UTHSC-H Fall 2013 Hopefuls
I guess there are 2 threads for uthsch-h for fall 2013, lol! If you're comfortable with grammar, reading and math for the TEAS,you'll be fine for the HESI. However, know conversion factors, they don't give you those. And you only need to concentrate on A&P for science. There might have been a couple basic questions on chemistry and cell organelles (can't recall). Vocab is a hit and miss, just study the HESI vocab section. Can't give you anything on critical thinking since I signed up through baylor and it wasn't required - it didn't even show up as an option. I'll have to retake the whole thing.

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
Thanks! I think I finally recovered lol. If I have to retake it, then I have to retake it. I think I'll wait until maybe October/November. By then I can study and give it my full, instead of half-a** it like the first attempt. Scheduling back to back tests was not a good idea lol but I'll be ok :)

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
According to who I spoke to on the phone at evolve, I didn't have to take the other portions again. I just don't know if I sign up for version 1 or version 2. Why couldn't all the sections be on there and you take what you need? I'll have to pay $90 to take a section that's going to take, what 30 min??? Oh and then I checked again, my score is 86.9, which is weird... When I clicked out of the test my score was 84.6, check at home it was an 89, last few times I checked it was an 86. I know I'm not imagining things, so I don't know what's going on with the system. Honestly, if I can get a really good CT score, then I won't worry with my 86%. I know I COULD do better taking it more serious/more focused, but dang it, I dont want to lol. We'll see. They let you take up to 2 times.

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
Took the HESI today and over all I got an 89%. In all honesty, right when I began the test, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I think I was still drained from yesterday's TEAS. I spent 3 hours taking the TEAS, I took 2 hours for the HESI. I didnt give it my all but I'm pretty happy with A&P score. I haven't taken anatomy yet so I was surprised (at my school they dont combine A&P as a class). The kicker though - I signed up through Baylor, thinking I was still interested at the time to apply there, changed my mind but kept the test, since I can just transfer scores. Well, Baylor doesn't require CT and it wasn't even listed, so now I have to go back, pay the fee and take the CT section. I was worried if I had to reschedule I would have to take the whole test but I called evolve, and they said it wasn't necessary. I'll actually go trough the uthsc and sign up through them.

Your HESI review book is a good resource too!

I also used the McGraw hill book as a reference - you'll need it, go beyond the ATI book for science. But I didn't do any of their practice tests, maybe I should have? Lol. If the package includes the 2 online tests and the book go for it. I paid everything separately, didn't think I would use the online test and I'm sure if I bought the package I could of saved money. I bought the McGraw hill book and HESI review book on my iPad kindle to save some money!

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
Just remembered something else for science - know what parts of the brain are responsible for what function as well as nerves. I don't know if these were their test questions, but definitely not covered in the book!

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
That is definitely good to know! I'm excited to finally relax after all this! :) and don't worry, the math questions are definitely do-able! The longest math questions you'll have is where it gives you checking account balance and you need to find the final balance after all the withdrawals, and credits - addition and subtraction. Even the algebra was pretty easy, imo. The ATI is a great review for all those concepts! Just make sure you can find percents, divide/multiple fractions and decimals and you'll be fine :)

Thanks! I was bummed, but I'm happy overall. Yes, it's the same username and password for when you log in to register, and purchase stuff. I don't feel like I over studied. Go through the ATI book page by page for the grammar and reading. Reading isn't too bad: main idea, logical conclusions, style of writing, author's purpose, etc. For grammar just make sure you're comfortable with the rules: simple sentences, dependent/independent clauses, spelling (only got 2 questions "which word is spelled correctly"), when to use colons, semicolons, apostrophes. Math isnt too bad, I actually skipped a chuck of it from the book and just reviewed concepts I knew I needed refreshing. There are no calculators so be comfortable doing calculations on paper. Science isn't fun, not gonna lie, just don't memorize but understand the concepts. Like why is a molecule polar/non polar. I didn't get any balancing equations, unfortunately - that I can do, lol, know the germ layers, that isn't covered in the ATI book, it does ask some questions that even though it's reviewed in study manual, it asks a more specific question. Also know kinetic/potential energy - concepts, no math. Personally I didn't get asked many physiology question, mostly chemistry, life and physical science, and what makes a good/bad experiment. It even asked about moles - just a very basic question, theres too much math without a calculator for a more complex question. I'm personally more comfortable with physiology type questions, unfortunately I didn't get any. Good luck! I recommend doing an online practice first, that way you know what you really need to focus on.

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
So.....I took my TEAS exam (those reading this HESI is required for UTHSC-Houston). Definitely do both online practice exams to get a feel for what the test is like. The online practice tests were a lot harder but the science seemed to be on spot. Also, get the ATI book - reading, math, and grammar were pretty identical. The science is what the majority scores the lowest on. Honestly, science is pretty random, questions can be broad or pretty specific. I scored an 80.7%. I'm not especially proud of this score but the national mean is somewhere around 64% and I've heard programs means can be around 70%. Science lowered my score significantly. I don't think ill take it again though, there was someone who was on her 3rd attempt. Dont forget your ATI username and password, the girl next to me couldn't log in for a good 15 min. Hope this helps!! My testing site was very casual, the proctor was super nice, she even brought ear plugs for those who wanted to use them. You can take breaks between each section, so that nice.

Most efficient way to study for TEAS/one main thing to do?!
Focus on science. Do both online practices to get a feel for it. The online practices are much harder than the actual exam, but the science hit the spot. Honestly, my science was different than the previous posters link. I felt like the science questions were pretty random. Start studying early and just get very comfortable and familiar with the science concepts. I used multiple books to study and I also went on YouTube, watching videos helped me too. Good luck!

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
Thanks! I started studying in early July but because of chemistry I wasn't as consistent as I wanted to be. My final was on Aug. 9 so I've been hitting it hard since then. I'll let you know if it paid off!

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
Yup, go to the ATI website and sign up through there. Ill definitely let you know what to expect! I took chemistry this summer and that was awful! That class had all sorts of issues (like the dean and board of trustees had to get involved - long story, lol). So glad micro is over, unfortunately I still have the lab! It was hard to get the lab last semester because I'm considered a non degree seeking student and I sign up for classes last. I actually already hold my B.S but now I'm back to take the pre-reqs.

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
I'm in San Antonio, so when I signed up there were only two locations (not as easy as when we signed up for the HESI, where you can pick any time and day through prometric). Baptist which is not a BSN program offers the test only to their students, so my only choice was to take it at Wayland Baptist. When I signed up back in June there weren't many dates listed, so I choose the date that was the closest before the fall semester began. Are you finished with your science pre-reqs? Fall semester I'm taking anatomy w/the lab, and labs for physiology and micro (they were full last semester). Hopefully I can keep that 4.0 gpa science pre-req! I'm glad there's a forum for the fall 2013 hopefuls!

UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013
I'm also applying for Fall 2013. Other than Houston, I'm applying to UTMB, Tyler, and A&M. I'll let you know how the TEAS goes! I'm hoping to get everything in early, as soon as they open their applications. Such a long process lol. My first choice is Houston or UTMB.
