PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls
Hey all, congrats on getting accepted to the program!!! :) I just graduated with my RN in May. I have ALL practically brand new books still ( I bought only 10 months ago at PHSC and barely used them) for the nursing program. I also have a never used lab coat, phsc shirt for school events, and lots more!!! If anyone is interested in buying them for a cheap cheap price (cheaper than any website would sell you at a used price) then email me at [email protected]. My books are just sitting here waiting to be used.

PHSC 2015 Nursing Hopefuls
I just graduated from the RN transition program and I have just about everything you would need for it (lab coat, PHSC shirt for special events that I only wore once, brand new blood pressure cuff, uniforms that have ink pen stain on the pocket because I bent over with the pen in my pocket lol, and every book etc.) Size small. If anybody is interested in a bundle of stuff for a much cheaper price than retail then let me know! :) I was going to resell everything back to the school but I figured that the school would only try to make a profit out of it so I'd rather sell myself.

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
I graduated from the LPN program in March 2012. I've been an LPN since December 2012. I have worked in pediatric home care with children who are on ventilators, have trachs and g-tubes. One of my scary experiences- I will never forget when I was changing my pts Trach ties (by myself and the parents were not home) and the trach popped out when she made a sudden movement (expect a baby to not stay still lol) and my 11 month old pt turned blue, very quickly. Let me tell you that is more terrifying to see on a child than an adult. But of course I got the trach back in immediately, which can be hard to do on a baby and without lubricant.

Perfect!!! Thank you so much!!! Yes I have 9 because it is the transition program. I am assuming that lab counts.

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
thank you but I am confused on how to calculate my pre req GPA only lol I have taken so many classes so I'm not sure how to calculate only specific classes together.

Hmm So how do I calculate that? I have 5 As and 4 Bs. Do they calculate that as one semester?

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
There must have been a lot of transition students who applied this year! :/ I am sorry

I am sorry I feel your pain, you're not alone. @Risky Wow I never knew that. That is great to know. Looks like I will apply to both next year. I will be working really hard these next 10 months to improve my scores and GPA! We can do it! If we can make it through LPN school and NCLEX, then we can make it through this!

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
That is a great question!! Do they only look at your pre-req GPA or your overall GPA for the program?

Yes, you can. But you will still have the old grades on your transcipts and they will still count towards your GPA. Just like the F I have for a class I never attended with them, I actually received an A when I did actually take the class (in a different school). Unfortunately, the F still brings down my GPA. Or you can take any additional classes you haven't taken. I plan on taking Public speaking and Sociology online. I am not sure if you have taken those yet?

Ohh no I am so sorry. and I seen you got a 77% on your TEAs. There must have been alot of people who applied with high scores :/ I thought for sure you would get in!

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
ohh that would be so great :) I am sure you won't have much extra time to help poor little ol me once you start the nursing program but any extra study materials or tips you have would be lovely! I really need to improve my TEAs score drastically. I was thinking about spending this next month studying the TEAs before I start fall classes. I know you are only allowed to take the TEAs 3 times a year but is that in the same year (all of 2014) or is it within the year from the first time you take it? I took my TEAs on May 27, so does that mean I only have until May 27, 2015 to retake it twice?

Aww thank you. and I had a few friends go through Excelsior and I do not think it is for me. It is pretty much self study and you have to pay like 300 for the tests each semester and if you fail then you have to wait 3 months to retake it (and of course pay another 300). They pretty much tell you to study 300+ pages for each test. It is very broad. I had a friend fail first try and I also had a friend succeed very quickly through the program. I know for a fact that it isn't for me. I know my study habits and I also prefer visual and hands on experiences. But thank you for giving me some ideas :) If I don't decide to go to private school by December then I will definitely be applying to PHSC again next year.

Transition program I will probably wait. I just can't see myself going back to private school. They will require me to retake classes I have already taken (because they want your money and will only accept so many credits). I am completely done with every class for PHSC, so that would be perfect considering I could just focus on nursing. I am just feeling F'd over from Rasmussen because my GPA is 3.1 only because they hold your grades to a higher standard. So all of my Bs that I have from them are really A's (93%) and my one C was an 85%. PHSC also has an F on my transcripts from a class I never took with them and they denied my appeal but I plan to write another letter this year. I am also scared about reapplying next year due to the fact that 25 spots will go to paramedics. I am so confused and I feel trapped. I guess I will spend this next 10 months trying to improve my scores. I already signed up for classes for fall (that I don't need but figured another 4.0 will improve my GPA a little) and I will work hard on improving my TEAs score. And I will hope that they drop that F! I guess things do happen for a reason. I will take this as a sign to just spend this next year enjoying my 6 year old and my 6 month old.

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
It really upsets me when I hear people down talking LPNs. We work just as hard and in a hospital we do almost everything an RN does BUT we get paid LESS. LPN=Less Paid Nurse lol We all want to finish our RNs so we can get paid what we deserve!!!!

PHCC Fall 2014 hopefuls!
Yea, I am done with just about every class I need. I have Galen as a back up plan as well (If I don't wait to apply again next year). I like that they offer evening classes for working LPNs. And you're absolutely correct, a nurse is a nurse, I have met a few bad nurses from PHSC but the school isn't to blame. Being a nurse isn't easy and it is something that you should truly want to do and love to do. I believe the bad nurses come from the people who choose this career because of the pay. But yes, I still want to be a PHSC nurse too! :) Sending positive vibes to everyone :)

Wow, I think we have the same exact feelings. I mentioned earlier in this thread how I felt stuck in life and I agree, it is very depressing. I truly wish I didn't take the LPN route but I just wanted to get started with my dream job. I can not afford to go back to a private school. I will most likely wait to apply again next year if I don't get in. On a positive note, I don't think nurses who graduate from a profit school have to worry about getting hired. I worked for HCA for 4 years and MANY nurses were hired from all types of schools. My friend just graduated from Rasmussen and already scored a job in ICU. I also worked with another nurse who graduated from Galen and had no problem getting a job in a hospital out of state. BUT I definitely don't want to spend another 20,000 to finish school. Either way, we will finish our RN. :) I will never give up on that. I have a feeling you're in! :)
