  1. @nurse2033 Thank you very much, the AF won't accept me because I have a celtic knot on my neck, but I'll look into it in the Army!
  2. Thanks. I have a BS in Biology emphasis in Neuroscience already, and I will graduate with my BSN in May 2013. I was considering enlisted for the different schools, and honestly because as naive as this is I want to experience combat, not just staying on a FOB, or CSH. I actually really want to be a flight medic, and seeing as now a days to go active duty they want 2 years of experience I was thinking maybe I could go in as a flight medic, and after 2 years go CO. But I keep being told different things so I don't know if this would even be possible.
  3. My good friend is in the ARMY, he's getting out in May because he says he hates the way it's changing. That the ARMY is treating good soldiers poorly, overly punishing minor infractions, and just in general not keeping consistencies. He keeps trying to tell me not to go in, but I also have been told that AMEDD is different from being a normal soldier. He's an 11B, E-5, and really hasn't had much contact with the medical field. I wanted to know if the Nurses that are in are feeling that the ARMY isn't treating them right? Or if there are new changes that are causing people who had thought they were lifers to get out. ALSO: I was speaking briefly to a recruiter who said I could go enlisted or CO. But I haven't found ANY information about going enlisted. I was wondering if anyone had any more information of this option.
  4. I am graduating from nursing school this May and looking to get into either the Air Force or the Navy. I was wondering if you had any incite into the major differences. Also I don't want to stay and do the standard nursing in a standard hospital, I understand I have to pay my dues but and was wondering how one would become a part of a FRSS. One of my good friends was a corpsman, just got out after serving 6 years and says he thinks it's what I'd love. I'm really just starting looking into all of this, I just feel like I want to do more for my country and the soldiers who serve it. Any input would be greatly appreciated I feel very naive and when reading a lot of these posts it almost feels like they are in a different language. I want to try to get an accurate picture of what I'd be signing up for.
  5. I am currently in Nursing school and will graduate with my BS in May of this year. I have been looking into joining the military but am very unsure which branch is right for me. I have found that most sign on bonuses, commitments and such are about the same. So I am looking for the major differences. Obviously the recruiters I have talked too all think their branch is the best so I was wondering if anyone has maybe had experiences in different branches and can first hand tell me the pluses and cons. 1. Do nurses get any input on where they deploy if they are in the navy. I'd prefer not to stay on a ship but instead on land? 2. I have also heard that being a nurse in the military is very much like civilian nursing if you're not deployed. That they don't do normal hours, ruck marches, pt, and don't get a lot of the same training as other regular military members is that true? 3. I also heard that nurses basically just stay on the FAB while deployed and do not participate in patrols, is this true for all of the branches? 4. Which branch would provide me with the greatest chance of being able to be a flight nurse? I know it's very competitive but that's what I'm really looking forward to most. 5. It may sound very naive of me to say this but I want to deploy. I have worked in a civilian hospital but I'd rather work on soldiers who are in combat, to help save them. They are right in the action, risking their lives, they often don't get the thanks they deserve and aren't appreciated enough. I want to make a difference in their lives, and help care for these individuals who risk their lives for our country. Which branches would give me the best opportunity for this? 6. I want to be more than "just a nurse", are other things nurses can get into? I know there is flight nursing which really interests me, but considering how intense it is and I will be going in as a new grad are there other areas I might be able to get into sooner?
