What are your pet peeves?
granny who you help while she is in the bathroom. she uses 2 squares of TP folded over 5 times and "scrubs" her perineum with her microscopic piece of TP. then she grabs hold of you so you can help her off the commode. Makes me crazy!!! Use more TP....and don't grab hold of me with dirty hands!!!!

COPD and O2 sat
NEVER deprive a patient of oxygen!!!! Yes, in this situation eventually there is going to be a problem with CO2 retention...but that can be addressed later. The immediate problem is oxygenation of vital organs. Sats need to be at least 90%.

Moved to a new ER, now I don't feel like I'm a real ER nurse anymore
You will learn assertiveness in due time. Day after day you will find that patients, families, physicians, coworkers....inevitably someone during your day will try and walk all over you. Eventually you will decide when it is enough and learn how to speak up, professionally. It does take time and confidence. FYI, your old job was not a typical ED. Welcome to the chaos of emergency medicine. You will learn to love it!

Drexel University FNP Fall 2014
Is anyone else still waiting to hear about the status of their application? I have been checking several times a day online and nothing has arrived via snail mail either. Is anyone aware of a date that responses were to be sent out??

Drexel University FNP Fall 2014
I am also waiting to hear back. I didn't realize that June 15 is the date that we are now looking at. It is getting awfully late to plan for work scheduling, etc. We are already planning for a September schedule and without having a letter from Drexel, it is making it very hard to plan life. Hoping to hear back soon. Congratulations to those that have already been accepted. Best of luck to those that are still waiting.

March 27th Cohorts and Newbie help
I am entering my 6th nursing class. Every book that has been "required", I have needed. So far, the only class requiring more than 1 book has been the ethics class. Otherwise, I have rented my books, usually they cost $20-30 a book. I think that's reasonable.

Global Health HSP 2210
I would tend to agree. Time is a huge investment in this class. I would have to say I commit 25-30 hours per week. The DB assignments are not simple 5 paragraph explanations. They are in fact, lengthy 2-3 page papers, often with 8-10 references. The material is interesting and the readings are not difficult. I too, would expect an A in the class, but I feel like I certainly put in a lot of work for that A. It seems as though there has been a dramatic number of people who were doing poorly, so the instructor added a bonus test at the end. That should help most people I would imagine. Hopefully, some of the wrinkles will be ironed out for the next session.

Global Health HSP 2210
Almost finished with the paper. Again, I am having a hard time making it with what seems to be the "minimum". I have >10 references so far and still more to go. I am finding that as I go, the information that I find just keeps getting to be more and more. I do really like the topics but putting 25ish hours a week is way too much. I wish I knew how to scale it back a bit but I am afraid if I do my grades will suffer. 2 more weeks left.

Global Health HSP 2210
I agree with you healthlink97. I spend much more time on this class than any other I have in the past. Very time consuming. I also find it difficult to post to the DBs with only 4-5 paragraphs. I am generally around 3 pages as well. Usually between reading and researching each DB, I would say I spend 8-10 hours on each one.

Family Nursing January
My TA has also been great. She provides a great deal of feedback with each assignment, making me feel like she is actually reading what was written. I tend to agree that this course has been somewhat challenging, but I don't think the expectations have been unrealistic. It has simply been a struggle at times to figure out what the directions for the assignments are actually saying.
