University of South Alabama NP Spring 2015
Thank you Nursing girl2BSN!!! I applied to the post BSN women's health nurse practitioner program. I was an LPN for years, received my ADN in 2009, and my BSN in 2012. Most of my RN experience has been in women's health. So I have almost 6 years experience with time in L&D, postpartum, and gyn in a physician's office. I spent a few months in ortho/ telemetry, but obviously that wasn't my passion lol. My cumulative GPA was 3.77. I didn't apply to the DNP track because I wanted to take it one step at a time. I'm rooting for you!!!

University of South Alabama NP Spring 2015
Hello everyone, I applied to the women's health program. I called today because the anxiety is killing me and was told letters should be mailed in 1-2 weeks. Hope that helps, but honestly I'm still anxious.

Really frustrated, but am I to blame?
Thanks everyone for your replies. So I decided to just show up today and hopefully get some results. After about 30 mins of trying to figure out what to do with me, I was placed with a nurse who needed help. So Netglow I end up having to care for a load of patients...I did get a med login, no pyxis or charting login though ( yea you can imagine how that went). Still no set schedule, I was told I can work this weekend and hopefully the package would be completed eventually. Enough said, you all have helped me see the errors I made in jumping into something without fully researching. Yes classicdame I will be looking for a new position. RNewbie, this current position is a full time position, so that really baffles me as to why it was not better handled. HouTx you are right, there is no need for me to work L&D, or for that reason this mother/baby unit I am on, since that is a route for CNMs. The women's health experience I needed I received while working in a gyn office (paps, pre op preps, post op exams, education, birth control, pessaries, etc, etc) for almost 7 years. L&D triage would be the only sensible position for me now. Well as my husband says lessons learned and learned well. Back to jog hunting. Thanks again.

Really frustrated, but am I to blame?
Hello everyone, I really need help with my situation. Good news first...I was accepted into an NP program and I start in January. Hooray!! My concentration is adult health/women's health and I have experience in both. Now for the less than good news. I wanted to gain some L&D experience to help me be more successful in NP school (I thought). So I decided I needed to to embark on this quest to get into L&D. I was working on an ortho/medical unit and had a great prn position at a gyn office. Well after numerous job offers, I finally accepted a position on a mother/baby unit thinking it would get me closer to L&D. Now here's why I am frustrated. My manager seems to have a laissez-faire approach to managing. I completed my general company wide orientation last week and still have no set schedule to begin on the unit. I have spoken to her in person and called several times with little success. Once she told me she was trying to get my package together, whatever that means. She hardly ever returns my calls. I'm getting frustrated because I start school next month and this lack of feedback, disorganization, and poor communication is getting on my nerves. Then a charge nurse told me I really need to try to get into L&D triage, not mother -baby,if I wanted to gain more experience for school.I was even told by a current NP student I didn't need the extra floor nursing because I already have years of experience. Ugh!!! Had I known this I would have stayed put at my previous jobs!! What was I thinking??? I don't have a preceptor, I don't have a computer login password to chart, I can't get in the pyxis, I don't have a med login password, I have nothing. I sat with the unit secretary once (I suggested this to at least get on the unit),but I can't keep doing that. I even spoke with HR about a possible transfer, but you have to be employed there for 6 months. Well if I am never scheduled it's going to be a long 6 months. I am so sorry for this long rant, but I am really frustrated. If they didn't have a plan for me, why hire me?! My husband thinks it's because of the holidays, obviously he isn't a nurse. If things don't shape up really quickly, I really think I need to seek employment elsewhere. I don't need a full time job or benefits. My husband has a good job with excellent benefits. I just want to work now because I love nursing, to help our household, and stay current while I am in school. Please help me, should I leave or tough it out and stay?
