It really is a shame, and you speak the truth. I work in a nursing home and I see what goes on. I've been there about a year and a half, and over time my eyes have been opened to how much the residents suffer. On both the nursing floor and dementia unit, both are always horribly understaffed, and therefore the nurses and CNA's are frazzled and exhausted because they are so overworked, which is never good. Then, this leads to many of the staff getting angry with residents and verbally taking their frustrations out on them, which should NEVER happen. I feel so horrible for the residents. Then I hate when I see the laziness of some of the CNA's (even though most work very hard), when I see residents who are not clean and I suddenly see them with cuts and bruises everywhere...that just kills me. The most striking thing was when I showed up for work and saw one of the men with a huge gash on his head, all stitched up. I know I would not tolerate my loved ones being treated that way. I am not a CNA or nurse, nor am I blaming them for what happens, but what I see in this nursing home does not encourage me to pursue a nursing career in LTC in the future. I just wish there was something we could all do to make these places better. Many these people end up spending the rest of their lives here, and that's what is truly upsetting, thinking that the care is sub-par.

I agree carbon86, South Campus is very nice!! That's why I chose to go there from the get go. Their nursing classes seem pretty nice, from what I've seen. and I thought that you get extra points when you have AP done when you apply...that's what I've heard a lot of people say!

I know I will. I already applied to CCAC's School of Nursing as well as West Penn Hospital's school, so I'll hear something good from one of them...hopefully!

Rae2181 I did not pass either. I feel that if I wait the 60 days, it will be too late to apply to be seriously considered for acceptance, especially if my scores aren't too high. I worry they wouldn't have any spots left by then, you know? I wish you all the luck, but I guess I'll be looking elsewhere to apply.

That's where I failed with the PSB. I did terrible on that reading comprehension section. I just took too long, because they don't give you a lot of time for that. Also, the scores said I didn't do well on the verbal section, even though we did not have one, which I found quite confusing.

I submitted my application for CCAC's nursing program the first day the registration period opened. I already had all my pre-reqs done and will take a few co-reqs this summer to get ahead, no matter where I go for nursing. I have very good grades at CCAC with my pre-reqs so I'm hopeful... I took the PSB for Mercy and didn't make it but I am also submitting an application to West Penn SoN. I am hoping that CCAC will send out their responses quickly, I am so nervous! Oh that's a shame...and I would be mortified!

Everyone who took Mercy's PSB on February 7th received an email about the test scores were delayed from being sent to us on time...not only is it a bummer, but definitely makes that time frame of waiting more stressful. Hopefully we'll all receive our scores soon so we can move along with the process!

@rae2181, I took Mercy's PSB exam on February 7th as well. It was so hard! I am still waiting for my results, let's just hope the best for both of us.

Hi Rae2181, when is Mercy's open house? I will be taking the PSB in two weeks and would love to go to an open house and see what it's like.

Congratulations on being accepted! I am currently submitting my application for the PSB exam and I pray I will be accepted into Mercy's program for Fall 2013. Originally I was interested in going to CCAC, and I would never say anything bad about them or their nursing program, because I know they are good, but I always wanted to attend Mercy's program, and I believe it is the best thing for me. May I ask how quickly the application process was for you - from the PSB exam to finding out you were accepted? I will be sure to keep coming back to this thread. Congrats again and hopefully I will see you in August!
