  1. Someone posted earlier saying that they will do your second interview the same day if you are an out of state applicant. If you are worried, you could call and verify that you won't need to fly out again. I would be really surprised if they aren't accommodating. Most new grads can barely afford that first plane ticket! Good luck!
  2. That's what I am hoping for, too. Just know that you aren't the only one still waiting.
  3. Awesome! I chose the same areas, and in the same order. My status still hasn't changed, and I am beginning to worry that they are not interested because I've had other (although non-RN) jobs. Anyone else here had a previous career or know of someone who was selected for this program with significant work experience behind them? I am a good candidate and can't see any reason that they wouldn't want to at least give me an interview. Back to waiting...
  4. I'm still waiting with you Bethany! We gotta stay positive
  5. No change for me either. Waiting patiently with the rest of you guys...
  6. Thanks for sharing this info! Did she happen to say when they send out invitations for interviews (early or late Nov)? Anyone know anything about the interviewing process? Do they give us a set interview date and time, or can we let them know what would work well for us? I am assuming the former, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure. Has anyone asked about phone/Skype interviews?
  7. None of my top picks were in the same specialty as my preceptor. We didn't get to pick our preceptors at my school, so assuming that somewhere we were placed for a class was an advantage doesn't really make sense. I decided to let them know the areas I truly want to pursue, and if I am not a good fit, then I should be looking elsewhere. Also, since this is a new grad position, they aren't particularly looking for "experience" as a qualification.
  8. Have you looked into public health nursing? Most jobs still work directly with patients, but it isn't the typical hospital-based nursing role. A lot of public health is office-based work. Good luck! I hope you find something that makes you happy.
  9. Hey everyone! I am VERY excited about this program! My top choices are ED, Neuro/Trauma ICU, and Cardiothoracic ICU. Does anyone have any info about the residency other than what is posted on the website? I'm not sure if there was an info session or anything, but would love it if any additional info could be shared on this thread :)
  10. Since I only applied to CSULB, I am taking it! It seems to be shorter than most other programs, which I think of as a huge advantage. The classes are taught in chunks of a few weeks, rather than quarters or semesters. I really like this, since I get SO tired of classes dragging out at the end of a semester. Does anyone know where the classes are taught? I need to look for a place to live!
  11. I'm in too! Woo! So good to hear that everyone is getting good news :)
  12. Thanks so much for the info @jaytphan! I'm sure glad they're sticking with the 3 year program. You just made my day! Back to waiting...
  13. It's good to hear I am not alone with the anticipation and uncertainty! The old brochure said we would be contacted "about two weeks after the deadline" if they wanted to call us in for an interview. Since @siberiantiger says they didn't have interviews, I feel a little better about not being contacted yet. @jcsong, I've been wondering about the program length too. When I first looked into CSULB, it looked like they were going to do the 16 month RN and 18 month NP. The brochure changed to say it was going to be longer, but somewhere else still had it as 16/18. When I went in to take my TEAS, -------------- said they were thinking of making it longer, cause it was hard on some of the students. This makes me ANGRY, since I was applying here in a big part for the short length of the program! I feel hopeful that the 2016 info says that they are going to be on a 16/18 schedule though. I was really counting on learning about the program at the information session...I can't believe they never had one! Well, back to waiting I suppose...
  14. Do you have the TEAS study guide from ATI? I got that with 2 online practice tests. I did one before taking the test or studying, then figured out what areas I needed to work on. After reading through some of the stuff, I did one of the written practice tests (but still timed myself) and did a ton better. I think it was sort of nerve-racking for me to see an instant "correct/wrong" after answering each question. The one page I remember cramming in the parking lot before the test was the parts of a cell. We didn't have to memorize that in depth for anatomy, so I just found a way to remember each part and the basics about it. I think there were about 3 questions on my test about cell parts, so it worked out well for me! Is there a particular section that you struggled on last time you took the test? Did you feel like you knew material then found out you got answers wrong?
  15. Are you sure that is how they are calculating the scores? I saw something on the website a few months ago (not there anymore) that showed them giving certain values to ranges. Either way, it should be pretty close. I got 89.3% on the TEAS, which gives me a 9.49 score for LB. I don't know anyone else applying, so I'm not sure what the competition is like. Does anyone know if they changed the program to be 24 months before we can get our RNs? It used to be something like 65 weeks, but something I just read said it is 24 months now. I do NOT like the sounds of that!
  16. how are you calculating your score?
  17. You need to send in official scores. Anyone could edit their own printout I think it's like $20 through the ATI website.
  18. My healthcare experience is VERY limited too! I worked at a veterinary clinic in high school (not people, but we did surgeries and gave shots and meds and all that), and I've been volunteering at Loma Linda Children's Hospital since 2007. The volunteering is completely just playing games with kids. We aren't allowed to do anything that would be the least big medical with them. I think I know what you're saying though. In my prereq classes, it seemed like half the people in them already work in the medical field or their parents, etc. did. It was frustrating sometimes, cause teachers would assume we knew certain things because "most" students had experience. Maybe the ELM program is a little more forgiving and understands that we are coming from non-nursing backgrounds. That would be great! I'm so glad to have found this site though. It seems like a good place to get info on ANYTHING nursing related and connect with people on whatever issues are out there.
  19. The TEAS was sort of stressful for me. I am usually good at standardized tests, but I had to stay at my bf's house to be able to get there on time in the morning (since I live in Redlands), and then I was nervous about finding where I was going and being late and not sleeping well and AHH! I think I over-caffeinated myself, and ended up waiting almost 45 minutes to get in to take the test. Once I was there, it was totally a relaxed environment. We were allowed to leave the room for breaks and whatever, and the "feel" in the room wasn't stressful at all. Anyway, so I screwed up one of the math problems and started to panic a little, but at least got through all (but didn't have time to recheck my answer on one) of the problems. I ended up with an 89.3% overall and 90% on math (darn math problem!), which was better than I did on the practice tests. I was super happy with my score until I saw that last group's average was 89.4%! The results said I was in the 98th percentile, so I can at least feel great about that :) Do you have the version V study guide? I took one of the online tests and 1.5 of the practice tests in the back of the book. The thing that helped me most was taking the practice tests and really understanding the material I got wrong. Science was the hardest section for me, since it is all just memorizing. Some of the reading was hard for me to figure out too. Deciding if something is a "simple sentence" or if a sentence is a summary or topic sentence is something I had NEVER had to do, so I think of it as something specific I had to learn just to take the TEAS. Since I hadn't taken any other version, I don't know how much harder version V is compared with previous ones. Just go into the test being confident that you will do well, and remind yourself how prepared you are during the test. It might sound silly, but it helps to keep you in a good mindset to do well! Good luck!
  20. I took my TEAS there last week and the admissions lady said they are still waiting for a date for an info session, but she will post it on the website right away. I'm looking forward to it!
  21. Hey everyone! So glad I found this group! I sent in my application for CSULB yesterday, since they JUST found out they're having the ELM program...cutting it a little close there. Where else is everyone applying? What interested you about the program at Long Beach? I didn't have enough pre-reqs to apply anywhere else, but LB is my top choice anyway. The way they only have classes for a few weeks is so appealing to me. For my undergrad (BS Cartography from Ohio University) we were on quarters, so classes were 10 weeks long. The 18 weeks at Crafton/Valley are KILLING me! I am going for a NP too, so it makes sense to go through an ELM program where I can actually do that. Speaking of community college...are you guys in school full time for pre-reqs, or are you working and going to school part time? I'm working full time and have taken 1-2 classes/semester. It's kind of drawn out my pre-req time, and now I am a little worried about how much from these classes I'll need to know going into nursing school. My anatomy class was so painfully easy that I didn't have to study and got an A. This isn't what I've heard from some other people, but they also say that a lot of people will probably have forgotten stuff from pre-reqs. I have so much to say...so many questions!
