Failed drug screen
Hello, So the biggest nightmare of my life has come true. I tested positive for phentermine on a pre-employment drug screen. I have a old RX for medication and took it a day or so before my UDS not knowing it was an issue or that it would cause me to fail my UDS. I wasn't aware it would be a issue nor that it was a stimulant/ or that it would come up positive. I have an active RX for Adderall, however once you have a positive drug screen the urine is sent for further evaluation to the lab for a confirmatory test. The test came back for phentermine. With a concentration. I don't know what to do. My employer hasn't called me yet.

Felony and nursing?
Don't listen to anyone that says "you cannot become a nurse because you have a felony" I am liven proof that it is possible. I comitted burglary and theft by control when i was 21. I am currently 31. This is what I did and how I went about it. First and foremost, I am a human being and made many mistakes of which I learned from. I was on probation for a year and 1/2. I finished that without any issues. I got a lawyer and had my felonies "set aside" Some states they are dismissed- I believe they are still visible on a BOARD background check regardless of where you live. The main point is, get them set-aside. The only way you will reach this is by not getting in trouble with the law after your offense. Prove that you are making better choices and that you made a mistake. After getting my felony set aside, I was paranoid that I could not sit fit the NCLEX exam or get a RN license, SO i went to school to be a Nursing Assistant, the board of nursing will run the same exact background test and etc. as they would for a RN. After I completed the 1 month course, I faced the board of nursing. They took a sample of my nails for a drug test. Yep, not hair, not urine, nails and when I mean they, it was J2 labs. it came back clean. I actually attended my hearing over the phone. The reason why they took my nails (clippings) is because when I was convicted, I admitted to being under the influence. Anyways, the board of nursing allowed me to become a CNA. That is when I knew I can go to nursing school and will sit for the NCLEX exam next year. It is possible to go to nursing school. It is possible to become a nurse after a bump in the road. It just takes time. You need to call the board of nursing for your state and see what the criteria is. I believe in AZ, you have to wait 5 yrs from the offense date or probation date (termination) until you can get a CNA license or if you have your felony set aside. I will add this, nurses get in trouble all the time and have to face the board. During my hearing, I had to listen to all the other nursing issues prior to mine. Lots of DUIs and stuff like that. The board will not just say- your done because you ****** up. They will give you chances, make you do diversion, etc. Unless you kill someone on purpose or something like that. Good luck and keep me updated

Nursing and felony? Should I even apply for nursing school?
Unfortunately, the college does not do a background test (for there own knowledge) but you are required to have a finger print card...which i have received a year ago...so I am not sure what to do? I also called the board and they basically said that it depends on the case but they did say that chances are higher to get licensed if you have the fingerprint card. I feel like i am stuck in the middle of a hard choice. It's like a 50/50 chance...you know what i mean.

Nursing and felony? Should I even apply for nursing school?
My felony has been set aside and I do have a fingerprint clearance card. I also spoke to an adviser and she said that my felony should not be a barrier to employment because I have a fingerprint card...I guess I am more scared of facing the Board because the police report states that I was on bad drugs during the incident. On top of that police officers like to exaggerate on their police reports and add things that aren't true to make things look worse. I want to thank everyone for your posts as this is such a hard battle for me. I feel I would be a great nurse and this is really what I want to do in live...my background haunts me!

Nursing and felony? Should I even apply for nursing school?
Hello, I have a felony on my record. Burglary 2nd degree and it is 7 years old. I broke into a house that I thought was abandoned and my friend and I stole some stuff. It was REALLY stupid mistake and we did it mainly for a kick.... second dumb mistake was admitting to the cops that I had used drugs... I didn't get a drug charge but on the police report it says "....she has used marijuana and m....." I had my felony "set aside" because here in AZ there is no such thing as "sealed felony." I also was able to get level one finger print clearance card from the department of public safety. I also had my rights restored. Lastly, I have worked at an elementary school for 4 years (this is after the conviction) and I currently work at a k-12 school with kids that have mental and emotional disabilities (special ed school and self contained school) It is pretty oviouys that I am not a risk to society. I also worked at Pima college as a manager and was in charge of all the banking stuff. I did a 360 and turned my life around. I have great grades, a 5 yo. kid, and am pretty serous about school. I only need one more class, and then I can apply but I am afraid of going through nursing school, PAYING for it, and then being rejected because of my felony. I know that I would have to send the board of nursing a copy of my police report and I feel that if it did not say I was under the influence of drugs, I would have a better chance. Can anyone please share their thoughts or if there is a nurse out there that has gone through this and share their success/failure story it would really help! Does anyone know what the process is like? what will the board of nursing make me do? I read on a different thread that they make you pass a lie detector test?!!! thank you.
