Has anyone taken extra courses to obtain an emergency or trauma nursing certificate? I work in an ER in Canada and am wondering opinions on courses. Which are beneficial to have?

The docs in the ED I work at have been great! I am still fairly new in the dept and whenever I work with a new doc the first thing they do is introduce themselves to me. They are very approachable and nothing like the docs I worked with at my previous workplace!

I am 29. I have been a registered nurse for 3 years. Yes I have personally experienced violence against me. I am somewhat satisfied with how my employer handles reports of violence.

Thank you! I am very nervous. It is tomorrow.. I don't even know if I want to work there yet. Never thought of myself as a ER nurse but the idea does exite me.

Thank you for your response. I have been an RN for three years but no ER experience. I have done nursing home and clinic nursing so I am kind of out of my element. I am definitely a team player so that's a plus! Ready for a change and to broaden my nursing skills/knowledge.

I have an interview for an ER position next week. I am looking for any tips or advice.. what type of questions were you asked at your ER interview?

A patient's family member told me I should be a kindergarten teacher instead of an RN. They were very difficult to deal with and I had to try and often smooth over family dynamics. I don't know why it bothered me so much but it did.

I work in Ltc and we put s/c sets in when we have a palliative resident. Saves them from being poked every half hour. It is not invasive. It takes less than a minute to insert.

I am an RN in Ltc in canada and we administer dilaudid q1h and midazolam q30min both s/c for palliative care. I would never give anyone narcan at end of life. Our goal is for a comfortable pain free death.

I work in Ontario Canada. I am an RN in long term care. I make 30.94 $/hour and have been there for eight months. I get 1 $/hr extra for nights, weekends and when i am the charge nurse which is every shift.

I know many many RNs who did not work as a psw during school or at all and also obtained jobs right out of school. Its not luck, its called hard work.

I got a full time job right out of school and i am a BScN RN. I do not have a psw certificate but i worked as one while in nursing school. You cannot assume you know how all hospitals and long term care facilities in Ontario hire. This thread is ridiculous.

I am an RN in LTC and i am almost always at work late. Usually half hour to an hour late. Cant control when someone dies or falls ten mins before the shift ends. Although i wish we could! Haha. I always like to follow through with all my incidents before passing the buck to the next shift.
