That's good advice, and yes it's annoying when an ER nurse leaves all kinds of orders for me to do. I appreciate your words, I'm fighting to make it to a year.

How long did you wind up staying there? I'm in a similar situation but not with all charges. Some are excellent. After about 9 months I plan to leave. Curious to know what you did.

Well I didn't get that ER SPOT but I did get a Tele job. I also work for a registry and nearing my year. I still want the Er or ICU seems more interesting now. Anyone else have ideas?

Question Question, for you seasoned nurses. I currently have two jobs. One working on a acute care Med Surg floor in a hospital 75 miles from home. I also work nights so getting home is a chore. I have almost had at least a handful of accidents. I also have fallen asleep in traffic. Most times I have to fight to stay awake. The work environment is quite hostile but overall I like my job and the experience is great. Were also short staffed and often go over ratios, and many people want out, it's just not a good environment. People are exiting right and left. My other job is at a nursing registry with diverse positions close to home. I enjoy these jobs and I'm learning tons, and the pay is great. Next week my surgery DOC is teaching me conscious sedation, very excited. My question is would it be bad to quit the long commute job and stay at the registry? I am almost to a year and plan on keeping the registry even after I land a job near home that I love. I know the nursing path is quite diverse and I'm trying to paint my own history. I would like to be a diverse nurse with more than med surg experience. Any ideas????

How are things going now? I'm also a new nurse on Med Surg and start on Tuesday. Hope things are slightly better.

Cool! Good luck, keep me posted. Was NICU your first choice? It was mine but I interviewed at a NICU earlier this year. I believe 2-3 weeks. I'm waiting on the HR process, you know that can be long.

Hi All, Thank you for your advice. I wound up not taking the SNF job but was holding out for the acute care job. After 5 interviews and 10 months after passing boards. I got the call the same day as my last interview. Of course I tweaked my interview attitude but God was on my side all the way! I'm elated.

I GOT A JOB! Thank you. You're right, every new grad should just keep applying because the right job could be around the corner. After 5 interviews in 10 months I finally got an offer the same day. Life is good. Thx u God!

I have an interview here and need advice. Anything fellow nurses?

Hi nurses, So Monday I have an interview on a Med Surg unit in Stockton. This is an 1 1/2 from my house and I don't mind. I've interviewed in another department there before and was turned down for someone with more experience. I also interviewed at a 3 other hospitals. I didnt get one because the other candidate according to the NM had more passion. I'm starting to think either my résumé sucks or they're looking for something else in interviews. I graduated in Nov 2012, and haven't landed a job yet. I have my BSN, ACLS,PALS,EKG CERT. I have 11 years healthcare background from Kaiser. I am personable and friendly in interviews, I've had my résumé looked over by nurse managers, I've gotten feedback from nurse managers and still no job. I would really love this position, it's in med surg and I can develop my time management skills among other things. How can I show the manager I really want this job?Please help me, Im getting desperate!

Me too! Although HR told me that the ER is not hiring. He also said some departments can wait till the end of the month to interview. Good luck to everyone. If I hear anything else I will post. If anyone gets an interview please post so we can stay abreast.

I'm having the same problem. I graduated in Nov 2012 and can't land a job. You have to keep applying. I've had an interview but another applicant was chosen, and this is the job I went to drop off my résumé with NM. I think you have to keep evolving your résumé and being flexible. Great experience and certs but these days a lot of us have BSN's, PALS, ACLS, and still unemployed. Good luck! Persistence is the key. Today a recruiter called me to apply for a job he thought I would be good. This is because I've been contacting recruiters and NM amidst a bad market. It's turning around finally!

Congrats to you. I agree you can't freak out and taking a review class helps. I signed up for Kaplan and took the boards two weeks later. It's a good feeling when u see your RN card. Now good luck with your job search.
