  1. None. But I started out in Surgical ICU and I didn't like it. My friend does ER and has a love/hate relationship with it. ER burns you out but it's always something new. OR does not appeal to me at all. Its too damn cold and I would hate standing in the same spot for hours.
  2. No, I have never heard of anyone ever being fired for too much overtime. I have also never fired anyone as a manager for having too much overtime. But I have given corrective actions to nurses not getting approval for overtime and have also flexed schedules. Now someone may be fired for having overtime and not actually working, but that is stealing time.
  3. Hi, I have my MPH and ADN. I went to graduate school straight after getting my Bachelor's in Community Health. I initially wanted to work for the CDC in public health. I couldn't find a job with my MPH, so I went back to school and earned my ADN. I don't think having my MPH has any affect on anything. I have gotten management positions in nursing due to me having my MPH, since I don't have my BSN as of yet. I am currently in Walden University BSN/MSN-NP program. So in my opinion there is no particular benefit of getting your MPH unless you want to work in public health specifically. But I can say that I do not feel my MPH was a waste of time and that it does help me in my current nurse management position. But if you want your NP license, then don't waste your time getting a MPH unless you just enjoy going to school.
  4. Hi everyone, I just recently started my RN to BSN-MSN at Walden University. I am in my second quarter of classes but I am not sure if this is the right school for me. My learning style is more auditory/visual. But this program is not working for the way that I learn. I have a disability, so I have a hard time concentrating on reading long passages without have something to listen to and keep my attention. There are no seminars or online lectures in the program. We just read articles and post to the discussion boards. They just assign multiple chapters to read but the assignments and resources do not align to what we have read. There are no powerpoint slides or anything that I can use to follow along while basically teaching myself. There is no way to interact in the courses besides the discussion boards. In my health assessment class we have a program called Shadow health and it is great. I am able to talk to the program and see what I am learning. My question is does anyone have any online RN-MSN-NP programs that have more interaction? With seminars or lectures/ powerpoints? My fear is that I will become bored with the program and not retain the information that I need to learn. I was so excited to start this journey but I fear that I have chosen the wrong school for me. I live in Atlanta, GA. I originally wanted to attend University of South Alabama or University of Alabama in Birmingham both online.. but I tend to get bored and lose my motivation after being in the same course for 16 weeks. I would like a program that has shorter weeks, online, with more interaction. Please help.

  6. I just started working at this particular facility so I haven't formed relationships quite yet. But I did develop some at my previous job as ADON and I will look into those I met there.
  7. I have began looking. I'm just so nervous about it.
  8. Hi I am a RN in the state of Georgia. I have a Masters of Public Health (2011) and ADN (2014). I currently work in a SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility) as an Assistant Director of Nursing. I am currently applying to online NP schools for Adult Gerontology Primary Care. I have researched so much to the point of frustration. I just wanted to reach out to ask NPs who have completed their programs to find out are there any schools that set up preceptors. I live in Georgia and would prefer something online. I have also looked into schools in Alabama. I am becoming so discouraged on attending NP school from reading the horror stories on having to find preceptors.

  10. That is what it says on the website. The FNP has to complete clinical hours in Texas and have a Texas license.
  11. I would choose the closer job.. hands down because over an hour drive is just way too long to be getting back and forth to work. You have to take into account the cost of gas and your safety driving for so long after you get off your work shifts. You didn't mention if they are 8 or 12 hour shifts, so just add 2 1/2 hrs to that not including if there is traffic or if you get held up at work and end up staying longer. Even if the closer job is not your "passion" you can start there and just continue looking for other opportunities. Good luck with your decision
  12. Hi everyone that got there Feb 2013 acceptance letters. I just logged onto the Kaplan quad and they have the courses and time listed that I would need to be taking this term. Go on there to see if they have something listed for your schedule.
