  1. Hello! I just filled out an application for a Banner facility as a registered nurse with 7 years of experience. I was asked what I was expecting to earn per hour. What do mother-baby nurses with 7 years of experience earn on nights in AZ? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!
  2. Does this apply to all Banners?
  3. Hello there!!!! I am moving to AZ within the next few months. I currently live in CA where we were blessed with nurse-to-patient ratio laws. I am aware that AZ has no such laws. On average, how many patients do you care for during your shift and what unit do you work on? (By the way, I am a mother-baby nurse) THANKS!!!!!
  4. Yes, but not all the clinics do abortion services and they do more than abortions. The counsel people on family planning, provide birth control, do pap smears and breast exams, provide education on these issues, etc....this is exactly the kind of environment I want to work i . I am trying to get away from the bedside.....
  5. Thank you. I definitely didn't want to go back to school for any kind of nursing degree, but I wanted something health related. Just trying to figure out how to work in women's health with this degree.
  6. Hello, all. Just wanted to know if anyone here has a Master's degree in Public Health, and if so, what are you doing with it? I am currently in school to obtain mine and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I definitely want to get away from the bedside!!!!!!! I LOVE wome's health, and i am leaning towards something along those lines.......I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT!!!!!
  7. Hello all!!!! It's been a while since I've been here. I am currently a Mother-baby nurse and filled out an application for Family Planning Associates. I didn't think they would respond. Well, THEY DID!!!! I have an interview Friday and I am wondering if there is anyone here who currently works for the establishment or has in the past. If so, do they pay well? What has your experience been like working for this establishment? I am nervous and excited at the same time, wondering where this will lead me. I LOVE women's health and I think this will be a great opportunity for me. What say you, Allnurses family?!?!?
  8. What guides have you guys used to prepare for the NCC board certification exam for Maternal-Newborn nursing?
  9. Ha ha, I ment to put L&D, not the smiley face lol...
  10. Thanks for your reply! I tried L&D after starting Mother Baby and found Mother Baby to be the right fit for me. This is where I know I want to be. I'm glad to hear it's easy to get into. Does the pay allow you to live comfortably in AZ? That is a major concern of mine...
  11. Hello!!! For personal reasons I am considering relocating to the Phoenix area from Southern California. I work in a hospital on a mother baby unit and make $41 an hour with a bachelor's degree and 4 years experience, however the cost of living is relatively high...right now, gas is over $3 and you can't find a decent home here for less than $399,000. How much, roughly, would a mother baby nurse with a bachelor's degree make in the Phoenix area? I have already researched the housing market and it looks pretty good compared to here!!!!
  12. 5-6 couplets is a lot!!!! I once worked in a hospital that had separate postpartum and nursery units--they hadn't gone mother baby. We went 6:1 then because we were only caring for moms, not babies. But once you put babies in the mix, things become a lot busier!
  13. Hello. I work at a southern California facility. We are staffed 3:1, unless we are really busy or short staffed, then we go 4:1. No antepartums--they go to out Maternal-Fetal Care Unit...we do care for NICU moms but it doesn't automatically bump our ratio up to 4:1. Babies room in with moms but there is a nursery available for moms who simply want to rest for a few hours, and the nursery nurses do assessments for us at times but are not required to. Nursery nurses also sometimes step in to do newborn screens and they draw labs and start IVs on babies that need them. I love my facility!
  14. Thanks for all the feedback!
  15. So, I am working on a mother baby unit and I am considering moving on to public health. Just wanted to know how some of you like public health. What are some pros and cons, and do you miss the floor?
  16. How is the new job going so far. What is your schedule like?
  17. We are rocking in the same boat. I am seeking to go back to school for public health and I plan to work in the MCH field. Have you heard of Nurse Family Partnership?
  18. I think that is a bit much and I dont even work med surg lol.
  19. I was strongly considering leaving California to go to Nevada. The main reason I wanted to leave was because the new homes in many parts of Las Vegas are beautiful and very affordable compared to the homes in Cali. However, I am now thinking about unions (I dont know if Nevada has hospital unions) and the almighty California nurse to patient ratio laws, which I know Nevada does not have. Now I am thinking of staying right here in Cali. I am confused and need insight and input from Nevada nurses. HELP!!!!!
  20. I have been a postpartum/mother-baby/labor and delivery nurse for 2 and a half years and I am looking to get away from bedside nursing. I want to get into public health (I have my public health licence and am considering going to school for my Masters in public health) or case management. Is there a such thing as a postpartum/mother-baby/l and d case manager? I see lots of geriatric and ER case management positions out there but nothing like what I am looking for...
  21. I am actually Postpartum and Mother-Baby. I can learn a new computer system quickly
  22. I have been a nurse for 2 and a half years and I still have questions when it comes to patient care. This makes me wonder if I would be a good fit for travel nursing, since you get a 3 day orientation and you are expected to know so much. Travel nurses, what do you think?
  23. I am taking Maternal Newborn Nursing
  24. I have a feeling I am not gonna pass my RNC exam. I read here from a few people that it's a test you can pass based on experience and since I was gonna take the GRE and my RNC exam pretty close to each other I didn't put much emphasis on studying for the RNC exam. A friend of mine purchased books to study for the test and now I feel dumb for not preparing for it like I should have. I take the test this Tuesday, too late to reschedule :-\. Im just gonna pray! Anyone ever pass without "studying"?
  25. I have applied to several universities for a masters degree. If I dont get into either of the programs I will be applying to online programs. Can anyone tell me how they feel about their online program, Pros and cons? Personal experience? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! (I am applying for MPH by the way).
