I work on a Cardiac Step Down unit and we pull pacer wires all of the time. I think it just depends if RN's are adequately trained and the hospital's policy. If we run into any resistance pulling or they have been in a long time or the patient is a risk for bleeding we will cut. Haven't had any issues so far.

We use Braun at our hospital They are pretty user friendly. They are small and compact so you can stack them pretty easily. They do seem to beep a lot though.

I have no plans to stay in WV. I originally was going to go back to Colorado but thought I'd give the travel nursing thing a shot!

Hell All, I am new to travel nursing and looking at starting in the next month or so. I have 1 year experience at a very busy teaching hospital on a trauma med/surg unit. I know there is a great debate regarding having more than 1 year experience. I have already been talking to an agency and actually had one interview already that I turned down because I didn't think it was a good fit. I do feel confident in my skills and have had the opportunity to see and do a lot of things that nurses who have been working 5 years say they haven't done yet. I currently rent an apartment and trying to coordinate a start date where I can sublet it and have enough time to give my two weeks where I am at. I guess I am trying to get input if people have traveled with around 1 year experience and how did the transition into traveling go! I am excited about the traveling idea but extremely nervous as well. Thanks!!

I too am looking at travel nursing. I just had my first interview and turned it down because it didn't seem like a good fit. I started out extremely excited about traveling and did my research now trying to juggle subletting my current apartment and putting in my two weeks it's getting nuts and I am having doubts. I also have a dog and my travel agency said finding pet friendly is usually no big deal. I think after you get your first assignment it gets easier, but being new to traveling it seems pretty daunting!

Inappropriate conversations and excessive cussing. It drives me crazy on my unit the types of conversations people have at the nurses station and they are not quiet about it where you know patients and their families can hear. News flash no one wants to hear about how drunk you got the other night, your sex life or the fight you got in with your boyfriend. Your in a professional setting save it for when you are not a work.

I am a Colorado native. There are plenty of areas in the Denver area that are outside of the city that are more affordable and close to downtown. Depending where in the Denver are you or your husband works the surrounding areas like Thornton, Westminster, Aurora (certain parts can be dicey so be careful) and Lakewood are a little bit more affordable. Depending how far you want to commute there are many opportunities. As for the job market as a nurse I am in the same boat. I will be graduating in August, went to school out of state, and I am looking to return back to good old Colorado. The University of Colorado has their main medical campus in Aurora as well as surrounding hospitals they have bought out. It is competitive to get into as a new grad but they do have a New Grad Residency Program that starts a couple of times a year. Good luck!

I am in a second degree nursing program and will be done in August. Yay! Yet I am still ambivalent about finding a job. I am originally from Colorado but I am nursing school in West Virginia so i am also trying to figure out where I will be moving. The plan was wherever I get a job! Everyone says to apply early, but so far all the jobs I have applied to will not accept new grads. Anyone want to share their thoughts about finding their first job before or shortly after graduating?
