  1. wow, its been 5 years since my original post. i currently work in a private oncology practice for the past year and a half. before this, i did home care for 2 years. oncology is where i think i will be for a while; i work in the infusion room for 2 doctors and the staff that i work with are super supportive, we respect each other (except for 1 doctor), and work well as a team. i currently plan to get my oncology nurse certification by early next year. based on my past experiences; a good nursing job isn't just being in a cool specialty or a big hospital with huge benefits. what counts in the long run are liking the patients you treat and the people who work with you. maybe you can say this about other jobs (or maybe not judging by what my friends do); no pain no gain.... it gets better at year 2...,.=)
  2. what is OASIS? whats there to know about being a home health nurse? i have a total of 2 years clinical experience in pediatrics and im looking for a change; something outside the hospital.
  3. well its not only the shift changes i dont like, its the dynamics of how some of the nurses interact with each other and other ancillary staff. i worked at another hospital during my nursing school days, and the staff interaction there was like night and day compared to this hospital now. and in my 6 months working there, i saw 3 nurses leave. there is obviously a high turn around in this unit. i'll def take your advice, stick it out for at least 5 more months. and i will change my schedule so i won't have to work 3 days in a row and be stressed out on the third day. as far as other options, im def going to look into a job at a health department as a community health nurse, which is where i did my senior practicum as a nsg student. but what i know for sure, i will apply for grad school in informatics by next spring. ....until then, i will hold my breath and see how it goes at this place.
  4. 7 months out of school, and 6 months of working. i hate my job, and not too crazy about being a nurse. im 22 years old, single, no previous degree, first full time job was a nurse. i dont like working nights and weekends and 12 hour shifts. been thinking....what should i do? get a job at a clinic or go back to school for a masters in informatics?
  5. in any hospital setting, you will def. see your share of vomit, blood, poop, and pee. actually, i think you will see all of the above in EVERY setting as a nurse, it just varies in the amount of vomit, blood, poop, pee you will see in different settings. if you dont like seeing this or cleaning it up, don't be a nurse. at some point in your nursing career, even during clinicals in nursing school, you will see alot of this stuff. human bodily excretions, it still grosses me out.
  6. bec. im a new nurse and since im still on orientation i don't get the option of overtime with a fourth day of work. and i feel i have too much free time in the week, so i might as well work.
  7. can we work as a CNA part-time and an RN fulltime? i've heard that it is illegal, but I'm not sure.
  8. $23/hr is what i hear most of my friends, also with bsn, are getting in the baltimore area. i based my first job selection on where i feel would expose me to the most interesting and challenging patient cases, in a big urban teaching hospital, that is also right across the street from my nursing school, so i knew the area already.
