  1. I was in the same boat: BA in Pysch and moving to another state with fiancé after graduation. Like you, I had started taking pre-requisites for nursing programs during my senior year of undergrad. I got my CNA in the state I was moving to (a 2 week course) before I actually moved there. The summer after graduation I went to Ohio, took the course, moved back home to Wisconsin for my summer job and towards the end of summer moved to Ohio with fiancé and got a job at a hospital working as a CNA. I had a few pre-reqs left to take, which I took at the local community college. I have lived here for almost 2 years and I am starting an accelerated nursing program at the College of Mount St. Joe's in Cincinnati. It is a Masters Graduate Entry Level in Nursing program, and after 15 months I will have my MSN. If you are worried about money, look into getting a job at a hospital that has tuition reimbursement as a benefit!! I had to work there for 6 months before that kicked in though. But all of my prerequisite courses were paid for!
  2. I graduated with a BA in Psych and while in my junior year, I also wanted to pursue nursing. It was too late to switch majors but I started researching accelerated nursing programs and completed the pre-requisites my senior year. While all programs may be slightly different I had the majority pre-reqs finished upon graduation. I worked at a hospital as a CNA and I am starting an accelerated MSN program at the College of Mount St. Joseph's in Cincinnati. Some schools (ex: University of Cincinnati) offer an accelerated program of 3 phases: 1: pre-requisites; 2: accelerated BSN (16 months) 3: specialization. After phase 2 it is recommended to get some work experience before you begin phase 3 for your NP. I never knew how many different nursing paths there are until I started researching. I would definitely suggest an accelerated program! At Cincinnati Children's they are requiring a certain percentage of ASN to upgrade to a BSN, so I definitely would not suggest getting your associates!
  3. Afleming and NewcareerforCP - I am also accepted into the August 2013 cohort! I am so ready to start classes!
  4. Hello, I am looking for some insight about working while in school. I have been accepted into the August 2013 cohort of the MAGELIN program at the College of Mount St. Joseph's in Cincinnati. It is advised to work no more than 16 hours a week during this accelerated 15 month program. I was hoping to keep my foot in the door at a local hopsital, but I do not want work getting in the way of my academics. I was hoping to touch base with some individuals who have worked while in this program. Any input is welcome! :)
