I started in a WIC clinic 6 months ago after working night shift and was exhausted all the time! Thought it was due to the switch from nights to days, but three months into it I knew that wasn't it. Went to the doctor and Epstein Barr came back high. She said I had a "reactivation" of mono. Well, 6 months later...still feeling exhausted and going to bed every night at 8 pm, lymph nodes in my neck are the size of marbles, and I'm constantly getting sick.

I do have an OB background and work casually on an OB floor, so I'm assuming that's where I'd be placed then. Which is totally fine with me, but like you said it's most likely based on their needs.

I have my BSN. I'm concerned if I went active, I would be placed in medsurg. In reserves, on drill weekends, do you work in an assigned hospital?

Does anyone know anything about being able to stay in your area of nursing in the reserves, like public health in my case?

Sw88tpea, So I'm assuming you were not able to stay in the mental health area? I work in public health, a clinic in a county health dept., what area would I be placed in? Med-surg? Also, do you know anything about reserves and how that would play out with my current job, etc.? Thanks!

I don't mean to intrude on someone else's thread, but I'd really like to get some advice from a military nurse as I'm looking into this avenue for a career.

Need advice please! I'm currently an RN in a public health setting also with experience in OB/GYN and med/surg. I have my BSN and have been working as a nurse for a year now, but have always wanted to go into the Navy as a nurse. I'm single without kids and feel this is the perfect time for me to fulfill my dreams. However, there is one thing holding me back. When I was in college, I was on an antidepressant. I'm no longer on one and doing very well. When I ask people, they just tell me not to mention it or lie and I don't feel comfortable lying about it. I have not contacted an officer recruiter yet. Any advice? Also, how badly are navy nurses needed right now? I see critical care and periop nurses as well as CRNAs are needed, but I'm not interested in any of those areas. Thanks!
