  1. hey there!!! i am also a new nurse and started my first job in a fam practice a few weeks ago. the most important thing (to them) is SPEED!!! i am forever being told i am too slow and doctors walk in on me or complain about me to my team lead. I feel as though I am doing ok but oh well I feel like interacting with the patient is a huge part of nursing and i hardly have time to be civil to them. make sure u know what your getting into. you can give them a trial as much as they can give u one. good luck!!!
  2. Well there will be issues at any school but ECPI was the worst. I didn't have to transfer credits to get in but alot of people in my class had trouble and their credits won't transfer to other schools. For example if you wanted to become an RN later you would have to start at the beginning. They won't even transfer their own credits! They will basically tell you anything to get you into the school... their admissions people get based on the numbers. They are increadibly unorganized and have been kicked out of all hospital clinical locations to where the maternity clinicals in the classroom! Thery are not accredited and have a reputation in the central VA area where if you interviewed for a job and someone from J. Sargeant Reynolds or another school was up for the same job they would take the other person just based on where you wen't to school. It's also over 30K for their program. An LPN starts out at about $14.00 - $18.00 an hour here soooo you wouldn't want to have to pay back that loan on an LPN salary. When I transfered to Reynolds I had to start all over. I started with pre-reqs and it took me 2 years but I got good grades, got accepted into the program the first time I applied, passed my NCLEX and am now looking for my first job. I have interviewed for a very good position at Bon Secours and feel pretty confident I got the job :) I wouldn't waste your money at MCI. Let me know if you have any more questions.
  3. Hey I have been to the one in Richmond. I didn't graduate from the program I ended up finishing at a community college but I can probably answere questions.
  4. I passed last month and myself and everyone I have talked to about it says that you will think you failed. I had over 200 questions and was unsure about almost all of them. Just do your best. To have graduated an LPN program at 18 is already a huge accomplishment!!! It takes a special person to be disciplined and motivated enough to pass nursing school at your age. I definately couldn't have done it. The youngest person in my class was 21 and the oldest was 60!!! Just take the advise above and review disease processes. I had alot of questions on diseases I had never heard of. I also had alot of dosage calc but it was very basic and those were the questions I actually felt confident that I got right. Even a month later I am still amazed I passed LOL. Good luck with the test AND looking for a job. I know you will do well :)
  5. congrats!!! i will graduate in 3 1/2 weeks!!!! i really enjoyed my leadership class it was one of my favorites... im about to start psych :)
  6. Hey all!!! I will be graduating in about 4 weeks (YAY!!!!!) and I need some advice. First I wondered when should I start looking for jobs? Is it too early? Do I need to wait till I pass my boards? There is a rumor in my class that some places will hire you to work up to 60 days prior to taking boards. Is this true? Also, I'm wondering about LPN to RN transition programs. I am currently in a program at a community college, I also work at the college part-time and they pay 6 credits a semester. They have also just started a part-time program which would allow me to work while getting my RN. I am just so stressed and over school right now I just don't know if I have it in me!!! Maybe in a few weeks I'll change my mind but right now I have three 10 hour clinical days in a row ahead of me and 2 of those are med surg :/ Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like my brain is fried (last semester-itis) so wanted to get some feedback before making any decisions.
