  1. WOW for a peds situation like that, you should have been exempt from all the rest of the CPNE...BRAVO to you.:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe
  2. I did my CPNE, years ago, @ ELLIS HOSPITAL, Schenecdity, NY and that weekend (Memorial Day weekend) there were 3 children on peds, 2 were discharge Sat morning and the 3rd's parents would not allow a student to work with their child....SO, what was explained to us was, that we would have an adult patient as a substitute client. That suited me fine, as I too hadn't taken care of children in a hospital setting since LPN school, 23 years prior. I don't know if the program even uses ELLIS Hopsital anymore. It might have been eaten up by a larger hospital group and may have a different name now. I do remember that is was small and although it was a stress-provoking weekend, the staff was helpful and pleasant and was very supportive and LOVING when they heard that students passed....let me use the desk phone to call home and all cheered when the family picked up) REVIEW REVIEW and know the Critical Elements ( gee, do they still call them that?) and keep telling yourself " I can do this". My motivating force way back when was, "I've been doing this for years. I do as much, and know as much, if not more, than the new GNs and I deserve the same pay for the same job"..got me through. Passed the first 3 patient situations and then had to wait at the hotel for my friend to finish. GOOD LUCK !!!!!
  3. More education for nurses is a good thing! This proposal will eventually be the entry level into the nursing profession. Most nurse I know want to learn more and more about patient care and nursing, be it through formal education or on the job training. Several posters in many different forms have the wrong interpertaion of what "grandfathering" in a profession involves. Stated simpley, it means that you maintain the title/licensure you have earned and are NOT required to obtain additional eduacation-or-testing. The proposal was originally introduced in the 1970's as the "1985" proposal that stated anyone entering the nursing profession in the year 1985 must earn a BSN within 10 years of graduation. Old timers, like myself, would be "grandfathered" in as an RN, which I earned and passed the NCLEX. My title would never be taken from me, and further educational requirements do not apply. If I were starting school tomorrow, and the proposal were in effect than I would be bound to the new regulations set forth by legislature and the NJ Board of Nursing. It is hard to go back to school! BUT where there is a will there is a way. I did it 20 years ago, working 2 part-time jobs and raising a family. My children saw my struggle and learned a valuable lesson from my strife. They learned that no matter the cost, an eduaction pays you back 10 fold and opens your minds to opportunity. Try to look at this resolution as the opportunity to improve yourself, add to your education and thought process. Self satisfaction and professional enhancement will abound.
  4. I believe that you are all referring to the "1985 BSN Position Paper", originally proposed back in the late 1960's. This paper, as a result of a national grant given to nursing educators to formalize their evaluation of nursing education. It proposed that by the year 1985, the minimum entry level education for a professional nurse be a BSN. This stance immediately received negative reaction from the association of ADN programs developed after WW2, by M Montag. It has been kicked around for years and years, re-surfacing evey several years, with no avail. One poster is correct that it must be proposed and then voted on. This has been attempted almost a dozen times all with no success. Currently, NOTHING is happening in NY State. It has been met with such resistance that it has been shelfed once again. ADN programs are too strong in numbers and they want their govt grants $$$ to continue. The National Association of LPNs are adamit that they will strongly endores LPNs as educated nurses. With a constantly looming nursing shortage this is not the way to go......although eventually it might be the norm, most educators I deal with say the only way to do this is "grandfather "in all currently licensed RNs , as RNs. Your status will never change. You can not be knocked down into another catagory--as you are licensed and responsible for your level of education.---hope that clarifys a few things---
