New nurse on unit
Hi, I’ve been a nurse for 3 years. I started at the hospital I did my clinicals at and did a residency program for 3 months. I started on nights so I could learn and after 3 years, I felt completely burnt out from bedside, going through 6-8 pts a night, and bad leadership. I recently started a new position on a step down unit at a different hospital. While I find myself less stressed, I am finding myself very depressed. I miss the commaderie I had with the other nurses I worked with. I miss being able to ask for help from anyone. On this new unit, I feel more on my own, not knowing who to ask for help. I only got 3 weeks of training and feel uneasy working on my own. I find myself sometimes tearing up at work. I’m doing the best I can but find it hard to cope with the change. I wanted to do step down to get the experience and eventually decide what I want to do next. Thats my biggest issue in nursing. I love what I do but I also dont know where to go next or what area of nursing I’d love to work in. After 6 months I can transfer, but its hard to think about what the next step would be.

I know my username is different but this is the same person who posted above. I forgot my password for the other account so I made a new one....anyways, for example, I know I got a communication one wrong ......I know I'm just torturing myself at this point..... I tested on Friday so Pearson will probably have my result posted by Monday.

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. If you look on page 20, I covered what could possibly be asked in the interview. Best of luck!

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
Don't be nervous! Just be yourselves. The questions are pretty simple. It will be a group interview, answer a question while discussing your thought process with another person in your group, why you want to be a nurse, role of a nurse, etc. Best of luck!!!

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
@gianfranco...there are no leftovers with Nova. It's simply you were admitted or you weren't. Typically a few days or a week after your interview, you should know if you got accepted. They won't just accept you based on your prereqs. You must go through the interview and exam first. For the day of your interview, you will be there the whole day. It will either start with a tour or the exam. You will take your exam, go to lunch for an hour and they will you for interview. Your interview will be in a group with 3-5 people on the panel. You will be asked to work with someone to answer the question and give your own input as well. It's not bad. Mainly why you want to be nurse, what that entails, etc. For the test, I can't really tell you to study one specific thing because it covers everything. For math, it's mainly decimals and fractions. For reading, it's pretty straightforward. Science is where it gets really difficult. It's all anatomy and physiology and it's tough to tell you one area to study because I truly felt like I was guessing or going with the best response. It's not a pass or fail exam. It's simply to see where you are.

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
I wasn't that clear in my last post but as long as your courses are in progress and will be completed before the start of Nursing School, it is fine. Not everyone gets an interview so meeting their requirements is a must in terms of coursework. After you submit your application, it shouldn't be too long from when you receive the email of the interview. It should be 1-2 weeks and they usually take place on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the morning.

Entry Level BSN Course Requirements | Nova Southeastern University Nursing Here is the link to what you must have in order for your application to be considered. If you don't have exactly what they require for coursework, you will be denied because you can't take any pre reqs with your Nursing courses. You may be able to take a few final pre reqs the summer before you start but I'm not 100% sure about that. If you click on Admissions requirements, there will be more information there too.

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
100-120 applicants sounds about right. Regardless, I'm pretty sure there are 40 scholarships as I've heard that number twice from Baptist and Nova personnel. We should know pretty soon about the scholarship.

In regards to the Baptist Program, I'm not sure about the pay on the job part. I do know someone who went through the program and loved Nova. She is now working in the ICU at Baptist. I do know that the last semester is spent with a preceptor and you do get paid for that. The job opportunity will vary by location for sure though. If you want the ICU but only South Miami offers the ICU opening and Kendall location doesn't, than you would apply to the South Miami location if you really want that position. I've heard about the paying tuition back. Not too sure about it though. I think that would be a question for orientation day if given the scholarship.

They've probably accepted students for the scholarships already has they have all your paperwork when you sit for the interview. They are still interviewing I believe but June 15th is the deadline so I guess anytime after that we should find out. I interviewed in May though.

Hello everyone! I've been accepted to the Miami Campus. Waiting to see if I got the Baptist Scholarship but for sure going to Nova. I wanted to know how I can order my scrubs or do I have to wait until orientation?

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
@gui0312- Yes. They use to accept 30 as far I know but I think that since they lose students after the first semester because of the Anatomy and Physiology classes, they decided to accept 40 knowing they wouldn't have those same 40 in the end. Just what I'm thinking. I applied and had my interview in May. They should be just about done interviewing because the deadline is June 15th. @VCmiami- I posted about the exam in prior post and in regard to the interview as well. Don't be nervous. Be confident. The interview really isn't as bad. Why do you want to be a nurse? Qualities of a nurse etc. and some situational questions where you discuss the answer with someone else and present it. It is a group interview. For me I had test, break, interview then tour. It can go the opposite way as well. Just depends. Overall, the most important thing is your confidence.

@saramamelia- Apply ASAP. Don't worry about your credentials. You'll get an interview as long as you have the prequsistes and your application is complete. The sooner you apply, the better because as soon as they fill up their spots, that's it. I'm not sure when the application deadline is though. NOVA looks at the whole picture plus the interview. For Nova, the Kaplan is a bit tough in the Science portion but the test is not a pass or fail or necessary score. You simply take it so they can see where you are. Also, there a 5 minute essay portion at the end of the interview. No big deal. Give it your best shot. I definitely encourage you to apply if there is still time. At least give yourself a chance.

Don't worry about the test as much, brittneyb. It isn't a pass or fail thing as mentioned above. Yes, the Science is difficult and I'm not there is an exact way to prepare for it but just do your best. If you know it, you know it. If you don't, it's okay. Just give it your best shot. For the Math, I suggest concentration on fractions to decimals, decimals to percents and vice versa. Reading is easy, just do it carefully in order to get best score possible. The interview is truly just for them to get to know you. They'll ask you questions as to why you want to be a nurse, what would you in a certain situation, what is the role of a nurse. Just 3-4 questions and then the essay portion. For me, my topic was how do you set priorities, and you have 5 minutes to put down the best answer you have in essay form. That's it. Nothing too intense. Just be confident and be yourself. Don't try or force anything. It will be a group interview and you will be working with someone to answer a couple of questions. It's best to get to know the people you will be with before the interview so everyone is comfortable. We were all friends by the end of the day.

I had an issue getting into Sharklink at the beginning but after countless efforts finally got in at one point. For the background check, it's separate from Sharklink. From your acceptance email, follow that link and you have to create an account with Certified Profile. As for Sharklink, go to forgot your password and it will come up and just send yourself the email. Also, do a Find my Pin and it will give it to you. Make sure you are putting in the right numbers and letters. That was my issue.

Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2014
@gui0312- If you leave her a message, it should be okay. She does checked them I've never been able to answer a call from her because I usually have the line full but I do leave voicemails. You should receive your package in a about a week hopefully. If not, call Nova and ask. She never called me back but every time I call her, it goes straight to voicemail. Doesn't hurt to keep trying though.

An email took about a week and the package took a good while because they hadn't sent it out yet. They've sent it out now so hopefully you get it in the next week or so. I never got a phone call from Andrea because of a minor issue that I had to solve but I did get email.

MDC Fall 2014
Yeah. It's definitely a much tougher exam than the TEAS. Plus, we have to wait 6 months in between to retake it. I've always heard MDC's Nursing school is super competitive so we'll see. Can't wait until we get notified but I'm nervous too. We should definitely get priority since we passed lol

MDC Fall 2014
That seems really unfair to me. I guess the exam was super hard but they should admit those who did pass first. You can't make the exam a requirement if you're going to allow those who don't pass, apply. Anyways, I hope that we all get in! I'm really liking the MDC Medical Campus so far but I have other schools I applied to so we'll see.

Please keep us posted. I didn't think I did well either but I got in….Don't sweat the test guys. At this point, you know it or you don't when it comes to Anatomy and Physiology. Study more for the Reading and/or Math and give it your best effort on the Science. For the interview, just be confident in yourself. They need to see that. You don't want a nurse who isn't confident. Other than that, acceptance packages have been mailed out and Nova has been sending out some phone calls. When you go online, you can register for registration and also look your at background check and to do list with the immunizations and what not. For those of you going to the Miami Campus, I look forward to meeting you!

MDC Fall 2014
sorry I couldn't get back sooner…..wow…that exam was a killer. Very tough. I would say tougher than the TEAS. I passed but I really can't say how and wasn't expecting it. There is no calculator for the math section. Focus on percentages and the different type of questions that can be asked with it. Other than that, basic algebra and computations other than couple of geometry problems. Also, use the answers to guid you. That's what I did since I was pressed on time and it worked out. Passed Math with a 52%. Science was the most difficult. A bunch of physics questions when last time I checked, physics wasn't required for nursing so I guessed a lot. Also, took some good guesses. Not a lot of anatomy or physiology on my exam. Basic Biology and scientific interpretation as well as some physical science. Reading was a bit difficult but that's my strongest area. As far as the reading passages go, it's easy. The tougher part is the vocabulary. I didn't know a lot of the words and since they use synonyms as answered, if I didn't know what the choices meant, I was stuck. I just took the best guess I could considering the options. Overall, a pretty tough test for me. On Science, I got a 60% and on Reading I got a 75%. Overall score is a 117. Manage your time. I only studied for two days so I was really nervous. Just give it your best shot.

MDC Fall 2014
Yeah. I really want to start in Fall so I pass, great, if I don't then it just won't be on my list of schools. I definitely dislike having to wait 6 months to take a test again. The 30 days with the TEAS was fine but they changed the exam.
