How stressful and rewarding is working in any intensive care unit?
I'm definitely keeping my mind open about all possible options and that's what I've been telling my friends. I would love to do ICU and be exposed to challenging situations but I don't really know until I experience it. I really appreciate the helpful advice guys. And hospitals that don't hire LPNs anymore that's total news to me that I never thought about and nobody in my school ever told us about it, makes me more cautious choosing my path because now I have more info. I really really appreciate all the advice and I really love this forum already!

How stressful and rewarding is working in any intensive care unit?
Now that was some helpful piece of information. I have to admit that I'm shocked a little bit about new grads struggling to get a job. 10 months to 2 years! Wow... I guess I was misled to believe there is a job for every nursing graduate.. Sorry about asking a lot of questions but I'm very methodical and I believe in being prepared and knowing what to expect. I appreciate you reading my posts and providing all this good info. As you might noticed from what I posted I'm headed to this path:Finishing my pre-reqs by next spring, doing a 6 week apprenticeship to prepare for clinicals in a local hospital, starting clinical rotations fall 2013, sit for lpn license by 3rd semester and hopefully get a job while continuing towards Rn graduation, then of course rn-bsn and acquiring enough experience to apply for a good Masters program ( hopefully CRNA or NP). I fully realize it's a long shot but I'm very excited and accepting the challenge! Thanks!

Travel nursing, is it worth it?
Thank you so much, I didn't realize you could travel within the state, that was definitely helpful.

Travel nursing, is it worth it?
I always wondered if travel nursing is worth it to do as a career or is it better to only do it for few years to save some money, visit new places, and get experience. Is it worth it for people with kids and how they do with their schooling or they just leave and stay gone to make a living.. I'm considering all those factors before I decide if it's something for me or not

LPN starting salary for new grads Columbia, SC
Hi, I'm going for my ADN at Midlands tech in Columbia, SC and we have the option to sit for LPN license by the end of the 3rd semester, so I was wondering what are the starting wages for new grads with no relative experience if I decide to get a job while finishing my last 2 semesters. Is the pay different in hospitals and nursing homes? Which is better to start a nursing career? In hospitals how much autonomy LPNs have? Do employers work with your schedule? Do they acknowledge your academic progress when you become an RN? Is the transit inion systemic or they give you award time.I realize it's a lot of questions and anybody who can answer any of these or just join the conversation will be appreciated.

Columbia SC Hospitals??
I'm a pre-nursing student and starting my clinically fall 2013. Anybody knows if the starting wages for new grads and differentials are still the same in the columbia, SC area? Also seeking some advice about which hospital should I go with, I'm interested in critical care while working on my RN-BSN.Also considering applying for Providence apprenticeship summer program. It's 6 weeks but wondering how much they pay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.P.S: VA isn't an option since I'm not a citizen. Thanks
