  1. Hi all! I'll be starting the RN program with you all August 31st! Has anyone NOT bought the pharmacology book yet? Apparently mine was a two-for-one deal and I have two of the exact same pharmacology books. Any takers?
  2. Rockstar lemonade has gotten me through a few 8hr shifts with no breaks in the past. That is only for long days on my feet because I get too jittery if I'm sitting after drinking that. Other than that, just coffee. I've found that gum helps me keep from nodding off while studying if I want an alternative.
  3. I just started my program last Tuesday so I hope i'm studying right! In the past, it helped me to understand the material before class, then the lecture re enforces my understanding, (or corrects it lol). I use my flash card app on my phone for the things I have to memorize (iflashcards), and highlight highlight highlight! My professors give us student learning outcomes on our syllabus so I also make a document with the answers/explanations to the outcomes. Turns out I am making a study guide for the final :). I guess I won't know if i'm studying right until the first test. Good luck to y'all!
  4. Hey everyone! I am going to be starting my lvn program in a few weeks! I'm hearing a lot of things about using flashcards and just wanted to give out a tip. For my physics class last semester I was in dire need of flashcards, however I really don't like how sometimes you have to carry around a huge thick stack of cards with you (as I did in Spanish). I had recently gotten my first smartphone (an Android) and downloaded a flashcard app (iflashcards). I fell in love! it had so many nice features, like you could type the cards on a computer and then send it to your phone, you can share notecards with other people, and it had wonderful review options. Has anyone else used something similar to this? How did you like it? if someone out there has a love-hate relationship with notecards and didn't know about the app I hope this helps!
  5. Hello, I would be up front about everything. Who knows, maybe one day you will want a job there. They may like that your honest, and may still want your help. Try to find out if the hospital wants their volunteers to complete a certain ammount of hours. The hospital I volunteer for requires that volunteers put in 100 hrs within one year, and if you have nothing else to do but volunteer, that can be done within a month or so. That might help you get in as a volunteer and ease the volunteer department about you possibly leaving. Just a suggestion. Good luck in everything and congrats on graduating!
  6. Oh wow this is a tricky one! I am not yet a nurse so I don't know how helpful my advice would be but here it goes: If you have a guaranteed position at your dream job.... then TAKE IT! You said that they put you on a list, so who knows what could happen if/when you apply the second time. I can understand feeling bad about leaving during orientation, however if this is what you really really want, then think of it as opportunity knocking, and who knows if it will knock again. I'm kind of going through the same thing but with schools. My goal is to have my BSN, however the only place that I was accepted into was a LVN program (not complaining!), but I haven't heard back yet from the BSN program that I applied to. So I'm kind of stressing about if I do get into the BSN program. Its my "dream school" however I would feel bad dropping out and taking up a space for someone else in the LVN program. Good luck in whatever you decide! How exciting that you are starting your career :).
  7. What is your goal, and how soon do you want to be working? If your goal is to get your bsn, then go for it. If you want to start at lvn and move up, then start there. once you have your goals in order, you can choose the best route for yourself :)
  8. I was luckily able to find my shot records as well. However, when I was very young we were low income so I got some of my shots at a low income clinic that is not there anymore and for some reason the hospital I go to didn't have those shot records on their records. Long story short, I had to get a bunch of titers done and I find out on Monday if they are all in the clear or not. I am NOT looking forward to getting more needles poked in me. My program requires that you have a 2 step TB test no later then 3 months before the program starts. I had to get a 2 step in order to volunteer at a hospital, and I just so happened to get it done 4 months before the start of the program... so I have to re-do my 2 step . Good luck to everyone out there!
