Temple College 2015
That is a mean joke! I'm so sorry! Don't give up hope. My friend was alternate number 11 and she started right on time with me. She got a phone call 2 weeks before school started. She was so bummed thinking it was impossible since she was #11. Apparently there are many people (minus the bridgers who apply) that don't get clearance for one reason or another from the board, so the school uses alot of the alternates to replace those people. So, do what the letter says and get clearance from the board, and turn in all the required things so that if someone loses a spot, u will have your stuff already turned in and dan take that spot!

Alternates have a shot! Last year, a friend of mine was alternate #11, and she just graduated with me last week! :)
-
Temple College 2015
Yes they do. My best friend got that awful email twice now.
-
Temple College 2015
Last year, they emailed alternates first, then denials the next day. And the day they emailed denials, they mailed acceptance letters

I think today is the day! I keep checking my fb page and here to see if anyone has checked yet. On my time hop app, this day last year people started getting their denial emails.

There are a number of people with tablets and laptops. However, u don't really need one, as the notes are in the packets u have to buy for each class OR they are put on d2l for u to print.. and there is room to write your own notes to the side. :) Nobody had the e-books.. u flip around in the books so much, it would be kinda hard to keep up... plus I mark important tables in the books with sticky pads so they are easy to refer to. Andddd when the there are open book quizzes, u are only allowed to use ur handwritten notes and book, no electronics.

I am just gonna start off by saying, my goodness it has been the longest, slowest year of my life. I cannot complain about anything in particular, although I feel as if I have neglected and forgotten my family and friends. The times you are not in school, you are studying. Nursing school in general is hard. I have been an LVN for 7 years, and I thought that would make this year a piece of cake. Boy was I wrong. I will say that the grading criteria is ridiculous. If you are going in with a 4.0 like I did, don't expect to have it long. The TC program considers an A 94-100, B 85-93, C 75-84 and a FAIL if you get below a 75. And if you fail a class, you do not get to go on, you have to wait till the following year to come back for that class THEN proceed. You guys will soon find out that some of the teachers there are VERY VERY by the book and follow the nursing rules and regs to a HIGH standard, not saying that is a bad thing, but sometimes can be very stressful. For the most part, the majority of the staff are good! Especially in clinicals, they really know their stuff. Theres a few that MAY need to relearn how to communicate with students without making them feel dumb, but you guys will figure out who I mean pretty quickly. The program is very busy, it is very fast paced, and you have a LOT of work to do, BUT it is possible. You just have to repeat over and over to your brain that this will not be forever, and that you are going to miss out on your family the entire time you are in school. There will be times you question why you ever dreamed of going to school, and I promise you, THAT IS NORMAL!!! Just visualize the end results, and you guys will do amazing. The biggest thing I need to stress is to sit your families down, explain you will be MIA for 2 years, and remind them frequently that you will not have time to do the things you are accustomed to. Sometimes I studied from the time I came home from school, till it was bedtime. Please understand I am not saying this to scare you! I think you guys deserve this, and I KNOW you will all be awesome. I just want to let you guys know ahead of time so that when you get stressed out, you will remember that I reminded you that the stress WOULD come, and make you think of the finish line. Someone told me this before I started school, and I thought I could handle it. Then right around Christmas break, I was to my breaking point, and wondered why I thought it was a good idea to go back. I remember that she told me to think of the finish line, so I did. Time seems so slow, but it will be over before you know it. Other than that, I cannot WAIT to hear your good news! Start practicing your positive affirmations now. lol "Its only 2 years. Then you have FOREVER to reap the benefits that 2 measly years gave you." repeat that!

Nurses, no matter what kind, are in high demand wherever you are. Sure, some hospitals prefer BSNs, but i never had an issue getting a job as an LVN, and i have already been offered a job as an ADN, and i havent even graduated yet. I have never had an issue getting a job.

And im not sure about the hesi. Its the same test everywhere, but im guessing since u have to pay for it at the different colleges, that would be the only one they would accept. Im not 100% certain though.

TC only does it once a year due to staffing. They only have enough staff to cover the freshman and the sophomores. We have limited space as is, we have to split our class into 2 groups due to limited space. If they had admissions twice a year like the others, we'd have no space, and not enough teachers.

Sure thing Lisa! Ok, so, TC does admission once a year. They usually accept around 60-65 students. I know one of my instructors said my class was one of the biggest, and my class started with 65. Our class now has 82, but thats because us bridgers joined the traditional students last June. Each instructor gets about 12-15 students for their clinical group. Usually we are each assigned a different nurse, but sometimes 2 of us get one nurse. And we also get sent to different areas frequently, like day surgery, PACU, etc. No, everyone has to be there at 6:45. If you are going to be more than an hour late to clinical, you cant come at all, and you lose hours for the whole day. You are only allowed to miss about 20-24 hours PER SEMESTER, and once you go over that, you are out of the program. Even Friday clinicals the 2nd year start at 6:45. We have about 10 guys in our class! In my LVN class there were only 2, so guys are becoming more interested in nursing! Tell him he should consider it!! Hope this helps!!! Summer

Found out for sure that Friday clinicals are for the second year only. I just asked a freshman student on FB, and scratch the 1st year schedule I gave you. The freshman (as of this semester) follow the same schedule as the sophomore students, but no Friday clinicals So its: Mon: 6:45- 11:30 clinical class from 1-3 or 4 **this is our MY last semester, and they changed the hours to 3 right now, and I am guessing it is going to stay that way for everybody) Tue: 6:45- 3 Wednesday 8-3 Thursday 8-3 Friday: no school, until your 2nd year in which u can do 12 hour clinicals Sorry it is so confusing. They have switched everything twice since I started last June. But I guess this new change is "official."

I know our 12 hour group goes to the continuing care hospital off kegley rd in temple. Ill get back to you for sure on the clinical stuff monday!! Lisa, I am in the ADN program right now. My class is pretty diverse. The youngest person is 19, and the oldest is 40ish. Most of us are 25-30 though. The first year and most of the second year are the same. Its full time monday thur thursday.. mon & tuesday are clinical days from 6:45 to 4, BUT the last year, you have class monday afternoon from 1-4 and clinical monday morning, instead of all day clinical on mondays. However, some people do 12 hour friday clinicals, and they have monday MORNINGS off but have to come to Monday class... and they are off all day tuesday. Wednesdays and thursdays are all day class from 8 to 3. Unless u have friday clinical, u are off Fridays... and although it says "students are subject blah blah" there are no weekend or evening classes. And no, they dont take into consideration that u have a family. Lol if u miss, u miss hours. And you are only allowed to miss about 20-24 hours a semester, or you get kicked from the program. Hope this helps!! Summer

Temple College 2015
Hey all!! Sorry I have been MIA. I didnt get nearly enough time "off" that I was hoping for. I worked ALMOST every day of my 6 week break. And while it was nice for my paycheck, it really wore me down! EEE!! I know you guys are excited about getting letters soon. I actually have a "magic" number for you, as I was making casual conversation with the aide at school yesterday. He said there were *about* 175 applicants for the LVN program in Temple this year, which is significantly lower than previous years. SO YAY!! You guys only have a week or 2 of waiting left!!! I am so excited for you all! Geo820! Fingers crossed for you. I am currently in the bridge program, and Ill be graduating in May. I. Cant. Wait!!!! One of my amazing coworkers, Jordan, applied with me last year, and got put on the wait list, and she reapplied this year after retaking a class or 2 and making A's. She has a countdown going, I believe you guys only have about 43 days left to wait! EEE!!! You said you work pedi home health? Thats what I do right now while I am in school! If any of you asked me questions, I am so sorry to have not answered them timely. With work, school, and a sick 2 year old, I barely have time to think anymore. I will be better! And more supportive from today forward! Ill make a mental note to check this often. I am not going to re answer the questions yall asked, cause other people have answered them correctly! Anyway! Keep your head up! The wait is ALMOST OVER!!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow is the day for the bridgers to apply!!! Sucks that no bridgers have found this site yet! Last year it made the waiting game WAY more bearable!
