Denver School of Nursing
After reading these posts, I just wanted to say, as someone who attended this school and recently graduated the LPN program, be careful when going beyond this level at this school. I passed the NCLEX, so obviously I learned something from the school, but to spend that amount of money on a school that is NOT accredited yet(for the upper division)may not be very wise. At my new job, word is already out that the school is not accredited and people are very leary about students from this school. Yes, it has a short wait list, but waiting two years to get into a reputable school may be worth it.

Studying for NCLEX
Thanks for everyones input! I study with Saunders and it has helped me alot so far! I just graduated so I need a little break before I dive back into the book. If I dont take a break, I'll be too burned out to absorb anything!

Studying for NCLEX
I take the NCLEX soon and have taken the week off of work prior to study for the NCLEX. Is one week with intense studying enough?? I planned on studying 8 hours (or more if needed) each day until I take it. I'm just worried that won't be enough! Any thoughts???Thanks!

Colorado Wait Lists?
I have heard that PPCC has a shorter wait time than anywhere in the Denver area. I was on the waitlist for the LPN program there and ended up going to DSON. I had left myself on the waitlist at PPCC and was notified this summer that I got into the PPCC LPN program- I was on the waitlist there for about a year. Hope that helps!

Tom Cruises' take on Psychiatry
I saw the interview and was expecting to hear about a movie that the actor was paid to make. His views on psychiatry do not interest me at all. Most people in the general public are smart enough to know that he is only an actor. He's entitled to his opinion but he sure made himself look like an ass. I'll have a hard time watching his movies without thinking in the back of my mind how narcisistic he really is.

Client or patient?
"patient"- "client" is too business oriented for me.

New Graduates...
I just graduated as an LPN(NCLEX not taken yet) and plan on specializing in woundcare after my RN. I think woundcare is fascinating because you can clearly see your results(or lack of) and there is alot of educating that goes on, both to staff and patient. I'm starting off in internal medicine though to get a good overview.

Interesting Online LPN to BSN
Doesn't the website say you have to be an LPN licensed in Oklahoma? Maybe I misread it??

Any Suggestions for a 1st time Clinical Instructor???
As a student just finishing up my first year, I would say don't underestimate the students. Push them. Underestimating them is insulting to them and does nothing for their self-esteem. Its as if you are telling them that you don't think they are capable of more. Praise them and practice much patience!

Kaiser Scholarship--hot
I am graduating in late June with my LPN and already have a job lines up with Kaiser. Can anyone tell me what the union dues are, or do they vary from state to state???
-
What weekends do you work?
every weekend, unfortunately.

Any Colorado Springs Nurses out there
I agree- Colorado Springs is very conservative compared to the rest of the state. I lived in the Denver area for years, moved to Colorado Springs for a couple years because it has cheaper housing, then ended up moving back to Denver. It was way to conservative for me.

Who is your Favorite TV or Movie nurse?
Margaret Houlihan all the way!! She was awesome!

LPN/LVN rate of pay in your area.
I will start at $15 an hour(plus free health insurance) once I graduate in June. Plus, they pay for IV certification. LTC pays more but it wasn't an area I am interested in.

LPN school rules
It seems like it depends on the school. I haven't heard of a dress code, but you need to wear your hair pulled up at clinicals.

University of Phoenix LPN-BSN program
I was looking into this program about three or four months ago and some admissions guy called me and said the program(LPN to RN and LPN to BSN) was on hold??? I didn't get more info on it since he seemed to be a little unsure of what he was saying! I tried to call an 800 number to find out more and no one returned my call. I'd be interested in learning more on this also.

Denver School of Nursing
I graduate in June with my LPN from DSON. I am not going back for my RN at DSON(because of the high cost, etc...). I'll send you a private message, Annesy!

Clinical issue??
Several students did talk to the instructor but she stated that she wanted us to see what a "team" does. We tried to explain that since most of us have had other careers before going back to school, we are already well aware of how important teamwork is in the job setting. She talks to us and treats us as if we are five! Very frustrating!! Thank you for your comments!

What Exciting Thing is Your Management Doing For 'Nurses Week'???
Food. Lots and lots of food.

staffing on nights
On a psych unit at the state hospital, we have 23 patients, one RN and two clinicians. Thats our standard for night shift regardless of patient census.

Clinical issue??
I had a quick question for anyone out there- I am in my last quarter of an LPN program and my clinical instructor has had us shadow everyone BUT a nurse for the past four weeks. For example, I have shadowed a Respiratory Therapist, a CNA and an OT. While I understand the importance of knowing what the other team members do at the hospital, my careplan on a patient(who I have only spent ten minutes with since I was busy with OT) is due next week. Is this a normal occurance with clinicals? I only have seven weeks left in this program and am feeling stressed beyond belief...help!

Denver School of Nursing
I know what you mean about the waiting list. I have a Bachelors also and was so fed up with waiting to get into a program, I opted for the LPN program instead of the BSN program. I heard DSON does have a waiting list now for all of the programs, but I'm not sure how long it is. (Probably not the two plus years like every other school!). Good luck with your program and I'm glad its working out for you!!

Nursing School Bulge? Is it just me...........
I gained 5 pounds in the first 8 months of school, but I walk 30 minutes a day at least and stopped drinking pop. I'm hoping to work at a hospital that has a huge discount to a local gym so I can work off the rest of this...
