  1. Yes very excited!! And nervous! Ha :)
  2. Thanks for the helpful advice Toy!! I appreciate it. It helps to give me a better idea of how to plan my weekends. I was expecting to hear that the program will pretty much consume my life, so it's not a huge shocker :-)
  3. Thank you, Toy! That was so informative and gives me a better idea of what to prepare for. It seems like a lot of work, but it all expected! All in all, do you find that it isn't an insane amount? Like do you still have a social life at all? What about a part time job? Just curious. But I do expect to not have much of a life outside of nursing school for the next 16 months anyways :-)
  4. Thank you, Lauren!! And you are very welcome! We all know how stressful it can be applying to the nursing program, so it's nice to have any questions answered by others who have gone through the same experience! You will get in!!! :)
  5. Thanks Andi for the new info!! Looking forward to hearing more! I would go to lunch after the meeting tomorrow but I have to get back to work :-/ ugh work problems! I am taking two hours off to go to the meeting though so I'm glad I was able to get that approved at least. See you tomorrow!
  6. I agree, I am doing this for stability and more opportunities in my career, as well as getting to help and nurture others. I am looking forward to the many challenges and new experiences everyday. I am excited to not know what to expect when coming into work each day, because I can for sure say that I am so tired of the monotonous tasks I do 5 days a week at my current desk job. It can drive a person crazy. I know it won't be an easy road to nursing, especially getting through nursing school. But I can say with confidence that if I stay where I'm at- working as a drone in cubicle land- I will go nowhere. I'm not saying everyone feels the same way, because some people I work with love their desk job! I'm just saying everyone has their own dreams and desires for their own lives, and I think it's incredibly awesome that so many of us are working hard to achieve our dreams!! So for ME it is worth the uphill, sometimes bumpy ride to the land we call nursing :-)
  7. LOL!! I have a countdown too! I have one at my desk (hidden) and one on my laptop at home. 52 more days for me :-) We just gotta make it out alive!
  8. I wish I could hit the "quote button" for every response on this thread, thank you for replying EVERYBODY!!!! :) I love allnurses because it is such a strong supportive community, who are all rooting for each other. I read each and every comment, and it seems like everyone has similar exciting feelings about getting in to/being done with nursing school! I am so proud of each of us, and for coming this far already. We all know it can be an uphill battle at times, but we push through. It is so good to know that others can relate, we are not alone!!!! Keep all the great comments/stories comin'!!
  9. Hello out there! I am thrilled to announce I can finally stop stalking the "Pre-Nursing Student" threads and begin the "Nursing Student" thread-stalking. I got my acceptance letter for the Spring 2014 start in a BSN program! I was curious to see if anyone else is currently starting or already started their nursing program after quitting a full time-comfy-living-weekends-and-holidays-off desk job?? I am terrified to leave this cubicle prison that has grown to consume my Monday-Friday life for the past three years, but so incredibly anxious and excited for the day I never have to sit in this chair again. This past year of taking night and online prereqs while day dreaming of becoming a kick-butt-super-nurse has finally paid off. Now I just need to sit quietly at my desk and pretend my life is as ordinary as ever until I can give my notice! In the spirit of Jerry Maguire, "Who's coming with me?"...and what are all your stories? Please share! :)
  10. Wow thanks sooo much for all of this helpful info! It really is nice to get a "feel" for the program, even if it is revised a bit. Makes me all the more excited! I am kind of glad we won't be thrown into clinicals the first semester, I think it may overwhelm newbies like me who don't work in a hospital. I do volunteer at PCH so I have some experience with patients and hospital rooms, but mostly just getting to play with the kiddos...not quite the same working experience that will help with clinicals, but a little. Anyways, to answer some people's questions about whether or not I will be working, I have decided to not work for at least the first semester to gauge how busy my schedule will be. I will be applying for student loans to live off of. Lets hope this government shutdown doesn't affect anything!
  11. I got my acceptance email for SHC!!!!!!! Yay!!!! Congrats to EVERYONE!!!!!! Looks like we all got into our desired programs :) Don't worry Mrs. Bond, you will get in! Let us know! I am so excited ladies and I bet you are all too! Andi and redcellophane- see you at the immunization meeting next week!! Can't wait to meet you both! GPA- 3.39 TEAS- Math: 87.6, Reading: 81 School- Scottsdale Healthcare Previous Bachelors degree- Yes, ASU Psychology No hospital affiliation We all worked so hard and now it is finally paying off! Congrats again to everyone! Nursing school will be even harder, but at least we will be doing what we are so passionate about!
  12. Congrats Laura!!!!! :-) Glad to hear the Tucson letters went out already! I bet you are thrilled! Now I just hope We get ours soon!
  13. Gahhhh!!! I have been checking every 10 minutes it seems! Everytime I get one I get excited and then realize it's just a junk email! Lol I can hardly stand the wait. I really hope we all get in, since it's taking longer than I thought I hope it's not because they are still deciding!
  14. Thanks toy! I sure hope so!!!! I will be refreshing my email every minute tomorrow (a day early) in hopes that we may know sooner than later~
  15. Hey Mandy! Welcome!! We are all biting our nails anxiously awaiting our nursing school fates :) Good luck everyone!
  16. Andi- great idea!!! I second that notion of posting helpful info for any future applicants :-)
  17. Seriously! Haha I have a countdown calendar on my desk at work and I can barely contain my thoughts/jitters of that email we will all get next week! I too have noticed previous semesters getting their letters a day or two early, Mrs.Bond! Haha glad to know I'm not the only thread stalker on here 4 (or maybe less!) dayyyysssss eek
  18. Welcome Marypoppins! I think we have people applying to every hospital on here! Good variety :) Can't wait to get our letters!! 12 dayssss
  19. You are definitely making the night shift sound alot better than day shift! Yeah, I think I won't mind it too much at all if that's the kind of shift I get as an RN fresh out of school. I am actually kind of hoping for it! I agree, the whole getting up at 5 am thing has never been my cup of tea. I am SO not a morning person, so yes, clinicals will be a little interesting to get used to haha. But excited nonetheless! Thanks for the info on the pay re shift differential, I can see how it really adds up in the final paycheck. Gosh I just can't wait either, my nerves are getting to me.......just a little over two weeks ladiessss!!!!!! :)
  20. That's not a bad drive then at all! It takes me about 20 min to get to work in the morning and my job is only 5 miles away... because of heavy traffic and stoplights. So that will be nice to not have that anymore if I get accepted! Besides pursuing my dream and becoming a nurse and loving what I do, working only 3 days a week is one of the top things I am looking forward to! Do you like working the night shift? Is it that much of an adjustment from days? How are your "days/nights" off like? I kind of want to work a night shift for my first RN job, I think it would be a little different, and I hear the pay is a little higher which is always a plus for paying off loans lol. Oh yes, I see your little girl in the pic :) She is adorable! How old is she? I applaud you for being a strong single mom and getting your RN. I'm sure it's not easy, but well worth it in the long run. Maybe she will be a nurse one day too! My dog loooves people. He is a little spazzy though so we would have to have high supervision lol, he is a french bulldog and loves all the attention. Still going through his pup years even though he is four years old lol. Your friend lives super close then to both hospitals, lucky her! Yay we can already form a study group. Can't wait to (hopefully) meet you and everyone else!
  21. Andi- thanks so much for (more) helpful info!! Seriously, I didn't even think about the whole not-hiring-nursing-students-as-cna's/pct's. It makes alot of sense, and I would agree as a hiring manager, because afterall, once a cna who is in nursing school passes the NCLEX and gets an RN job, they are outta there. So I get it. I just wanted to have SOME kind of job while in school- even if just working one day a week. I have been working full time since the beginning of my undergrad 5 years ago, and to think of just living off loans and going to school is a different adjustment for me! I'm glad to get perspective from an SHC employee. That's great you already have an "in" with them, with tuition assistance and possibly getting an RN job upon graduation! That's ideal. How long have you been working for them? And man is that a long drive from where you live!! I guess its all freeway though huh so thats good. I live near Oldtown Scottsdale, a couple miles from the Scottsdale Osborn. I heard there may be some clinicals at that hospital, so I thought that was super close and just seemed really neat. I am always up for study buddies! If we all get in, I say we have weekly or biweekly study sessions :) I do not have kids, but do have a dog.
  22. Hi redcellophane! Welcome back, I remember you posting a little while ago too. What made you decide on GCU coming from out of state? That is great! Which program did you apply for? I too will have to take out student loans to cover tuition and cost of living. I agree that it is well worth it. I think of borrowing thousands upon thousands of dollars plus interest, and I don't fret too much because at least I will be happy with my career while paying it off :)
  23. Welcome, Andiisme! Great to hear all the additional info you are providing us with! Thank you. It is very helpful to get an idea of what is ahead of us. I also applied to SHC! I hope both of us get in!!!! You mentioned you work there, what do you do now? I was thinking of getting a CNA license before school started, to see if I could work for SHC, but it so costly and I don't know if I will even have enough time to work at all while in the nursing program (hello student loans :-( Anywho, I too was wondering what the schedules will be like and how many people applied. So you think around 50 applied? Ahhh if only 30 of us get in.. that means 15 don't.... ahh! I am freaking out. LOL. I have a calendar at my desk and on my computer for Oct. 15th- just counting down the days one at a time. Less than 3 weeks out! Yipee!
  24. Welcome, JaimeQuinata!! My GPA is a 3.39, so not that competitive, and decent TEAS scores but not great, so I am also feeling a little nervous! But you have come to the right place. We will all support each other through this hectic but exciting time :)
  25. My Maricopa transcripts took 4 weeks (gasp!) to go through! It was very frustrating, as I requested them twice. Not sure whose end that fell on but I'm just glad they finally came in. I know what it feels like to be anxious! Glad to hear yours are in safely as well. Thanks for the confirmation of October 15 acceptance date, I too was wondering about the exact date. It is a Tuesday, so I'm wondering if they will go out that exact day.. I'm assuming so now though! Our classes will definitly keep us super busy until then. I'm so nervous! It makes sense to apply for the school which is closest to your house- that's what I'm doing as I live in Scottsdale already so the campus here is less than 10 miles away. My friend just started her program at Banner and she loves it! If I was closer out there I would apply to that one for sure!
