Thanks everyone! I'm starting on this coming Monday doing all the classroom work and going over all the typical new hire paperwork. Just got all moved into my new apartment too so I'm feeling pretty good right now. Starting pay for me is 22.10. I've got 6mos experience in home care and 6mos in endoscopy. Have my associates.

I applied one day thinking nothing would come of it anyway and then they called me and made me look like an ass. Moving really wasn't something I wanted to do, but they offered me a job on their ICU so that was something I couldn't turn down. I already have a job down here but it's outpatient and not really something I want to stay in.

Hi all, I just got a job at Albany med. I live on Long Island now and I'm moving up to albany in a couple weeks. I'm 22 yrs old and I've never lived on my own before and I've never worked in a hospital before so as my days at home are coming to an end, I'm getting really anxious and teary eyed. Everything I know is here and I really don't know anyone in albany. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for my new job in the ICU. I guess I'm just kind of ranting and want some encouraging words. Also, is anyone else starting at Albany med in April?

At my school any student that believes in a religion that requires one to wear a hijab or any type of head covering, they were never asked to take it off, as that would be impinging on your right to follow whatever religion you want. But they did ask students to wear a white hijab to clinical to match the white scrubs required.

How the hell do they get those scrubs on and off?! They look like they'd need to be cut off.

I've always gone with the notion that if a potential employer specifically asks you to bring something to an interview, you should bring it so that you look prepared to them and take you serious as someone worth hiring.

In my state, I was never told not to share my license number. In NY you literally can just do a simple google search and find out someone's license number

Hey all! I'm kind of a new grad. Graduated in May 2012, been working as a home care nurse since March 2013. Recently I saw a job posting on Craigslist for an ambulatory surgery center that's closer to my home. I had never made a portfolio before, but put one together last night because I REALLY would love to get this job. It includes: my cover letter, resume, RN license, diploma, my malpractice insurance certificate, copies of my drivers license, SS card, and BLS card, and four certificates I got from volunteering for different nursing related things. I also made a packet with all of these and my physical and titters for the interviewer to keep. Can anyone offer me any suggestions as to what else I should include? PS I don't have any letters of reference from former professors, but I have a reference sheet with names and phone numbers.

I graduated in May of 2012, took my boards in July. I didn't get a job until March of 2013. The only reason why I got this job is 'cause a family friend of mine owns a home care agency and desperately needed nurses. It depends where you live. Here on Long Island, most of the people I graduated with are either still not employed as an RN or they moved upstate.

Hey all! About a week ago I applied for a Staff RN position with DaVita, I'm a new grad, but the position title said experience required. I have a weird kind of experience with dialysis, my mom was on home hemodialysis and I also got her on the machine and everyhing. Anyways, I got an email the day after I applied from DaVita saying they want to do a phone interview, and it's supposed to be today in a few hours. I'm a bit nervous that they'll be annoyed about my lack of clinical experience with dialysis, but it's not like I had said I had clinical experience with it any where in my cover letter or resume. Any advice?!

I'm sure we all know the job situation in the LI/NYC area is pretty bleak. I've been hearing from a lot of people that they're having to relocate to get a job. I'm definitely not willing to relocate, but I'm definitely willing to commute. Has anyone with a NYS license gotten licenses in other states around here (NJ, MA, PA, etc.)? How much was it to get licenses in these states and how long did it take for these states to issue your license? Also, if anyone has some advice on how to actually get an interview (applied to around 100 positions, haven't gotten a single interview), I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom. And also maybe a little pep talk, getting pretty down :/

I'm not completely sure exactly how many questions I'll have done by tomorrow (Thursday's my test and I'm not even going to look at anything nursing related Wednesday) but it'll be around 4500 questions. My professors told everyone in class before graduation that 100 questions a day, every single day up until the day before your test would be enough to pass. I've used Kaplan, Exam Cram, NCLEX-RN Made Incredibly Easy and ATI. Between these I think I've done around 13 practice tests, most of my scores ranged between the low 60s to low 80s. I guess I'm a little paranoid and I feel like I haven't prepped enough, everyone I know is doing review classes or has a tutor, I opted out of that because I needed surgery and quite frankly, I didn't have the money to spare for a review class

Just took the 180 question practice test on the 2012-2013 Kaplan Strategies book CD, I scored a 72. Has anyone else used this book and its practice tests? I'm wondering if that scores is good enough to pass the NCLEX-RN. Test is in three days and freakin' out a bit.

i called my test center this morning to ask if they've got metal detectors. the woman on the phone giggled and said they haven't got any metal detectors, so i'll be fine. good luck to everyone nervously waiting for their test date, hopefully we'll all do great!

I'm taking my NCLEX-RN on the 26th, and it just struck me that could very well be metal detectors at the test center. I just recently had spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis, and at my post op appointment my surgeon said since I've got a lot of hardware in me, I probably will. Anyone think this will cause me any problems? Should I get a note from my surgeon just in case?
