  1. Seeing this post makes me feel a little better with my experience at Kaiser Downey Ca. I had similar experiences where I started in one area but by the end of my shift I floated twice. It was horrible. I got in trouble for chewing gum & also for having my cell phone sitting out at my charting station. I could go on and on with bad experiences there. I was was just offered a job at Kaiser Santa Clara and wondered if all kaisers were similar in their treatment of travelers. Unfortunately Santa Clara sounds like it. Would you mind telling me your hourly pay at kaiser Santa Clara?
  2. I worked with AMN on 2 different assignments and would not recommend them to anyone. As others said, be sure you read over your contract carefully- what they stated the hourly pay would be did not match my contract so they had to redo it. They pay less than other companies- I found that out the unfortunate way by asking other travelers where I was how much they were making. Lastly, from my experience, they aren't honest. AMN offered me a job at a location where the hospital was offering a completetion bonus which I was aware from the 3 other companies I'm in contact with. AMN called and offered me the same job but did NOT tell me about the bonus and the offered hourly pay was less than what their website posted. Overall, your a number and they just want to make money off of you.
  3. There are several different companies posting openings for Duke: American Mobile, Cross Country Travel Corps, and also Cirrus. I have also been looking for a travel position here off and on for approx a year and this is the first time i've seen one. I spoke with a staff member at Duke who said they rarely ever use travelers, haven't for years. It sounded like the upcoming winter season, holidays, and unfilled nursing staff positions were the reasons they need travelers. I was also told it was likely there would be no need for renewal after my initial 13 week contract. So, if you're interested in working there i would contact the companies ASAP for a possible contract.
  4. Hey all! Is anyone else headed to Durham for a contract? I start an assignment at Duke University Hospital and I am looking for any advice on places to live. I've never been to NC so all my references/advice so far have come from google. Any suggestions will be MUCH appreciated!
  5. Hey guys-- I am looking to start a travel assignment in the San Jose area and am wondering if this pay package a recruiter offered me sounds reasonable for the area for an PICU. This is how she worded it: $22.50/3500/500. I assume the $500 is travel compensation? $22.50 sounds ridiculously low but maybe the housing stipend compensates for it? Also, I have never worked a holiday as a traveler, what is the pay for a traveler working holidays? Do you ask the recruiter to add "holiday pay" to your contract? Thanks for any advice
  6. HRN has contracts in NorCal
  7. What travel company are you with that has EPIC assignments? I have done one EPIC conversion and would like to do more but the companies i am with dont seem to have any coming up.
  8. I am licensed in NC but have only done contracts in CA. I would love to do NC or SC, but there doesnt seem to be a lot of options out that way. A company I am signed up with mentioned they may need nurses for EMR training in NC so i'm hoping that comes through. Have you found another assignment yet?
  9. I have had the same concerns and questions about a union as well. I worked in OK for 2 years before deciding to travel. Majority of the hospitals i worked in have been unionized and would never get away with the madness my old job did to their RN's. I love OK but i would not be satisfied coming back to work there without changes. I wondered how nurses would react to forming a union or what, if any, other options there would be.
  10. I'm sure many nurses have had the same experience as myself. I worked as an RN in Oklahoma for a couple years before I started traveling (to CA only). During my time as a nurse in OK i had many poor experiences and left my job extremely unhappy. The way my coworkers were treated and the things we had to put up with were absurd and now having experienced many different unionized hospitals in CA only magnifies my previous beliefs. I love Oklahoma but i dont think i could come back to the state as a nurse and be proud and satisfied in the workplace. My question is, how does a state even begin the process of getting a union? Is it hospital workers who come together and decide to unionize or is it state wide? Would Oklahoma nurses come together for a union, not for political power or the nonsense that is often associated with unions. Rather, for better treatment, mandatory breaks, nurse-patient rations, and better pay. Oklahoma nurses deserve those, at least, and from my experience, its not happening. I would love feedback- thanks.
  11. @bluntforcetrauma- do you know what companies hire for transitions like Epic go live? I am currently working for a hospital that is going live with Epic this week, but I was hired as a regular travel RN because the hospital wants to staff heavy during the transition.
  12. So far, yes. This is my first time using them and it they've been pretty good. I have also been with HRN, and had a good experience with them as well.
  13. I am using american mobile. but cross country also has travelers out here.
  14. I just started here Jan 9th. It has been pretty chaotic since LLUMC hardly uses travelers. I have only worked on the unit twice (first day off orientation begins tomorrow) and so far everyone has been nice and helpful. The Loma Linda area is, ugh, well not what I, nor alot of other travelers expected. SMaller town, some shady areas...but like I said i havent been here quite long enough for a real feel. The company I a with put travelers in 2 different apartment complexes and mine is wonderful. Its not even a 10 min drive to work, beautiful and safe area.
  15. I am a PICU RN and i will be going to Loma Linda Children's hospital for an 11 week travel assignment. Does anyone have experience at the facility or advice for the area? Any would be greatly appreciated!
