolutely need an experienced lawyer when dealing with the board. I thank God for his mercy and grace. I will be a better nurse and person because of this.

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?

Yes indeed!! Reading other' posts really encourages us and gives us hope. How much more do you have to go in your journey?

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Yup, you must be right, such slow pokes our BON are. What state are you in? I'm in Cali. I really hope I don't get anything from the OIG, you know how they're slow... Eeeeek, guess I will be checking my mail and online more frequently

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Right?! It's like this black cloud follows you even after the "storm" passes and you're completed with probation. It's so terrible. I haven't received any notice from OIG, not that I can remember anyway! I'm sure I would remember. I was placed on probation upon passing my NCLEX in 2014, so idk if I even paid attention. I just wanted to take my NCLEX because I didn't want to lose the content in my brain. I signed my life away agreeing to probation so I could finally test and be an RN! So at that time, everything was "just do it so you can test!" Ahhh but I don't think I did get a notice... I mean if I did I should be on the website already right? It's been 3 years! I did however get the NPDB Letter yesterday which is strange since I've already been on probation. But like I said i can't remember anything about 2014 lol maybe I got it then too! Ahhhh what a mess

OIG/National Practitioner Database reports
You speak so well! Yes, I plan on doing just that- no more slip ups! I have to say, I am in my young 30s and a lot of my friends are still drinking and partying. I allowed myself to be in that environment still when I drank. I have evaluated my life and done some relapse prevention. So I don't plan on living that lifestyle even if I'm not drinking. My future and career is too important. One step at a time for me. As long as I can work still (stay off the OIG list) and complete probation, I will worry about future jobs later :) keep up your journey! And I'm so thankful for this awesome website!

OIG/National Practitioner Database reports
Hi there! Yes thank you so much for all this info. I was on probation for a DUI and I drank cause I slipped up with friends and now I am fighting to keep probatatuon. So far, lawyer says I'm ok. I signed the stipulated agreement and now waiting for the official ok! So I'm guessing I won't be on the OIG, I haven't been since 2013 when I was first granted probation, I didn't get placed on it til 2014 when I passed my boards and officially became an RN. I just want to work and get through probation once and for all! I wish our names could be off those DB I mean, we've done our time! I just would hate to not get a better job due to it. I plan on stayin where I am (my job is on hold (I'm on FMLA and my boss is eager for me to return once I get the ok...) but maybe one day I want something better? Ya know? Ahhh so frustrating thank you again for all your responses. I don't feel so alone, how has your journey been? I've been talking about me so much, sorry!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
That's still terrible to be on those data banks permanently but as long as I can work then I guess I can learn to live with it. I'll be checking OIG often just in case!! I've read that some don't even know they are on it after years??? Not sure how! It's all so scary

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Well said!!! I complete agree with you! Is Nursys also a "forever" data base? So what I'm gathering, is only OIG is the one thing you don't want to be on right? That's the one that prevents you from working- the DB and Nursys are kinda just like FYI to agencies....right?? Yikes I hope I stay off OIG! Thank you!!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Oh ok, so only hospitals, health plans, only certain people/places have access... It's terrible that even after you're off probation, you are still on it forever

Surrender or revoke?
Oh wow, I completely don't remember! Well, during that time, I just wanted to have my license so I signed my life away with probation (the BRN allowed me to test if I opted for probation) and I wanted to hurry and get the NCLEX over! So maybe that's why I don't remember about the data base! Thank you, as long as I can work! Does it affect where I work? Or is that only for OIG? (Not on that list... Yet, and I'm scared I will be! Should I be worried??) thanks again!!!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Oh I see! So unlike the OIG list, which prohibits you from working at most places that serve Medicaid/Medicare, the data base is more of like an FYI for the public? That's kinda what I'm gathering from you. It doesn't prevent you from working AT ALL. My report says probation for "criminal conviction" which was my DUI in 2010. I guess that's accurate?? DUI is considered criminal I can't thank you enough for your response, I've been worried sick all night trying to find any answers. I have a lawyer who I bombarded with emails last night lol. I'm currently fighting a case to keep me on probation because I tested positive for alcohol in May. Was a major slip up! According to my lawyer, CA BRN is willing to settle instead of a hearing and it looks like I can keep my license and stay on probation! But then I got that Data base letter yesterday and that freaked me out. I don't remember receiving a letter when I first got into probation 2 years ago! So idk why the BRN decided to place me on it now? However the report says it was filed in 2"13. I really don't know. Thanks again for your tremendous information. I'm hoping I don't show up on the OIG list (so far not yet...) I'm glad you aren't on that either. I wonder if I will ever be on it?? Any idea if that happens? Thanks again!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Hi there! Thanks for replying! I'm on probation in CA so mine is public as well. if you're on the NPDB, are you able to work? I am not on the OIG list (yet...hopefully never!) I guess I'm confused on the DB and list. So you can be on the DB and not on the list? I guess that's a better deal? Thnx for the reply! I have a great job that's waiting for me once my order is lifted- I'm currently waiting for my settlement to extend probathon. (I tested positive for alcohol and the BRN wanted to revoke my probation, but my lawyer says I should be settling for extension- which I'm so pleased to hear!) just hope I can work if I'm on that data base...

Surrender or revoke?
Hello there, so I decided to fight for my license. Got a lawyer and it appears that we will get a settlement. The CA BRN wanted to revoke probation, but I must've hired a good lawyer, he says we could do a settlement rather than a hearing. Settle for extending probation! That's good news. However today I got a letter that I have a report on the National Practitioner Data Base! It basically says I'm on probation for 3 years, but what's funny is that the action date was back in 2014 when I first got on probation. I honestly don't even remember getting on this data base back then. I'm a little confused. Anyway, I was wondering if you can work if you're on it? I'm not on the OIG (yet...) I checked it last year as well and again today. I know for the OIG you can't really work anywhere, but im not familiar with the data base?? Any info helps! Not sure if you're on one and not the other? Or both?? Or if the data base is a precursor to OIG that will soon come?!! Thank you!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Thanks so much for your reply! You were on the data base only? And able to work? That's great to hear. Were you ever on OIG also? I am only on the data base (so far) I'm scared about the OIG though. Not sure how it works if you're on both or one or the other?? All of this is confusing! Thanks for the input!

OIG/National Practitioner Database reports
Hello there, I'm confused about both the OIG and the NPDB. If someone is on the NPDB, are they also on OIG? Or vice versa? In my case, I received a letter from NPDB, not OIG. I've checked OIG a few times last year and this year and I am not there (yet.) A little info on me is that I'm in CA and on probation for a dui, however I violated probation this past May and am now fighting for my license because the BRN wants to revoke probation. Currently I'm still active and on probation and my lawyer says the BRN is willing to settle my case and extend probation-which is great and I'm thankful for! But now I just got the letter from the NPDB. It's all confusing. Any info helps. I just emailed my lawyer about this too. Thank you!!!

OIG Help
Hi there! I am so happy you got your life back together. I'm wondering if you were on the OIG list as well as the National Practitioner Data Bank? I am not on the OIG list (yet) but am on the other. My license is on probation at this time, however I violated it by testing positive for alcohol. I'm in the process of fighting for my license and to keep probation. FYI. Any input helps! Thanks!

Scared! Report to OIG and/or NPDB?
Hi there, I recently got a letter that I was on the NPDB, but not on the OIG (yet...) my license is not suspended or revoked, it's still on probation. Are you still able to work if you're on the DB? I don't know much about that. Any info is helpful! I have an attorney as well. I heard the DB is forever?? Do you ever get off it???

Positive Test on Probation
Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm with you. I really hate myself right now. I keep thinking " If only.." I am having really bad anxiety as well. I'm just waiting to hear from the Board now. I sent in my letters on Friday 5/27. How long did it take for them to give you a determination? Just curious. My probation monitor allowed me to work still, which I initially thought was strange. I contacted a lawyer and he told me to wait until I hear back from the Board. I haven't hired him yet. Not sure exactly what I am gonna do- depends on what the outcome is. I am on probation which is public already...so not sure what is left besides suspension or revocation. Thank you again

Positive Test on Probation
Hi there, thanks so much for the response! I sent my letter today and was honest as well. I basically told them the same thing. I live in CA and I have heard that they are pretty strict. They're cut and dry. I'm trying to prepare for the worst scenario which is revoking my license. I wanted to know if I should surrender it or have it revoked? I want to be a nurse again when/if they re-instate me. Just don't know which is the quickest way if it's surrendered or revoked. Any info helps. Thank you.
