NRSE 4530 Family Nursing-Summer 2013...role call
Thanks for your hints, e31056. That's kind of what I thought, unfortunately.... I used to be decent in math but that was a LONG time ago. Also I know of someone who had to take this class 3 times! Intimidates me! At least a C for this is passing, right. Doesn't require a B like nursing classes, I believe I heard. Fortunately, I can do proctored exams at my hospital library. Me2006, I am not starting stats til the end of August, not July 1. If you have any good info to pass on I'd love to hear it. No grades on mine yet. Best wishes to everyone!

I'm taking this class now also. Surprised to find it up a couple days ago! Hopefully this is a good sign! Does anyone know what "alignment" means under each assignment? Found it under tools: grading, along with rubrics. Never saw it laid out this way and when you click on it, there is nothing there at this time. Just curious.

Statistics outside OU?
Which prof did you have, koolmaditz? Wondering if there is a big difference...

Statistics outside OU?
You are the first to say you actually enjoyed the class! Thanks! Which professor did you have? Any helpful hints? Trying to decide what / when to take. I did decent in math but that was YEARS ago... Quite intimidated by this as I have heard of a few people failing! Thanks!

I am trying to decide when to take statistics. Am somewhat intimidated about the 5 week class thru OU but not willing to do locally for a full semester. Have read comments on here. Any more input? How about which professor? Have seen high recommendations for ******. What about ***** or *******? Only classes with ******* and ******** are available next few sessions. Should I wait for ******* although thus far uncertain if she will be available in fall. No one can tell me when fall classes will be listed. Has anyone had one of those instructors? Helpful hints? Also, anyone know anything about global health? Debating it. Thanks!

Is this what you are asking for? I think this is what I will follow unless someone has other suggestions... In addition, write two priority community health nursing diagnoses. Use the correct format for your diagnoses: Problem, Etiology, Signs/Symptoms Formatting would be: Problem related to the etiology as evidenced by the signs/symptoms. For example: Risks of asthma complications among children in a southeast Ohio County related to poor air quality, overcrowded living conditions, inability to access health care, high number of animals living in homes, lack of knowledge regarding treatment options, and lack of access to medications.

FYI, announcement from our TA: "No Quizzes in this course – Disregard the syllabus where it states talks about quizzes. There are no quizzes! Tracking tool and NO clinical hours: It is not necessary to track your work as per the week 1 discussion points from instructors an there is NO clinical hours. This has been deleted from course."

The safe assign isn't a big deal. Just browse, upload, check the box and that's it. It goes through your paper and checks for matches with other submitted papers across the country and resources to some degree. It will give you a "matched" percentage. But sometimes it's ridiculous what it says matches like titles, headers, same text books, etc. that obviously everyone is using. I saw the discrepancy, too, with the syllabus and quizzes. I looked through the whole course, the grading tool, etc. found no where to take or score quizzes. I agree with the theory that syllabus is out of date...again! Let's hope the course goes better than it has started (for many of you). Guess I was lucky this time.

On most of my courses I got an evaluation link either in course announcements or in email to fill in. I took Health Promotion and Leadership last fall. Oh my... they were both tough in my opinion. Now, maybe it was because it was the first time each were offered as the combined courses that they now are but both were very unorganized. Worse two that I have taken. I did comment extensively as I believe others did; hopefully that will help improve them. The quizzes in leadership were so bad that they gave full credit if you just took them by the time requested! (Info asked on quizzes was not covered in assignments, etc.) I wonder if they are now going away from a lot of those quizzes, not sure, but had no quizzes in gerontology. I think I will take family or global health in May. Anyone take that Global Health yet? It fulfills the cross culture requirement.

On another note, just curious, what's everyone's experience with course evaluations? Once again, it appears that I haven't gotten an evaluation to fill out for my most recent class. Do they not request them anymore? Have had a couple classes that I wanted to give feedback as it was desperately needed. This class (gerontology) actually was pretty decent. Not a lot of confusion, etc. Better organized than the last two I took, although for some reason they changed week 1's assignment on like day 2 or 3 which was a bit odd. Was real glad I hadn't started on it yet!

It is not up for me yet on Blackboard. Seems it often has been Sunday afternoon before I have seen them come up. Hopefully it will be available today since I have time to work on it... A friend of mine took it a couple of sessions ago. The reading for week 1 was chapters 1,2,3 & 5 out of the text book. I read all but 5 already. Ready to get started, been on a roll, may as well use the momentum!

I truly admire those of you who are able to take more than one class at a time. I don't think there is anyway I could do two of these classes at once! Maybe I just spend to much time and effort on them, (I think that is the "older" student in me!) but WOW! But I do have a question: Did anyone take the stats class on-line? I haven't taken it yet and am really intimidated by it. Although I used to be fairly good in math, if you don't use it you loose, right? Tell me your experiences, please. Have even looked at taking it in a classroom at nearby colleges but just frustrated - don't want a 16 week, 2 nights a week class when I could suck it up and be done in 5! I also think I saw a reference to one professor being awesome, maybe Karadogan? But I don't see that prof listed for next few times it is offered, just Lassiter and McCarthy, I think. Thoughts, please?

Gerontology Spring 2013
Grades back for week 4: I did not get any deduction of points for the manner in which I cited it (as above). Also, did not loose any points for stating "information obtained from personal communication with [initials of person interviewed], January 28, 2013" one time for entire document. Remember personal communication needs cited but does NOT go in reference list. BTW I most often referred to person I interviewed with initials, occasionally patient. Hmmm...wonder if I should change to client? Although, being an "old" nurse I still have issues with client vs patient... So far I haven't been dinged in any papers for using patient.

Gerontology Spring 2013
I have just been citing the text book for the assessments. Brief Assessment of Spiritual Resources and Concerns (Touhy & Jett, 2010, p. 91) for example. So far, I haven't lost points doing it this way. Waiting on week 4 paper grade though. Do you want all of the info at the bottom of the assessment? I haven't listed it that way but will if you want. Good luck!

Gerontology Spring 2013
Anyone working on final week 5 paper? There is NO way mine is going to be 3-5 pages! I haven't done my second nursing dx yet and I think I am around 8 pages! How are we supposed to include all the elements they want: intro, clients strengths and weaknesses', needs, review each assessment and the nursing care plan elements w/ references AND use headers and do only 5 pages of body? I realize that doesn't include title or reference pages. Also, how are you doing care plan? Right now I have it with headers and subheaders (3 levels, actually) using bullets to do interventions. Or use as a table? Comments, anyone???
