  1. Hi Melissa! I'm Devon, congrats on finally getting orders! Better late than never I guess right?? Lol, it's going to be okay, if your worried about not being prepared by Saturday I would say don't stress out too much, even though you just got orders, we're all pretty much in the same boat. I feel like even though I've had my orders for over a month I'm still scrambling around trying to figure what I need to do and what to bring and everything! Just take a deep breath, enjoy your last few nights home, bring everything on the ODS checklist and it will be fine! :) I think it's a great idea for us all to meet up on Saturday! My number is 201 919 3998, feel free to text or call me as well. Can't wait to meet everyone!
  2. Thanks Elise!!! I am from Morris county nj have you ever been? Im about an hour from NYC. I think the app is called US Navy, if you type navy into the search box I think it's the first one to pop up!! Thanks for all of the extra info. That is really helpful! Alex, I feel exactly the same way you do right now, what's worse is I woke up with a terrible cold yesterday and have no energy to get anything done! Couldn't have had worst timing to get sick! Are you Going up on Sat or Sun?? We should all try and meet up!
  3. Oh also! Is everyone going to check in Sunday? Anyone checking in on Saturday? Does it matter?
  4. Hey Elise! Nice I am from NJ but have never actually been to Philly- I hear it's awesome! Can't believe we have less than one week! Talk about crunch time. I actually found this really good app for the Navy it has the hymns and ranks and sailors creed as well as a whole list of "navy speak" it's really helpful! My dad is going to help me work on drills this week too. What exactly are you packing?? I feel like I don't have that much other than running shoes, white shirts, sports bras and personal toilettries since we will be purchasing our pt gear and uniforms when we get up there. But I'm not sure if I should still bring some of my own shorts or tees for sleeping or to wear underneath our gear if it's cold out! I always tend to overpack whenever I travel though so who knows! Lol.
  5. Ah Alex I feel the SAME way trust me your not alone! The closer we get the more anxious and nervous I get. Ive been workin out everyday- running, sit ups and pushups and working on my swimming a little. I just started going over all the stuff we need to have memorized- ranks and hymns n whatnot. I got my sponsor last week and have been tryin to get my HHG set up but can't seem to navigate the website. Aside from all that, I have no idea what else we should be doing!!! Lol. I def don't want to get to ODS and be that person who isn't prepared tho! So if anyone else has suggestions on how else to prepare I would appreciate it:) are you guys packing an actual suitcase or just bringing a duffle bag? I feel like I don't have that much to pack since I'll be buying all my uniforms and PT gear when I get up there. Oh and also, when do we start getting tricare? Is that when we report to ODS as well?
  6. Elise, I went to the university of Arizona college of nursing! How about you??
  7. Hey guys! September is coming way faster than I could have imagined EEK! Getting excited/ anxious and nervous at the same time. I am worried I'm not doing everything I should before reporting to Newport, I feel like the Navy is so vague about what we need to get done or have before we go! Ive been workin out and going over ranks and hymms and whatnot, but Im a little in the dark about other paperwork or things we might need to complete before we go! Does anyone else feel the same way??
  8. Alex- thanks for the reassurance!! That's what I love and am looking forward to about being in the Navy is that everyone is so close and supportive! San Diego was my first choice,Bethesda was 2nd, then Portsmouth. Originally I was supposed to go to Bethesda until a few weeks ago my orders changed! I never even heard of 29 palms! Lol but I am excited I know it's going to be a great experience regardless of where I am! Navyrn, what's ur name? Glad we are all going to ODS together!!
  9. Hi Alex! I'm Devon, also going to ODS in sept! Congrats on camp Lejune! I got 29 palms, california. Definitely shocked me at first, pretty sure I went through the 4 stages of grief, finally starting to accept it haha. Gomez said I am the only NCP grad stationed out there which makes me even more nervous!
  10. Hi Bloom11. Thanks for the reply! You said you've been to the hospital there before, how are the facilities? I'm hoping the hospital itself isn't as outdated as the rest of the town ha. I hear it's where all the marines go to train before they deploy to the middle east and I've been told I'll probably see a good amount of trauma or accidents from training which would be good. I literally was miserable when I found out I got stationed there, but I'm trying SUPER hard to stay positive! Im glad i will be able to help care for all the marines out there in the desert. I'm mainly just concerned about safety- hear there is a lot of crime in the area and break ins! I'm just so confused as to why My detailer made the switch because I was under the impression it will end up costing the Navy more to send me out there and what not in the end.
  11. Hi! I'm also going to ODS on September 9th! My first orders are to Naval Hospital 29 Palms, CA. I'm sorta bummed because when I first spoke with Gomez after graduation he told me I was going to Bethesda which I was stoked about because I'm from NJ so that is nice and close to home! I was also anticipating being at a bigger teaching hospital. But last week he called me and said the navy needs me out in 29 palms- its a very small hospital, only 22 beds! And it's in the middle of nowhere in the desert. Does anyone on this forum have any advice about this duty station?! Im so nervous to move out there alone! What I've been reading so far on the Internet about 29P has not been too helpful! Would really appreciate it:)
