New Grad needs help!!!
that's thing she was cornered into saying that she would hire me!! she called me yesterday I think about the job but I could not answer (jury duty). She also doesnt have much of a choice but to hire me due to our union contract, I have no write ups in almost 4 years plus the job is now external and automatically mine due to seniority. And her reference is also un needed due to the fact that I came highly recommended by another nurse manager. This nurse manager just so happens to be our departments actual manager because our nm is just acting manager because she doesnt have her BSN.

New Grad needs help!!!
So i have been working as a PCA part time on a MRU in a large hospital in my area for the last almost 4 years. I love taking care of patients and I am very good at what I do. I recently gaduated with my ADN and am looking for employment. However my new nm hates me! Iam not imagining this nor am I the only one who notices. She brings me in the office to reperimand me rather then reward or compliment me regarldess of the fact that on numerous ocassions several nurses have brought to her attention how much of a great worker I am as well as patients and visitors. She never acted remotely intrested in my schooling nor did she congradulate me after graduation until pushed into a corner to do so!! So my question is should I go for a postion on my current unit that is partime 7am-3pm 4 days a week and just deal with my boss(she goes out on mat leave in about 2 weeks for the second time since shes been here) and go against the advise of our nurse recuiter?? Or should I go for one of the ILCU postions either partime or fulltime 7p- 7am???

Help student nurse with first interview on monday
So I currently work as a pca at a local hospital on the rehab floor for that last 3 1/2 years. I have been told by almost every single nurse on my floor that I am the best pca ever. I am told that I am hard working, compassionate, always cheerful and that i learn very quickly(i was also told this by all of my clinical instructors). So needless to say they all say that they will miss me when i leave. so let me cut to the chase my dream job is the nicu then picu then med surg peds. However i also love adults and have been applying for several icu positions in my hospital. I have called the nurse recruiter about a month ago and left a message stating that i am currently employed at this hospital, i graduate on December 15 with my AAS in nursing and would like to touch base with her about what i can be doing right now. So last friday a nurse manger in our hospital from another floor who also works as a nursing supervisor came to my floor and told me she has heard so much good stuff about me. She asked me have i been interviewing and where would i like to work i told her no and the icu. She then told me to email her info so i did this past monday. I got a call for an interview on monday with the nurse recruiter and I'm nervous and excited!!!!! any pointers on how to grab me a gn position??? sorry this was so long

How does this happen???
I'm just a little confused and kinda of angry!! How does this even happen?? I'm a PCA at a local hospital who gradutes for ADN in December. Yesterday at work I had one of the most horrible days ever in my 4 1/2 years of working in the field. I thought the day was going fine moving right along doing my ADLS when the charge nurse comes running in and said I need a STAT finger stick in a room. A go back and the patient who is in his early 70's bka( Rehab floor) is completey diaohoreitc and very VERY lethargic. I get the finger stick its 64 after a juice with sugar in it. I run get more juice hes still not coming around we take vitals bp up to 160/80 from 94/54 a few hrs ago and heart rate 50. They call RRT they say give a amp of d 50 pt comes back around for just long enough to tell us he thinks its a reaction to the pain medication. Turns out his doctor decided to give him a fentanyl IV when he already was on the patch!!!?????? Oh yea did I mention he is a dialysis patient as well?!?? So after 2 doses of narcan and increased confusion, labored breathing, and pulse ox dipping into the mid 70's he is finally transferred to the ICU to receive a narcan drip and further monitoring... How does happen???

Not many Black/African American nurses working in the ICU's
I feel it is regional as well, in the area I reside in there are very few black rns in the units at our hospitals as well as very little that are pursuing a career as an rn to began with. I 've dealt with sterotypes and even blatant racism at the hands of my insturctors during lectures. However I have not and will not let any of this discuroarge me from pursing my dreams. I have maintained a 3.4 or better g.p.a through out the program and clincally I am very confident and absrob any information I receive. I work part time as a pca in the largest hospital in our area for the past 4 years and after i complete my rn this decemeber i will be either working in the NICU or PICU or in general peds. So basically what I am trying to say is we set our own limitations no one else If its your dream go for it!! p.s. I plan on attending an accelerated adn to msn program early next year.
