  1. I do not have the answers, but something has to change-in a big way. While we have to have strict policies and rules(goes w/out saying, of course) the folks in "charge" are lacking in a big way. It appears, from the nurses who report to me, that there seems to be no other than an arbitrary "voting" that happens at a board mtg, often times taking away the livlihood of the head of a household. Well, one may say-"then dont get in trouble" What happened to innocent til proven guilty? Why can their only means of making a living be so easily taken away at the disposal of a group of people, who, I am told, most are not even nurses. Is this true?? One rn said it took more than a year before his case was even heard at a board mtg, then they took away his lic. But for the previous 13 months he worked w/no restrictions, and NO ISSUES. don't get it. Of course u cant have impaired professionals caring for the public, why can they not work in a diff capacity within the facility, then? These people have kids in school, mortgage payments, etc. Something is not right here in any way. I do not see any other profession governed so inappropriately, and so cruelly. This state, if alone in this mess, is in huge disarray.
  2. Deltacrux, take what you need from a blog, and learn to sift through it carefully. I have mentored students for years, and love it. Students are such special kind of 'baby nurses'-not condecsending, just where you are in your career. It is a journey. Realize that your license will give you the legal ability to learn how to be a nurse, you are not one even after passing NCLEX, you have only proven that you have enough healthy brain cells to work with vulnerable people. Nursing is a process, you evolve over time. Please dont ever publicly refer to a dying baby as "circling the drain". I feel that is unprofessional and disgusting. I would terminate an employee if I heard them say that. This career is not about money, or glory, it is about caring for vulnerable people from both ends of our life spectrum. Good luck! It is a wonderful life if you love it----which I dearly do.
  3. Bortaz: I am new to this blog and don't know you, but i have been a nurse for several years and I think that the descriptive words you use in reference to the neonatal intensive care patients are appaling. While in a break room, or at home, you may say something referring to a child's condition, "circling the drain" is something that would be unforgivable if I were the mom or dad of one of your patients. I totally get the need to de-stress, not take too seriously some patients to avoid burnout, etc. I think you need to remember that you are a college educated professional. A "gaggle" "circling the drain" would be cause for dismissal if I was your director, no matter where you said it or who you said it too. You need to re-think why you do what you do. Frankly, it sounds like a 'show off' comment due to the nature of your patients. Human beings with tiny organs, and tiny fingers are babies struggling to live, not a "gaggle" of anything. Shame on you.
  4. I do not know WHAT to do----I thought my "sentence" of 5 years of not working was over---oh no, I had to wait 16 months to even be heard at a meeting, then, I get this stayed revocation consent agreement. I feel like it is a total set up for failure a total set up. Now what? I do not know. Plus most places will not hire you with this on your back. Pls say a little prayer for me. I know so many have it worse. I jst want to take care of myself and get some self esteem back.
