I'm still here in ICU. I'm taking it day by day and soaking in all the learning experiences I can while I am here. When I float to other units I try to picture myself there and see if it is something I would like in the future. I haven't found anything yet, but I am staying positive that I will be able to find my fit and that my ICU experience will pay off. Thanks for all your responses!

I am a recent ADN new grad who was hired onto a CCU almost 6 months ago. I accepted this job although I have NEVER wanted to work in an ICU and it was the only job offer I had at the time. I must say that I have learned and grown a lot as a nurse, but this is not where I want to be. We have a wonderful team and it's nice to see people who love what they do, but I don't share the same feelings and feel overwhelmed many days. So my question is, is this something that I need to just give more time and I may learn to love it just the same as some of the others? Or do I search for something else? Is this just a feeling that many new grads experience and I am just going through a part of growing up as a nurse? Please send any advice my way and let me know if I can answer any questions or provide more info so you can provide better advice if needed. Thanks!

I hear what you are saying...I drive by multiple hospitals and clinics each day and think to myself that there has to be just one little position in all of those places...well, one day there will be and in the meantime I will just keep applying! Thanks for keeping your chin up, your positivity is rubbing off!

It is just so discouraging to see others accept positions and I haven'e even landed an interview! I feel like I am doing something wrong or maybe it's not meant to be and I should seek another career. So upset with the whole situation.

This is the info I have for Brack: ICU on November 6th and 7th. Other Acute Care units on November 12th and 13th IMC on November 15th. Sound about right?

I too am frustrated at what I feel are lies that I have been fed about nursing shortages. I feel as if I am in an even worse position because I was banking on a particular family of hospitals to hire me upon passing the NCLEX and then once they found out that I passed, it was oh sorry, budget cuts and no positions for new grads. Whaaaaatttttt????? All of the time I spent at these facilities and I could have been networking during my clinicals at other facilities? I felt duped. Now I am a new grad ADN with no other medical/nursing experience and no one wants to hire me. Great. 2 years of nursing school and clinicals out the window because I don't have the cherished BSN. I have also picked up a minimum wage job just to make some money and help my family. My spirit is crushed with each rejection email I receive from jobs I apply for and I get increasingly more upset with the organization that I let feed me the "lies". So now what are my options? Each day, throughout the day, I check job boards and hospital sites for new postings to apply to. I can apply to an RN-BSN program, but many of those also want you to be able to have access to patients or at least one year acute experience. Yes, there are some programs that don't have those stipulations and I will apply, but in the meantime, I am still a new grad RN without a job who constantly needs to explain to each and every person who asks me why I am not working- there is NOT a nursing shortage, just picky hospitals... Good luck to my fellow new grads! This cannot go on for long...

Hey Rich- Did you end up starting the position after all?

ktlam- Well...I applied to a lot of ED, but that was before I went to the open house so now I am hoping to be able to withdraw some of my applications and apply to other acute positions. I would love ED, but don't have any ED tech or EMT experience so they pretty much told me that I wasn't going to stand a chance. Oh well, there are other options out there. Seton is definitely THE place to work though, everyone seems to love it. UMCB had the most reps because I remember them saying they had twenty something positions they are looking to fill, hopefully I at least get an interview. Overall, I think there were maybe at most 15 managers or HR reps from the various locations who were available during the 1pm session. There were some other admin/HR people in the brown Seton sweaters who were also available for just basic application questions. How many do you estimate were at your session? I was expecting something A LOT larger and was hoping for something more promising, but it is what it is and I gave it my best shot!

Has anyone been contacted about interviewing for the ED position that was posted a couple of weeks ago?

for those of you who attended the open house this past Tuesday, did the managers tell you a time frame for when they will be interviewing? The ones I met mentioned the week prior to Thanksgiving, but I just want to know if that is the consensus. Best of luck to everyone, the competition seemed pretty fierce during my 1pm session.

Hi there Purkinje! Thanks for the info. It was actually Hays that declined my application. Maybe they already filled the position? or maybe it is because I am an ADN like you mentioned. I know it's a long shot that I will be hired on at Seton, but I figure I won't know for sure unless I try, right? I am putting my best foot forward and will be trying my best to land an interview while at the open house, hopefully the recognize my abilities and I get a call back. Thanks again for the info! If you think of anything else, please feel free to post it! I need all the suggestions I can get! :)

One of my application statuses has been updated to "declined". It was like a shot to my heart. haha. Hopefully the rest don't update to that status anytime soon...at least let me get through the open house before declining me! lol Good luck to all and see you soon!

mine was very similar to what you described. It is hard to tell how I did. It was my first interview so I although I am hoping I did well, I was nervous so it may have been detected in my voice. haha We shall see.... Good luck to all!

Well it sounds like they have given you the upcoming steps and what to expect. Could your references taken longer to complete their part than expected? Hopefully you will receive the next email by the end of the week. I know it can be unsettling to have your application status in suspense like this, but hopefully it will all work itself out sooner rather than later.
