  1. I should also add that during my first semester of school I wasn't working at all, and studied probably more like 20 hours a week minimum, but now I understand the study methods that work best for me.
  2. I work a minimum of 20 hours a week (more if it's not a clinical week or test week), and I probably study 5 hours a week if there isn't a test. Studying a LOT in pre-reqs is smart and necessary, as you're basically required to regurgitate information verbatim on tests. In nursing school, tests are much less "how much nitpicky info do you know" and more "do you know how to prioritize care for this patient." I had classmates that could run circles around me spouting off facts from the book but couldn't answer questions that required critical thinking. They are now a semester behind me. At least 85% of nursing school test questions are critical thinking, so I would recommend getting a good NCLEX book/resource with LOTS of questions. Study your lecture notes about half the time, but make sure you give yourself ample time before tests to just practice test questions.
  3. I just told him we needed to put in a catheter.
  4. I wish we didn't have to wait until the day of classes to have our courses load on Blackboard. I like knowing what I'm in for!
  5. I got skechers (nice low profile shoe that doesn't scream WHITE LEATHER SHOE) from Famous Footwear, but you may want to order them (expedited!). Women's Skechers Dream Come True Wht/Lt.Gry-Wlgy FamousFootwear.com I'm dreading bringing the books to class...they're all enormous!
  6. Thanks so much Katie! I sent an email to the generic Health Education email account asking if I was in good standing (I knew I was but I didn't want there to be anything that kept me from starting!), and I got a reply with only a row of info from a spreadsheet (basically checking off each of our requirements, and the CRMC and Health South quizzes were unchecked). No other form of response like, "You're all set." I was a little worried since I'm submitting my notice this week at work.
  7. During orientation, didn't they say that the CRMC and HealthSouth "quizzes" would be done during the first week of classes? I know we had to complete and turn in the TMH quiz.
  8. I ordered my scrubs the day of orientation and I they were ready for pickup in about 2 weeks.
  9. How is every one doing? 7 weeks!
  10. Congrats nanny2nurse! I already took my CPR class (last week). I'd recommend going through the AHA course as opposed to the Red Cross. $57 vs. $110 for the same certification, and I took it at the Southeastern School of Health Sciences.
  11. I'm applying for Spring '13 as well, and have no backup plan. I've been SO ready to quit my current job, I have no idea what I'm going to do if I don't get in. I originally was planning on going to FSU to do their ABSN program (I already have a BS in Finance...realized that was a mistake *after* graduation!), but they made several changes to the pre-reqs to the program, as well as post-poned admissions until Fall of 2013. I just couldn't wait that long. My pre-req GPA is 3.78 and my HESI score is 98, so I feel pretty good, but until I have that letter, I'm on pins and needles!
