  1. I see. That's nice to hear. Just wondering too... what year did you graduate? Did you take the NLE before coming to California? When did you receive your denial letter from CA BRN?
  2. Just curious steppybay, are you also a Philippine nursing graduate who applied to CA and was denied eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN? If so, did you finish your coursework or go with the LVN route? Or did you apply out of state?
  3. Are you able to PM? What's your email? I can email you there. =)
  4. Ohh I see. So you're still waiting for a reply from them? When did you send your application?
  5. What else did they ask from you Halen? They asked me for my passport and SSN card...
  6. Hi! Did they ask you for you SSN card and passport?
  7. Hi kuyafern, I am just curious... What edition of lacharity's book did you use? Thanks.
  8. The California board will still look at your educational background no matter what. So the concurrency issue might be a problem in the event that your education does not meet California's requirements.
  9. Thank you for that information.
  10. Ok, earlier you wrote MSMU and when I googled it, only MSMU in Maryland came up. Thanks for clarifying that it's not MSMU but instead MSMC.
  11. Hi, This is for internationally educated nurses (IENs) who applied for the licensure examination in California and have been denied due to concurrency issues and are interested in taking additional course work to fulfill the medical-surgical nursing and obstetrics deficiencies. I would like to make a list of schools that offer programs for those deficiencies. If you have tried contacting schools and are successful in getting information for such programs, please mention them here and any other details. Also those schools that you contacted and do not offer anything can be listed as well so others know not to try those schools anymore. In essence, this will hopefully make it alot easier for us trying to research and contact schools instead of going back and reading post by post what others have said. I know alot of us are in the same situation right now and it's quite frustrating. But its gotten easier knowing that we are not alone. With this, I hope we can help each other out and share our knowledge. Anyway, these are the schools that I know of so far, based on what I have seen on a few threads: CSU Fresno - This is somewhat confirmed in that the program has yet to be approved. San Francisco State University (SFSU), National University, and Mount Saint Mary's College (MSMC) have been mentioned in other threads. I have contacted SFSU, but they made no mention of programs for just those two courses and that you would need to be a full time student enrolled in the actual BSN program. I am not sure about National University and MSMC. To anyone who has inquired at these schools, please let us know how that went.
  12. By the way, the MSMU you are referring to... is that Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland? I haven't heard of any MSMU in California. Also, have you tried University of San Francisco (USF)?
  13. Steppybay, I just called the nursing department in SFSU and mentioned about the MS/OB deficiencies and they said that they offer no such thing to people in our situation. They told me that I'd need to be a full time student enrolled in the whole nursing program to take those courses. Where did you get that information about those 900 foreign applicants applying for 1-2 spots? Maybe you are reffering to the actual whole BSN program they offer, as that is impacted. Because they made no mention of programs for foreign grads with the 2 deficiencies.
  14. Congrats! So that means NV BRN didn't ask you to take any more courses?
  15. Apparently, from what I have read and heard, the whole concurrency issue has been going on for quite some time. And as for those deficient courses, it's another option the CA BRN is giving those applicants whose cases and theory were not concurrent, or if the courses they took didn't fulfill that of California standards. It's really on a case to case basis. As for those who did get a license and have those deficiencies, then there's a possibility that their apps can be reviewed again. Not sure, but it could happen.
  16. @steppybay, oh I was referring to calirobs wife, not his friends wife who has a NY license. What's the 14th state you're referring to? I've seen the thread that mentions 13.
  17. Thanks steppybay. It's worth a try. What school is MSMC?
  18. Are you totally positive that there is no other school out there doing the same thing that CSU Fresno is doing? By you saying we need to come in as a new student... That's another way of saying starting school all over?
  19. @calirobThat's great that it all worked out for your friend there in NY. Guess it's just a matter of giving it a shot and applying there and taking chances. Is your wife enrolled in a school yet to take those deficiencies? Do you have any info bout the CSU Fresno program? Or any other school?
  20. We are both in the same situation... Born in california too but I just went to college there in the philippines. Just wondering... Why did you have to take the TOEFL when in fact you're a US citizen and already a native English speaker?
  21. Hi there, @steppybay do you have more information about that CSU Fresno program you mentioned? I'm seriously interested. Or any other schools for that matter that's willing to take IENs in? Has anyone here already enrolled in a school program in Cali to fulfill the deficiencies and had success with that? Thanks.
  22. Wow... And to think NY was my back up plan. Yes, you're right. It's definitely worth a try. Thanks again.
  23. Thanks for that perioddrama. But it still isn't clear as to whether or not NY has that issue. No confirmation that it should be added to that list huh?
  24. Hi, I went to nursing school in the Philippines and just got my Philippine license. I am a US citizen, born and raised in the US. I'm looking into applying for the NCLEX in California. I have heard about the concurrency issue that's been going on, especially for California applicants. I also read the many accounts of philippine graduates who have been denied eligibility. I am quite worried that I might get the same letter because my cases and theory are not concurrent (which to me is close to impossible if you're a student in the Philippines because there's only so many patients that you can handle in a certain area, e.g. Delivery room and operating room, it is not possible to finish all required cases within a few days span and also not to mention, there's other students in the group competing for those cases). Based on what I have read, it seems that the California BRN has given an option to take courses in medical-surgical nursing and obstetrics. Is there anyone here who has taken that route? What schools in California have programs suited to our case? And @kuyafern, I have read your posts and I see that you made mention about CSU Fresno. Can you please provide me info regarding that school? I am really interested because that just might be my best bet. Also, has anyone applied to New York and experienced the concurrency issue as well? Thanks.
